Patterns are everywhere, an antidote to gloomy economic times, we see them creeping over shop fronts, packaging design, clothes and home accessories. Who wants mass-produced minimalism when you can have patterns with personality? Print & Pattern 2 is the latest book from the cult Print & Pattern website that celebrates all aspects of printed surface pattern. Featuring cute, colorful and contemporary designs on textiles, cards, gift wrap, stationery, wallpaper, tableware, books, illustration, and anything, the book will be a must for anyone who loves printed patterns and motifs.
I was under the impression I had already reviewed this... Obviously not. I adore "Bowie Style's" fun filled blog which is dedicated to print and pattern (printpattern.blogspot.com) so it was screamingly obvious that I would also fall in love with her books, which I did. I will continue to buy anything she releases as these volumes are an amazing amount of help when I have to research for modules on my degree in printed and constructed textiles. These books and her blog are very much dedicated to print so you won't find any experimental artistic fabrics or designers but I love print, I love fabric and I love illustration so these are perfect for me. I would recommend anyone check out the blog before purchasing the books to make sure that they are for you.
There are so much content on the Print and Pattern blog that it's not surprising a second book came out. It's still 304 pages so that's a lot of work to look at.
The prints and patterns in the book are beautiful. They are colourful and fun to look at. Most are vector style but the variety is immense. They all come with short artist profiles.
Great book for designers, illustrators and those who like crafting.
The book has a wide array of pattern and print designs, however, I was not really satisfied with the pattern choices and was not inspired as much as I hoped. I prefer the geometric one.
