Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
“Contemplation is the work for which we were made and everything was made for us to help and further us in it, and by it we shall once more be restored”
“By grace he kindled your desire, and fastened it to a leash of longing, and led you by it into a more special state and form of life….It seems that, in the heart’s love he has had for you since you began to exist, he would not give you up so easily”
“He is quite ready, and is only waiting for you.”
“There has never been and never shall be any living creature, however pure, raised to whatever height of ecstasy in contemplation and love of the Godhead, who does not always have a high and wonderful cloud of unknowing between him and his God”
Overall, I get the hype. For a short work, the Cloud of Unknowing is very helpful and descriptive of the kind of apophatic mysticism you can find in western Christianity. Especially as a Catholic, I really loved this and will be returning to it regularly.
