I'm contemplating on how to rate this *sigh*. On one hand, I don't hate it. On the other hand, I don't love it either. I remember I liked Blood of a Leo enough when I first read it, thus wanting to read the sequel. Now I have a different perception on what I want from shifters book. I re-read that book and dropped my rating.

In this one, I think I like the "idea" that as a shifter, Jace doesn't come as the dominant (or possessive) all the time. In fact, Link (the human) pretty much handles him just fine -- even if in the end, Jace must tops Link in his man-cat form to claim the bond. I enjoy some of Jace's quips and when he is in heat, it's kind of cute.

But that's about it. I feel indifferent with the characters, I can't develop any sense that I care about what happen and will happen to the two of them. Maybe I'm not in the mood; the writing makes me feel uncomfortable reading it, it doesn't move as smoothly. Plus, now, I'm not very "open" to accepting the sex scene of a man-animal form (I just feel weird).

Oh, well, I'll just give the so-so 3 stars then. I think that's the fair rate.

As much as I liked the first one, this one was a Big disappointment. IMO, sorry.
Jace deserved someone way better. I didn't care for Link at all.
There were times I wanted to stop but because I liked the first one so much, I stuck with it hoping it would get better, it did some what, (that's why it's not a one).
Their relationship got better I guess, that must be way so many gave it high rating.

Now that my rant is over, I need to stop now cause re-thinking this I want to drop it to 1.
For me I just couldn't let go that he wasn't sorry, or do any thing to help fight them, but then they haven't done anything yet to help the ones being held. Maybe they will in the next one.

I had the pleasure of reading the first book in this series, Blood of a Leo, and I absolutely LOVED it! The Link That Binds is just as good as the first book, and I loved this story just as much. I really enjoyed the suspense of finding out if Link was or wasn’t a true bad guy, and the fact that he had flaws made the story really captivating. The relationship dynamics between Link and Jace are opposite what you would think initially because in most shifter stories it is the shifter who is the big strong alpha male, but in this case it is the human. This made for a very pleasant change of venue in this story. I also liked the addition of Link’s secret and how that played into the story. Add the fact that the sex is uber hot, and you have a winner of a story in my opinion! Ultimately, this story has everything that makes a story truly excellent, true love, uber hot sex, action, drama, and a very emotional love story. If I could give this story a higher rating than 5 cups I would do so without hesitation! If you are into the paranormal, and love stories about shifters, vampires and other paranormals and how they mix with the human world, you do not want to miss this truly spectacular story, or the series for that matter! I for one cannot wait for the next book in this series, all I can say is, Ms. Hawkes, bring it on, and soon please!

I liked the first one better, for some reason.

Jace and Link were hot, but I liked the tension in the beginning. I wanted more of that. Instead it was as if once the word "mate" was used all the anger left the building. Really? Jace can get over what Link did him AND Leo that fast? What happened to hard ass Link? He turned into mush.

Then what about

Oh and Link's big secret. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! How can you keep something like that? Ugh. I was not happy with Link at all in this entire book--then he had the nerve to

Overall, never warmed up to asshole Link. Not sure if I will be moving onto the 3rd book until more are written. I just flew through these 2 today, so I know I will be an unhappy reader if I continue knowing I have to wait for more.

It's good as a continuation of the series, but will anyone do anything about Casey and Zane, Zeke and others? Or are they going to suffer throughtout all next installments for the sake of the plot? Just burn the frigging Mika and Christa psychos, they don't even do it for being valuable antagonists imo.

This sequel is pretty freaking awesome.

If you liked the first book, you will love this second book.

I do suggest reading them in order.

Link and Jace's story

This book flowed perfectly from the first one and even filled in the missing information on what Jace went through when he was held by the vampires. It is a really good story.
I would ha given it 5 stars but there were a few editing errors that should not be in a book at this price. They didn't distract from the story too much. It was most missing words that you could fill in because of the rest of the sentence.

As this is the second book in the series, we start off a bit more familiar with the characters and world building by now. This is Jaces tale; a snarky shapeshifter who's mouth puts the back up of those who know him, but he is well loved anyways. At the start of the story which is a carryover from the ending of v. 1, he is captured and given over as a guinea pig to the man who aided his capture, but who also is one hot MoFo; Link. And let me just say as an aside, this picture is not representative of either character from what I read! Who the heck decided this cover fit?!?

Anyhow, Jace and Link accidently bond during some hot sex. Too bad Link tricked Jace with sex to get what he wanted. Jace no longer trusts him, but unfortunetly even after he's rescued (fairly early on in the book) he begins sulking, not realizing he's suffering from being separated from his mate. Luckily Sol, the head of their pride, is there to save the day. He forces Jace to go back and confront Link to get the lovin he needs. But Jace, being Jace, instead pays Link back for what he did. Too bad he shot himself in the foot though, because Link is the only one that can give Jace the release he so desperately needs.

The relationship finally gets a kick start when Sol intervenes yet again to help out Jace, and gets Link into the compound to help Jace. Jace fears he's mated to a 'bad guy' who's in league with evil vamps, but discovers he may not have any choice in the matter.

The story progresses and gets a little predictable, but again if you go into this expecting a formulaic story, you can enjoy this for what it is. I liked it, Jace was funny and sarcastic, though Link was a little hard to get a bead on personality wise-one minute he was the tough guy the next he was a big ole bottom. I got my HEA though, so all's well that ends well.

On to the next!

Jace is a leopard shifter; he has an M.D. and is currently being held hostage by an insane, off their rocker Vampire. Link is a bar owner who just happens to have his own chemistry lab in the back rooms so he can make special drugs for the insane, off their rocker Vampire.

Jace is a cool character who is snarky with a get stuffed attitude. So what if he has a gun pointed at his head, he’s pissed and will let everyone know it. Link has landed in it up to his eyeballs and must do what the Vamps want to keep others safe. He has no intention of following through with some things though, after all what the Vamps don’t know won’t hurt him.

I thought these characters matched well and suited each other to a ‘T’. I loved the fact that their mating wasn’t easy or all tied up with a pretty bow. I liked that they both struggled with it and that Jace didn’t let Link off scot-free for what he did. The sex between the two is passionate and intense and Jace might be the shifter but didn’t always come out on top. We also got to know more about Jace’s and Solomon’s background which fleshed the series out nicely. So we will hopefully see more conflict in the future.

The storyline and plot were ok but there were a few things that niggled at me and left me unsatisfied, where was the concern for Casey and Zane? Were the Vamps just driving around when they happened upon the kids? And why did it take so long for Link to confess his secret to Jace?

All in all though this is a good read and I’d recommend this to those who love shifters, conflict, danger, a bit of angst, hot sex and a storyline which promises more to come.

Update 1219 2018
Original review still stands on this one and still 3 stars

I did enjoy this book. That being said....

Would have liked to find out how, WHY, Link got started with the drug business with Mika to begin with. It's implied that his hand was forced but no real answer as to how that happened and what he was basically being blackmailed for was provided.

Jace's Third form sex scenes were.... awkward! Didn't really care for them. He was awkward with his mate AND it came across as more of a power fuck. The rest where Link is the dominating force were played in much better form, though at the beginning and even the first book, I wouldn't have guessed that Jace was much of a bottom boy so to find his mate to be the more dominating personality seemed a bit off at times. Then out of left field, we're told Link has an ex AND kids.. and for another loop the kids are actually more like teenagers. Link became more of a stand up guy in that he refused to hide his mating to another man from his kids even if it makes them uncomfortable.

This will not stop me from continuing the series though.

Maybe just 2.5 stars?
I have no idea how to rate this book. The writing was ok, the plot somewhat interesting, but overall the story left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Hopefully the next book will get better. But I'll still think twice before buying it.

This book was reviewed for Musings of a bookworm

This book carries on straight from the end of book 1 and boy what a start. We get to see some more of Leo's friends and get to know more about Jace. In the first one he came across as a bit of a loud mouth and in this one we find out he is a snarly loud mouth but very likeable with it. He goes from the frying pan into the fire and we are right there with him. This is a complex story but one that you get totally wrapped up in. We get to learn more of Link in this one too and I have to say I like him, I kind of did in the first one but in this one he and Jace are just explosive. I am so look forward to how this series is opening up and the stories will will get in the future.

It's really hard to make a drug dealer likeable. He never took responsibility for his actions. The first sex scene will turn some people off because it is essentially nonconsensual. Jace didn't say no but he was trying to escape and Link used the distraction to drug Jace for recapture. At that point, it didn't matter to me if Link occasionally lied to Mikka. Link was happy with his bar and making drugs for the vampires and not holding himself accountable for any harm that came from it. He wasn't looking for an out that would protect his kids. He stuck with the status quo because it worked for him.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series but this one just didn't work for me. The circumstances surrounding their first sexual encounter were pretty horrendous on Link's part but the event was never referred to again. It also annoys me that now two people have escaped from Mika but nobody has made any attempt to rescue the other shifters that are being held captive. I didn't sense any real bonding between Jace and Link and they never referred to any of the issues raised by the way that they met. A little bit disappointing in my opinion.

I don't know what to say about this because by the end I did wind up liking the story, but it started weird and borderline non consensual i felt like. Also, I don't feel like we ever really knew why Link was doing the drug deals or have any consequence for it. So-so follow up for me, I remember really enjoying the first book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, BLOOD OF A LEO. However, I found myself a little disappointed with this installment. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as interesting as the first installment. But I'm not giving up on this series yet. Hopefully the next book will be a lot better.

Not a bad romance between a shifter and a human. There were some different elements to this story that made it a very enjoyable read. There were also some issues, mostly on Link's side - such as his initial mistreatment of Jace - that were unresolved.

well, it took me several weeks for me to finish due to me finding better things to read. it just shows how people who don't like each other can be mated and then have to learn to live with each other. then later they fall in love! Just not my thing.

An amazing series. The characters are well written and lovable. I still have yet to decide which character is my favorite since I love so many of them! Can't wait to see what happens next!
