Pip is a pup with a very loud bark. He scares all the cats when he strolls through the park! Beautifully illustrated by Axel Scheffler, this charming book is one of four board book editions of the successful Buggy Buddies series (60,000 sold worldwide!) with a noisy, animal sound-chip on the front cover.
Axel was born in Hamburg, Germany. At school he was good at art, but didn’t think of a career in illustration until he won a cuddly purple cow in a drawing competition.
He moved to England in 1982 to learn English and study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art and then set up home in London. Axel illustrated a number of books for various publishers, and in 1993 Kate suggested him as the illustrator for Julia Donaldson’s first picture book text, A Squash and a Squeeze. This was the start of a hugely successful partnership: their bestselling modern classic, The Gruffalo, has sold over three-and-a-half million copies worldwide, and the TV animation was broadcast on Christmas day 2009.
Axel has illustrated a number of other highly successful books, including Muddle Farm, and his books have been translated into 42 languages.
Axel lives in London with his partner and young daughter.
Pip is a puppy with a very loud bark, so much so that he scares all the cats (not surprisingly) when he is in the park and Axel Scheffler's marvellous illustrations portray all the cats clinging to the upper branches of a tree, looking suitably worried!
It doesn't matter whether Pip is happy, sad, good or bad, he still woofs with all his might!
Sunshine or rain he continues to woof and the only time he doesn't woof it while he is sleeping. But once awake he begins all over again! The postman is one of the people who he frightens with his barking and he often runs away scared and drops all his letters.
Indeed, if Pip had his way, he would spend the whole day woof, woofing away - as demonstrated by him having fun and barking as the children look on with their fingers in their ears!
