The big day has arrived! Once a year, Maurice's town hosts a huge bicycle race. With his old bike and lucky helmet, Maurice is determined to win this year's gold cup.
Storytime audience can easily participate as the bike race crowd chants “go go go.” However, I would only consider using this with older readers because Stinky is really rude with his comments to Maurice, the protagonist.
This is a cute story on perserverance. It would not be a good storytime read because the pictures are very busy. I had to keep turning back pages to see how and where Maurice had picked up another "rider." (Loved the turtle, of course!) All of the action can be great for a child who is reading the book on their own and has time to look at everything occurring on each page. There was only one thing that was a bit odd for me. I know it was the illustration style, using bits of paper and wrappings and bottle caps and such for more texture. However, it looked really odd to me and once in a while was distracting to me.
This is another lovely racing book about perseverance. We had fun cheering with the crowd, "Go-go-go!" I could see it used in a storytime. Unfortunately, Stinky is NOT very nice, but that made it a lot of fun creating and doing his voice.
