Giving Chase

Rate this book
Previously published; newly refreshed by author

The Chase boys. Ridiculously hot and notoriously single.

When landscaper Kyle Chase takes notice of Maggie Wright, all of Petal, Georgia, wonders what the quiet schoolteacher is hiding underneath her tight bun and boring blouses. Even Maggie doesn’t quite get it, but after a failed relationship and a disastrous attempt to get back out there, she’s no match against the famous Chase charm, and Kyle has it in spades.

Kyle wants Maggie in his life—and in his bed—and he doesn’t mind getting down and dirty to prove it. For years he’s avoided the kind of trouble that comes with “good girls” like her, but Maggie’s the best trouble he’s ever been in. He craves more of it. And more of her.

But even as their love grows into thoughts of forever, a hidden danger from Maggie’s past threatens to tear them apart. And when Maggie suddenly disappears, Kyle must put his faith in his family and race to save the love of his life before he loses her forever.

The Chase is on. One small town. Four hot brothers. And enough heat to burn up anyone who dares to get close. Don’t miss the next books: Taking Chase, Chased and Making Chase.

Giving Chase is the first book in the Chase Brothers series by Lauren Dane. I had a couple of this author’s other books on my to read list including her Delicious series but just never got to them. So when this one came on my radar as a re-release, I decided this was the perfect way to get to know this author.

red haired woman

Margaret (Maggie) Wright grew up always being told she wasn’t good enough, that she wasn’t as pretty as her older sister. Her mother and sister did everything in their power to demean her. Her father remained silent. Maggie went on to college and became a high school history teacher. With pretty severe self confidence issues, which is to be expected, she keeps herself under the radar. Her two best friends have had enough and give her a make over before a blind double date.

After a couple of dates with Alex, the man she was fixed up with, Maggie sees red flags like crazy with his behavior and stops seeing him. At the same time, suddenly the Chase brothers seemed to have noticed her. She has no idea why she would even be on their radar. In her opinion, she is no where near good enough for any of them.

Now let me introduce you to the Chase Family. I am just in love with this family. Mom, Polly, and Dad, Edward have raised four very good looking, successful in their own individual ways, boys. In this book you will mostly get to know two of them, Shane, the Police Chief, and Kyle who owns a landscaping business. All the boys knew Maggie but none had gotten to know her more than just in passing. But they noticed her now. The first to ask her out is Shane. But Shane has serious commitment issues from a past heartbreak and after a couple of dates, he runs. I do want to address something here. I have read that some readers didn’t like that she dated one brother first before falling for another. But they never did more than some heated kisses. And keep in mind that Maggie is completely overwhelmed that they are even acknowledging her, let alone asking her out!

hands touching

Kyle felt attracted to Maggie from the start. He can’t believe he never bothered to get to know her before. After his brother walked away from her, he waited several weeks before asking her out himself. He knew right away she was special, that she could be important to him. Maggie felt it too but it takes her a long time to actually accept that someone like Kyle could really care for her.

Once these two start dating, their feelings develop pretty fast. They certainly don’t lack in chemistry. Together they are hotter than hot. Maggie’s family, though, does their best to beat her down and cause drama. And at the same time, there is danger lurking. Something that could rip them apart and destroy their lives. Through it all, the Chase family rallies around Maggie and becomes the family she never had.

“In the last half an hour, she’d gotten more comfort and love from the Chase family than she’d had from her own over her entire life.”

man hiding with camera

I really enjoyed this book. It did take me awhile to get used to her writing style. She switched back and forth pretty fast between point of views and a couple of times I had to go back a few sentences to make sure I knew who was talking. But the book was fast moving, steamy, sweet, and suspenseful. I loved the ending. It seems like Shane gets another chance at love in the next book in the series, Taking Chase. Will he run again? I definitely won’t hesitate to read more by this author.

After reading so many good reviews about this series, I finally caved and decided to see what all the fuss was about. Now I know... It's all about the hunky and sweet Chase brothers, of course! ;)

Giving Chase is Kyle's story, and what a charmer he is! Honorable, caring, passionate and protective, he's the son-in-law every mother dreams of - not to mention the husband every woman hopes to find. He doesn't fall fast for Maggie, but when he does... Oh boy, can I say what a charmer he is again?

Maggie doesn't fall fast for Kyle either. In fact, they've known in each other all their lives - that's a given when you live in a small town - but they've never been more than friendly acquaintances. In the beginning of this story, she actually dates other guys before hooking up with him. Naturally, all that is moot when Kyle sets out to woo and conquer her. Maggie has some big self-esteem issues - thanks to her b!tchy mother and sister - and Kyle has to keep convincing her that he's truly attracted to her and that he's in for the long haul. Is there any doubt about his persuasion powers? ;)

As the story begun, I was a bit put off by Maggie dating the creepy Alex and then hooking up with Kyle's older brother Shane, but that was short-lived - thankfully! - and once Kyle stepped in, those shenanigans were over. Kyle and Maggie made a cute couple, and she was definitely better off with him than with his brother. There wasn't much tension in their relationship, aside from Maggie's insecurities about herself, and I have to say, that was a bit dull. It was obvious they did get along and their love scenes were hot but, at one point, I felt like I was reading a premature extended epilogue. I mean, they'd already said their ILY and were basically living together 2/3 through the book, what else was going to happen? Well, I've never been happier to see a stalker in action when creepy Alex made his comeback near the end of the story, LOL.

Some people will think I'm crazy, but this book had a chick-lit vibe to me. Not in its structure per se, but in the way it seemed more focused on Maggie's overcoming her insecurities and becoming a more assertive woman than on her relationship with Kyle. Don't get me wrong, the romance part played a big role in the story, but the lack of conflict between Maggie and Kyle made the other parts of the story more interesting.

As for Ms. Lane's writing style, there was something "off" about it. The story didn't flow smoothly, and sometimes I felt like she was just describing a series of events instead of telling a story, if you know what I mean. Even so, her writing was good enough to make me care and root for the characters, so it wasn't difficult to keep reading.

All in all, this was an enjoyable, light and sweet read. It wasn't perfect, but it was entertaining. Granted, the Chase family was too good to be true, but it was nice to read an uplifting story about people who were kindhearted for a change. Many reviewers have said it before, and I agree: this book made me feel good, and sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered.

Not safe!

I tried but it was just too cringe worthy. After reading the blurb and getting through a few chapters I thought I somehow got the wrong book. The blurb says the story is about Kyle Chase and Maggie but Maggie spends a quarter of the book (granted thats as far as I was able to stomach, but still!) mooning over another man!!! The OM also happens to be the supposed hero’s brother, Shane!!!

This is a hard line for me. I hate when siblings double dip. Its not for me.

After the following thoughts from Maggie (about Shane) I just couldn’t see how poor Kyle would ever be able to measure up.

... she’d never met someone with that kind of sheer masculinity and sex appeal before. It left her a bit breathless.

Shane Chase brought a level of physical desire into her life that she wasn’t sure she’d ever felt before.

I want to have sex with him. I don’t think I’ve been this horny. Ever.”

Yeah.... sorry but feeling this level of attraction is off putting when its directed at another person and not the H/h they’re supposed to end up with. It left me feeling grossed out and tbh I felt like Kyle was getting cheated on.

I had to throw in the towel when Maggie (having already admitted to liking Kyle) decides she’s going to continue seeing his brother as a “fling” aka to have sex with him. She’s hurt when she sees him on a date with OW but is still desperate and apparently horny enough to take his scraps anyway!! She actually lets Shane take her home and they’re making out and basically dry humping on her couch. I had to quit right there, at the 28% mark. There was a lot of tongue kissing and heavy detailed groping. I kept think this is the guy who will be her future brother in law and he’s touched her and shoved his tongue down her throat? WTF?!? I dont know and dont care really if things go further than second base, between them, its too outside my comfort zone and this is a definite deletion off my kindle.

Wish I could unread this! Selective amnesia would come in handy right about now 😑

Main character Maggie is a teacher in a smallish town. She is very pretty but her looks have always been disparaged by her mother and sister, both former beauty queens. So Maggie has a very low opinion of herself.

The town is also home to the Chase family which includes the four studly Chase brothers.

Maggie has a run in with the sheriff Shane, the oldest Chase brother. They have a few sassy words. You think at first she and Shane are going to get together but Shane, after a few dates, is basically a jerk to her (because he has been Disappointed In Love. So his brother, Kyle, who has had his eye on Maggie steps in and takes his chance and the two begin a hot and heavy romance.

There are a few hot and sexy love scenes and overall the love story between Maggie and Kyle was sweet. However, there were times when the writing was so over the top I was wondering if this was a first time author? I really don't know if she is or isn't but the book really read like it.

The story is fine, but the biggest problem is the characters. They are so cardboard, imo. Maggie's mother and sister are evil caricatures. There is a scene where they loudly and publicly declare that she is plain because she isn't tall and blond. There is another scene where her sister loudly and publicly sneers that Kyle won't marry Maggie because she's not a virgin. Actually, there are loud and public confrontations in almost every chapter.

Shane's being dumped by his fiance is The Reason he is such a jerk and is Afraid Of Love. Various women in town keep coming onto Kyle right in front of Maggie even though he states outright that she's his girlfriend and she's practically sitting on his lap at the time (this happens quite a lot in the book). Maggie is the ultimate Mary Sue. She is wonderful, all the guys want her and she has a stalker who is obsessed by her. She even monologues, loudly and publicly, about how she's tried to do her best and make her mother proud.

The book wasn't bad really, but the characters and situations were drawn so broadly they felt cartoonish in places.

I can't really recommend.

4 ½ stars – Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense

I feel like I’m the last person to arrive at a Chase family picnic since there are already so many great and rave reviews for Dane’s Chase Brothers series, but I’m glad I made a last minute appearance for this shindig because it was well worth it!

Giving Chase is the first book in a feel good, love conquers all contemporary romance series about the four hunky Chase Brothers (Kyle, Shane, Marc, and Matt) of small town Petal, Georgia and their loving, doting, spitfire mother Polly and tenderhearted, wise, lawyer father Edward.

This first Chase story focuses on history teacher and all around nice girl Maggie Wright, who after an unfortunate run-in with oldest brother Shane Chase involving some spilled chili cheese fries, stalker threats, and meddling by friends and family, finds herself the subject of a major Kyle Chase woo campaign...lucky her!

Kyle was a total dream beta hero, and his hot pursuit, fierce protection, and sweet romance of Maggie was swoon-worthy. Their relationship faced several challenges, including her insecurities, her outright hateful mother and sister, and a seriously creepy, dangerous stalker, but through it all, Kyle stood by Maggie and the strength of their love was inspiring. A great start to a fabulous, sweet, romantic series! 4 ½ stars!

Wonderful book: Sweet, and hot romance, too good-to-be-true hero, gutsy heroine, and a really quick, easy read.

Maggie's a high school history teacher, Kyle is a landscaper and one of four very fine Chase brothers. Maggie's got a bit of an inferiority complex, largely due to (IMO) a mentally ill mother and sister. These two make the Wicked Witch of the West seem like a pussycat! They get off on putting Maggie down in various ways, telling her that she's jealous of her beauty pagent sister's looks and life, and insinuating she's not good enough to land a decent guy for a boyfriend. These two are almost unbelievable in their cruelty, and I couldn't understand why sweet Maggie would have anything to do with them.
Maggie originally starts out dating Kyle's older brother Shane, but Shane, burned by a former girlfriend, treats Maggie shabbily. Brother Kyle, who lusts after Maggie from afar, makes his move when it's clear that nothing will develop between Shane and Maggie. And Kyle and Maggie hit it off immediately. Of course, Maggie has her moments of inferiority, wondering why a sexy, popular guy like Kyle Chase would want to date a woman like her. But Kyle, through his love and attention, helps Maggie to rid her feelings of insecurity, and she blossoms into a very sexy and strong woman.
There is also a subplot about a former casual date of Maggie's who turns into a stalker and tries to come between the couple. There are some tense moments near the end of the book, and Kyle and his whole extended family rally around Maggie, lending her much needed support.

This is what I'd call a feel good romance. It's on the mild side of erotic, has a nice easy plot to follow, and wonderful characterizations. I look forward to reading more about the wonderful Chase family, especially the follow-up book called "Taking Chase", which is Shane's story.

I think my IQ just dropped by half after suffering the ridiculousness that is this book. It was poorly written from start to end and nothing seems to head in the right decision. It was choppy, at best. It's as if I'm reading something that is written by a 9th grader who is well versed in the topic of sex.

1. All of the characters in the story are emotionally immature. Sometimes I feel like they're all 16 and not the mid-twenties that they actually are.

2. The dialogues are horrific!

3. Having your boyfriend's father calling you darlin', sugar, and baby girl is icky and illegal.

4. Having said boyfriend who is 29 years old and his brothers calling their father 'daddy' is just as disturbing.

5. Being a huge fan of CSI for years, I don't think cops take pictures of living, breathing victim for evidence purposes at the crime scene. They would have done so at the hospital, at the ambulance while the medics tend to them, or at the police station.

I wish I had seen this awesome review before I started this awful book!

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

*************************************

Boyfriend #1

The book starts with the heroine Maggie dating a guy named Alex. They don't go further than kissing. Then, she feels he is weird and obsessive; so she decides she doesn't want to see him anymore.

Boyfriend #2

When Shane, one of the town hotties, asks her on a date, she accepts. They go on a few dates that involves kissing, groping etc. (And here I am thinking, Shane is the hero. Silly me!). Then, he starts to act like a douche-bag who is not considerate and affectionate enough. And finally, when he thinks she needs something more than casual, he goes out with other women and makes sure she sees it. However, she is so desperate that she decides she can accept something casual with him and invites him home. They start kissing & touching. Then, while kissing and getting intimate, she says she loves how he touches & kisses her & he is out of her house like he's being chased by rabid dogs. Our lovely character is afraid of the word "love".

Boyfriend #3

Then, after a while, his brother Kyle takes the role of her boyfriend and I pray that the third one she goes out with is the hero and yes, he is, thank God. The brother of boyfriend number 2, Shane, aka the douche-bag is the hero of the book, yayyyy - let's keep it in the family, right?!

Still, I really tried to be patient with this charade of a book, however, with her pathetic character and the poor writing that increasingly got on my nerves, I am dropping it now at 50%. And I am definitely putting this writer in my "don't read from this writer again" shelf. I don't need one more needy, silly and pathetic heroine with no self-respect to read about.

I’m really enjoying these re-release ARCs as they are like going back to your hometown for a visit. You get to sit for a spell and reacquaint yourself with old friends and that’s always a fun thing to do. Giving Chase was probably the first Lauren Dane book I read long enough ago that it’s actually on my very first eReader, an old Nook. I loved the small town aspect of the story, and it had a bit of suspense to it, both things I’ve always enjoyed in my books. Once I’d read all the Chase Brothers series, I discovered her paranormal books and devoured her backlist.

I loved that Maggie actually dated one brother before falling in love with Kyle. It was handled well and never felt like a love triangle. This is mainly because when Shane screwed up, he did it in a huge way so that door was not just closed – it was sealed shut. Kyle, close to his family, wisely waited a bit before making his move. Because of this, it felt more like an interesting twist than an angst fest.

Kyle was just absolutely swoon-worthy. Once he decided he would take a shot, he set out to woo his woman in a way that would do any southern mama proud. Just like all his brothers, he’d always had it pretty easy with women. He’d never seriously dated one, and certainly never had to work for one, but he was all in when it came to Maggie. He was gentle when she needed it and extremely protective even when it meant taking on her own family. Needless to say, Maggie was one lucky woman.

Maggie had a tough upbringing with the mother and sister from hell. Because of this, she had an inferiority complex that did get on my nerves a bit. She also aired her mother issues at the drop of a hat which I found a bit odd. When she wasn’t stressing about that I liked her. She was a bit of a lost one but blossomed under Kyle’s care.

I loved Kyle’s family and some of Maggie’s friends. Each of the brothers has their own distinct personality and I even found myself liking Shane at the end despite his asshattery. The suspense aspect didn’t necessarily have me on the edge of my seat, but it had just enough action to keep things interesting.

I enjoyed this little blast from the past and am thrilled these books are being brought back to life. Yeah, I could see some dusty corners and maybe an outdated window dressing or two in this little trip down memory lane, but the story felt just as sweet, the chemistry was just as hot, and at the end, I was smiling just like the first time I read it.

When I picked this book up last night, I didn't know how hooked on it I would be. I looked up and realized I needed to get at least 3 hours of sleep before my long day today.
All day long I have wanted to finish this book. I wanted to say, "Ummm kids...Ms. Shellie needs a Time Out for a hour or so" but instead I ended up taking 15 ADHD kids swimming...lol
I won't get into this book to much because most of my dear friends here have already written some wonderful things about this book. I TOTALLY agree with all of you.
What was not to like about it? Kyle was a woman's dream. He amazed me throughout the book. He was not only sexy, but dang he was sooo in love with Maggie, and showed it in many beautiful ways...he was a hero unlike many I have read about. I loved him, and I can't wait to read about his brothers.
Also...I want to be friends with Maggie, Liv and Dee...how great were they? Maggie was such a great heroine for me. She was smart and certainly knew how to fight for her man...dang it just didn't get any better for me!!
I can't wait to read the next installment.
Thanks to all of y'all who have continuedly insisted for everyone to give this one a chance...more books for me to buy...but at least they will be great ones!

I read the e-version of this book and have re-read it a couple of times. The story has humor, hot men, and hot sex!

Maggie is a good-hearted, kinda shy schoolteacher. She also just dumped her latest no-good boyfriend. She does come out of her shell a bit when sexy Sheriff Shane Chase bumps into her, causing her to spill her chili cheese fries all over herself...and then tries to blame HER for it! She lets him have it, right there in the town's hottest bar. One of her best friends decides to cheer her up with a makeover.

Whoa...what happened to the mousy schoolteacher? Now she's being pursued by not one, but two Chase brothers...and one fatal-attraction-type wacko!

Love the Chase brothers (I want one!) and loved this story.

I enjoyed this short, feel-good, erotic romance. Both Kyle Chase and Maggie Wright were very likable characters. Maggie had a lot of self-esteem issues brought on by the way her family treated her. Because of that treatment, Maggie accepted being thought less of by (some) others in the town in which she lived. She did have two wonderful and dear friends that were a blessing. But, when she finally started dating Kyle, he showed her how to be proud of herself and she developed a backbone that made This Reader proud.

There was a dash of suspense thrown in the mix that helped build the story. Very entertaining and I'm looking forward to reading the next in this series.

I read this book around Thanksgiving and that event passed through the pages, too. Kinda neat.

Okay got this one today from B&N!! Could not wait till I could read it. I am in love with the Chase brothers. Just gotta get the rest of them in the house. truely a keeper for my shelves.

Maggie has been put down all her life from her Mother and sister. Just reading what her mother and sister said to Maggie, I wanted to B*T^H slap both of them. Noone should ever be belittled the way they did her. Just set my teeth on edge.

Maggie first went out with the oldest brother Shane, but that did not work out. Shane had been seriously hurt by his ex-fiancee' but he should not have taken it out on Maggie. He was such a butthole.

But Kyle, was the knight in shining armor!!! I just lovesd the HEA. Get the book you will like it. If I tell more I will give it all away. Just buy the BOOK!!

http://bookslifewine.com/r-giving-chase/ (Also, just dropped a star after re-reading Sans review)

Note: I received my free copy of Giving Chase in June 2011. Giving Chase has been on Mt. TBR for 5 years and 1 month so it qualifies for my Mt. TBR challenge AND my Kindle Freebie Freakout Challenge!!

Giving Chase was pretty "meh" for me. I didn't care for a lot of the plot lines but I'm reading this series to prep myself for the series after (OCD, thy name is MrsJ).

To be honest, there's a lot I didn't care for in Giving Chase: I HATED the whole brother thing, really hated. I felt...uncomfortable knowing that Maggie and Shane swapped spit and then Kyle entering the picture. It...just wasn't ok with me.

The stalking situation...could have been worse but I disliked Maggie being placed in that predicament.

All in all, it's an ok read but not my cup of tea. There are three books in this series, I think. I'm already reading (and disliking) book #2 but we'll see.

**ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review**

A sweet romance between the nerdy high school teacher and one (or two) of the four gorgeous Chase brothers. Giving Chase by Lauren Dane is the first in the Chase Brothers series and this newly refreshed version has me anxious to read more of the series.

Maggie is a high school history teacher with limited experience with the opposite sex and low self esteem. Her best friend gives her a makeover and suddenly she is noticed by the formerly oblivious men of Petal.

Shane Chase was her high school crush and dating him is a dream come true, but a bad breakup has turned him into a jerk. After humiliating Maggie and parading other women in front of her, his brother Kyle Chase steps right in to pick up the pieces of Maggie’s broken heart.

Kyle Chase is a landscaper with a heart of gold. He didn’t think he was ready for a permanent relationship, but when he saw Maggie for the first time it changed his mind. But his brother asked her out first. Once Kyle saw that Shane had moved on, he took a chance and asked Maggie out.

I didn’t like the whole brother vs. brother dynamic in this book. I felt the story could have been just as good if Maggie never went out with Shane. I didn’t like that Kyle and Shane brought it up throughout the book. Let it go!

Aside from the whole brother thing, this is a sweet romance with a bit of suspense tied in. I love getting to know the Chase family and I think you will too. Maggie and Kyle are a cute couple who get a heartwarming HEA.

I was hooked on this one from the start and didn't/couldn't put it down! I am sorry it took me so long to pick it up.

It's one of those stories that leaves you feeling warm and happy afterwards. The hero is PERFECT, the heroine is a spitfire!

I am anxious to get the next in the series!

2nd read 3/13/11 - loved it just as much the second read. It truly is a feel good read the second time too. Thanks Ms. Dane!

i read Laid Bare and i loved it. this got good reviews and so i thought i would give it a shot. I am a little confused. maybe I took the book wrong. it appears to be something written by a teenager. the dialog, oh god, the dialog. it is so ridiculous i ended up laughing half the time and shaking my head in disgust the other half. maybe i wasnt suppose to take it seriously?

Genre: Contemporary Romance

What an adorable love story sometimes I find that adorable is just what I need.

Maggie Wright is a high school teacher in her hometown of Petal, Georgia. In comparison to her mother and sister Janie, Maggie believes her looks to be lower than average. She dresses in clothes a size to big and keeps her beautiful long mane of strawberry blond locks secured in a bun. Toss in the fact that she sports out of date style glasses.... yes I would say the girl is in need of a makeover.

The Pumphouse
Every Friday night she and her best friends Liv and Dee go to Pumphouse to eat and have drinks. On Maggie's trip back from the restroom she stops and get her order only to be slammed in to by Petals six and a half feet tall sheriff. Shane Chase. Now her chili cheese fries are on her and the floor. After Maggie gives Shane a piece of her mind she leaves. Not realizing she has now caught the eye of every Chase brother.
There are four Chase brothers Shane, Kyle, Mark and Matt. All are sexy as hell and very much sought after by the females in Petal. None are married nor do they have plans to wed. Shane is the only one who came close to marriage but was only hurt in the end.

Damn, word travels fast
Since Petal is a small town word of the incident at Pumphouse travels fast and Polly Chase comes to Maggie an apologizes on her eldest sons behalf. As I read I'm already aware Maggie has some self esteem issues. And soon these self esteem issues begin to worry her friends. They are pissed that Maggie's mother and sister have been so cruel to her causing her to think that she has only brains but no beauty. Fed up Liv decides to give Maggie a mini makeover and sets her up on a date with Alex Parsons. A guy they went to school with.
Apology Accepted
When Shane spots Maggie he decides to apologize only it does not go over well. Eventually he get's a second chance to apologize. When she accepts he asks her out on a date.
They go out and things seem to be going good. Right up until date two when something happens causing Shane to flee. Yes flee the guy practically runs from her. Shane bolts out the door right in the middle of them kissing. This of course leaves Maggie baffled. Then she spots him with his new date the following Friday night at Pumphouse.

Your lost is my gain
After all the major mistakes made by the oldest Chase brother Kyle becomes appalled and he then asks Maggie out. Maggie is reluctant but finally agrees to a date.
Well let me tell you, more than just sparks fly. Clothes fly. Off their bodies and to the floor. The passion and chemistry between these two is undeniable.

"There's the Red of my dreams. I love it when you go all sassy on me." He pushed his face into her cleavage and breathed her in. His goatee tickled the sensitive skin there and shivers of delight and anticipation broke over her. "I was hoping you meant you wanted to make love. But I wanted to be sure because I respect you so much. I just don't want to push pass where your willing to go."
She leaned over and pressed her lips to his ear.
"Kyle, can you respect me while your inside me? Because I really -and I mean really -need you to fuck me."

Family Matters
Kyle Chase falls in love with Maggie and he cannot understand how some one so beautiful can have such low self esteem. Then they bump into Janie, Maggie's sister. And he get's the reason why first hand and he is furious.
Maggie's mother and sister have always treated her as if she was inferior to them. Her family disgust me I could not stand her mother I seriously was hoping she would get hit by a damn bus. She was such a BEEYOTCH!

Thoughts
Yes this book was sweet as cotton candy and yes it has some cheesy lines. But I didn't care I loved it!Sometimes sweet is what the doctor orders. I plan to read all four books for each Chase brother. I gave this book a 3.5 rating because the story was a bit predictable.
If your looking for a sweet romance with a little suspense then this is for you.

My Ratings
Characters- Lovable
Writing Style- Good
Plot/Storyline- Good
Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy
Overall- I liked it!! And will continue with the series!!

Now go forth and read. And then tell us about it on Goodreads!

Giving Chase kicks off Lauren Dane's Chase Brothers series. Maggie has been beaten down emotionally by her mother and it means she's completely unaware of what she has to offer the world. No fear - buddy Liv will give her a makeover and the guys will take notice. The Chase brothers are the town hotties and have women falling all over themselves (and acting pretty catty) to snag one.

This is one of those audiobooks that I listen to over and over... but it still has some things that don't quite sit well with me. I think the biggest drawback to this is that, in order to set up for later events in the book/series - Maggie dates another guy, then oldest brother Shane, before finally finding her match with Kyle. It's 35% into the book before they have their first date. This doesn't leave a lot of time for them to build a relationship and there's a lot of time jumping.

Maggie's mom, sister, and several of the women in town are OTT immature and catty in how they behave. Like not even remotely realistic. I'd say it was like high school, but even my teens weren't like this.

I do like when Kyle & Maggie are together. Kyle is a sweetheart and they have good chemistry. Several steamy sex scenes bring heat to this book. There's also a short but well done suspense element when Maggie is kidnapped by her stalker ex. I enjoyed the ending and the epilogue is so sweet.

Narration:
Aletha George is great. I love her narrations. She does a great job of giving everyone a distinct voice. She's also a master at really packing a punch with the emotional parts. There's still spots where I cry every time I listen.

CW: There's a fairly descriptive kidnapping and sexual assault sequence.

A new Author i love!!!!

Being British, i have always wanted to visit the states... not new york or Vegas but the south... After watching the Hart of Dixie series over and over again... i admit i am slightly obsessed.....

This book encompass's all that i love... family Drama, a community, lifelong friendships, dances and get together for the community... And i listened to the audio... i love the twang!!!!

The characters are multi - dimensional, and the story was amazing.... A huge 5 stars from me... considering i usually read paranormal or fantasy, i rarely love normal romances this much....

It would be so easy to hate this book. Or at least let loose a snarkfest that could include diagrams, pictures and a lot of cussing on my part. But I’m going to take it easy on this book. Why? I’ve no idea. I just felt like not being bitchy while I’m sitting in an airport next to a guy that is trying to cover up the cigarette smell ground into his clothing and skin by wearing waaaaaay the hell too much aftershave. If I start with the bitchy, it’s going to be an even longer trip than it already is.

Sorry, where was I? Ah yes. Giving Chase. Pretty little redhead named Maggie in a small town in Georgia. Maggie is a history teacher and a bit of a spitfire (is anyone else getting tired of that word? Or is this one of the grievances that only those who read a lot of romance novels have?) but is too shy and sweet to really let her inner woman-who-roars out to play. Until the local sheriff bumps into her and acts like a dickwad. Then she’s all up in arms and snark and lights a fire under at least two penis-carrying people.

Now, this sheriff (named Shane Chase) is one of the mandatory hawt and sexy brothers that all small towns in the South seem to be blessed with in Romacelandia. Seriously, I’m starting to think that sexy bachelors over the age of 25 live only in areas that would seem positively redneck to someone born and raised just outside San Francisco. Do I need to move to one of these places? Is that the only way to find a single adult male? Sorry, digressing again. So. Four brothers, all single and all prime real estate on the dating market. (Fuck me, I can’t believe I just typed that. Note to self: Don’t write reviews on less than three hours sleep.) The sheriff is emotionally stunted after his fiancée left him just before their wedding to run away with his best friend. So naturally he treats all women like disposable blow up dolls! Luckily, the next brother in line, Kyle, is there to fall in love with our heroine and make her realize she’s a beautiful, strong, smart, funny, empowered woman who gives him a boner that just won’t go away.

Oh, wanna know who else is an asshole in this story? Just about every single person who is not in the Chase family. WTF? How can every fucking person in Maggie’s life (aside from those Chases and her BFFs) be that horrible? It seemed like the entire town was out to beat our heroine down, and her mother and sister were leading the lynch mob. Talk about overkill. Sure, the message that we shouldn’t care what other people think about us and as soon as we love ourselves others will love us too is important. But this went way beyond that. Reality didn’t get a look in on this plot. Everything was exaggerated to the point of caricature (at least, that’s how it seemed to me).

Now about that stalker subplot. Really? I mean, really? Was it really that necessary? I didn’t see any added value from it. There was already enough drama and conflict with just the bitchy denizens of the small town. In fact, I might have been able to let the Maggie hatefest go if it weren’t for the stalker.

Another unnecessary factor in this story? The “erotica”. It got dropped in out of nowhere. Kyle and Maggie would be sitting there, having fun, learning to be a couple, when out of the blue he thinks, “I wanna bend her over something and fuck her.” Wow. Okay, dude. Even more jarring was Maggie thinking, “I wonder how his tongue would feel on my clit?” Ok, weren’t you guys just having a beer? Where did that come from? I’m all for some down and dirty smut, but only if it fits with the feel of the rest of the story. This didn’t. As I said on one of my status updates, it was almost like Dane wrote this sweet contemporary romance novella, but the publisher (Samhain) looked at it and said, “Nice. Now, you need to add some suspense. Throw a murder or a stalker in there. And more sex. Make it explicit. We are an erotica publishing house after all.” So Dane did just that. Without weaving those scenes in with the rest of her story. It feels very…boilerplate to me.

Also, great job on glossing over huge chunks of time in a single sentence. The last part of the last chapter and the epilogue read like a human interest story in the local newspaper.

Yeah, so it sounds like I have a lot of things I didn’t like about this story, right? And it’s true. But I still enjoyed it. I’m pretty sure this was one of Dane’s earlier works. It’s pretty short, and the writing style doesn’t seem very developed at this point. For some reason, I was able to look past the problems and enjoy the underlying story – that sweet Southern romance. I’m glad I read this and I’ll read the other books in this series. Just not right away. I wonder if I should read them before starting on the Brown Sibling series and the rest of the Federation Chronicles, just so that I won’t go giving myself a headache from headdesking at the writing style and somewhat-ridiculous plotting.

In summary: this is recommended for those who are not too picky about plotting and want a fast, often sweet, read. Not recommended as a good introduction to Dane’s work though.

I love this book so much, so definitely 5stars.

The story was about Maggie, a teacher who has no self-confidence towards herself. She's really pretty and has a big heart, though, but her mother spent most of her life to tell the opposite to her, told her how she envied her sister Jane's beauty, and all. It's not true. She started to think that she's not pretty compared to Jane, and all men will fall for Jane instead of her.

But one day,her best friends Liv and Dee do a little magic to her, change her long skirt and boring clothes to a sweet and more appealing one.
They also dab some makeup to her face. Result : she looked amazing.

all Chase Brothers (Shane, Kyle,Matt and Marc) were amused to her new looks. They never put any attention to her before. But since then, every single of them could never forget about her. Shane is the sheriff in their town. Once, he and Maggie argued and she called her dumbass. Eversince, they started dating but not serious enough, Maggie had a feeling towards him but he backed off because of his trauma of his past. Maggie hurts, but not that long, because Shane's brother Kyle likes her but never said anything since his brother Shane got to know Maggie first. When he knew Shane hurt her feelings by dating with some other girls in town after rejected her feelings, he goes on.

Love the way he told her his feelings,
"What brings you here,Kyle?"
"I don't know." He hesitated. "Yes,I do. I wanted to see you."
"You wanted to see me?"
"Yes,Maggie Wright. I wanted to see you. I can't stop thinking about you. I should you know, but I can't.

I love how he showed his respect and love to Maggie.
Give me a chance to show you that not all Chase brothers are bad. Let me get to know you, show you who I am.
I don't know. What about Shane? He's your brother.
What about him? Are you in love with him? If you are, I'll back off, but only for a while because I'll be waiting for it to wear off. If not? Well, I've talked with Matt and Marc about it, to get their opinion on the matter and they're under the same impression I am. If Shane wants to continually close himself off because of an ex-fiancee, the rest of us should be able to follow our own hearts.

Love the way he gave the look of his cocky smile and confidence :D
First of all, I'm going to be totally honest with you. I've never actually pursued a woman before. They always come to me. That should show you a bit about how interested I am. I like you. You intrigued me. You're beautiful and sweet and funny and a hell of a baker. Why shouldn't I be interested?

and I really likes the way he loves Maggie but still defend his brother,Shane though it may make Maggie feel sorry for Shane.
I don't think he meant to disrespect you. Hell, I love my brother and he's a good person but ever since Sandra, he's been like this with women. I think anyone that he truly likes is someone he'll push away right quick. I don't know why I'm saying all of this, it only makes him look better but he is a nice guy, he's just wounded.

and the best part of my love to Kyle is when he protected Maggie over her mother and sister and one of Kyle's ex. He showed no respect to all cruel things they said about Maggie. Me myself hate her family (except her father) so much. They are all so pathetic!

and by the way I really love Chase family. They were all so welcome to to Maggie, somehow it reminds me to the Cullens. They did the same thing to Bella. Kyle's mother Polly has a kind and warm-hearted like Esme, Edward Cullen's mom ^-^

and also how funny Shane called himself dumbass after he saw how beautiful and valuable Maggie was as a woman. But too bad she's already engaged to Kyle mwahahaha. Chances don't always come twice. So, take it or forget it :) :)

the ending is fabulous. I love it so much Kylie purposed her. Chase family have a tradition to purpose their couples on Christmas. So,he did it. so sweet and I wish my man will purpose me on Christmas too. mwahahaha (someone please told my boyfriend!!lol)

forgot to mention, Alex, a librarian who dated Maggie first before Shane. He's totally freak and pyscho. Maggie rejected him and dating Shane, too bad he can't accept it and started doing freaking things. He told her that she's his and all things, and even stole her belongings, like underwears, lingeries and other private stuffs. omg. that freak guy really freaked me out. ==* But that makes this story more interesting to read, though. hoho

My friend once asked me,"is this book good? is it,y know, hot??? and stupid me I don't even know this book is erotica until she told me LOL
after reading a half chapter of the whole book, I said, nope it isn't hot at all. But soon after I said that, I found it apparently very HOT LMAO. *I feel so embarrased to say this, but omg, Kyle and Maggie MWAHAHAHAHAHA. I think I'm goin to reread this soon. :$ lol

A good first book in the Chase Brothers series.

Maggie is the stereotypical glasses wearing, plain-Jane that catches the eye of all the yummy Chase brothers when her girlfriend decides to give her a make-over. It's after she's been blown off by one of the brothers that Kyle Chase steps in and makes his move. I really liked Kyle and Maggie together...there was never any of the push/pull or back and forth between them, that is so often incorporated into stories like this. No him pushing her away for her own good, no her pushing him away because she fears her heart will be broken...there were no ex girlfriends showing up to cause turmoil, no secrets or lies that popped out temporarily tearing them apart. I do typically like that sort of stuff in my books, but it is refreshing sometimes to read a romance about two people who fall in love and are straight forward and honest with each other from the get-go.

The whole Chase "family dynamics" was sometimes a little over the top but I liked how protective they all became of Maggie and how she was taken in and accepted into their family. It definitely had some cute and sweet moments along with some very hot sex! There was even a little bit of suspense thrown in to add some excitement to the story.

Giving Chase wasn't necessarily anything original but it was still enjoyable and i will definitely be continuing on with this series to get all the other brother's stories! :)

I really enjoyed this book, it definitely had a "feel good" kind of vibe going on! However, there were times when I thought... sheesh, that's really corny/cheesy/(insert cringe worthy adjective)!

I probably would have given it five shars, had Kyle been a bit more... I don't know, rough I guess! After reading so many paranormal, alpha male, beating on chest, she my woman, I her man kind of books... he just seemed... nice. LOL, wow, that sounds funny but it's the truth. I wanted him to take charge in the end and go bust down some doors and beat the crap out of the creep that was stalking her... instead he just... let his brother handle it!! What's up with that?!? She's YOURS!! ;) Ok - enough of that!

Having said that, I'm really looking forward to the rest of the books in the series! I recommned this to anyone looking for a feel good mildly erotic romance. Enjoy! :)
