After further review: I upped this a star. I went back in and re read some parts. I feel like if I wanted to go back in and re-read the book should rate more than o.k. In general ok books are not second read or reference books. There is some good stuff in here. Still not my fave, but there is more than I realized at first read.
Original review: Eh. I expected a lot more. However the first clue might be the strange head not-on-real-body from the front cover. Overall good info but very basic and not in depth enough. It's not terrible - but there are much better books out there that you will find more inspirational than this one. Frankly I expected more! If you are looking to run/walk your first marathon or half I recommend looking at Marathoning for Mortals: A Regular Person's Guide to the Joy of Running or Walking a Half-Marathon or Marathon and Marathon: You Can Do It! or his Galloway's Book on Running and you can supplement with iphone/android apps or other online training plans. I found all of these helpful for the beginner who is not too sure of her capability in this new endeavor!
Definitely an informative read for runners beginning a training program. Answered a lot of questions I had about half-marathon training, and I'm sure I will reference it as I continue training.
I thought this book would be a lot more geared towards the half-marathon distance. Instead, it was more of a basic book about running in general. It was good for a quick skim though.
