About the author

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish writer and physician. He created the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 for A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and fifty-six short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are milestones in the field of crime fiction.

Doyle was a prolific writer. In addition to the Holmes stories, his works include fantasy and science fiction stories about Professor Challenger, and humorous stories about the Napoleonic soldier Brigadier Gerard, as well as plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, and historical novels. One of Doyle's early short stories, "J. Habakuk Jephson's Statement" (1884), helped to popularise the mystery of the brigantine Mary Celeste, found drifting at sea with no crew member aboard.

I not fully satisfied with every story, but the writtings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle are mostly very good. Fortunatelly, the Hungarian translations add a lot to the book, and not ruined the value of enjoyment.

Sherlock Holmes is a very unique person. I loved to the stories, but his arrogant attitude was a quite disturbing. In many cases, Watson, his loyal ally was only an asset, not a friend. Sherlock likes to notice every small mistakes of his loyal doctor, and "writter" of his stories.

As I said before, I wasn't satisfied with every story. Sometimes we get only brief details, not the whole picture. The stories mostly about from dialogues. We informed the environment and the bigger thing from the talks of Sherlock.

But... Sherlock Holmes stories are immortale. We always know who was this fictional private detective. And it is sad there no more Sherlock Holmes story from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Úristen, vége!

Kérdés: Ennyi volt az összes Doyle által írt Holmes történet? Néhány híresebb mellékszereplőt keveselltem, a kronológia hiánya komikus volt. Viszont oda-vissza imádtam!
A sátán kutyáját régóta meg szerettem volna ismerni eredetiben, nem is csalódtam – épp annyira ijesztő volt, amennyire vártam. A meghajlás picit kiábrándító volt ugyan, de az esetnapló és a Félelem völgye nagyon bejött. Azt hiszem, képtelen vagyok választani, hogy a regények vagy a novellák a jobbak.

(Kiábrándítónak csupán Mycroft eredeti kinézetét tartom, de erről Gatiss tehet – túlságosan megszoktam már…)

Ajánlás: bárkinek. Ha nekem tetszett, aki nem szereti a krimit, akkor akárki számára élvezhető!
