I didn't feel like the note on humanism at the end was necessary.

The day with the Noblewoman is only half the book: the first half is a brief introduction to the medieval world, or at least the part of it that a Noblewoman, in this case Blanche, the countess of Champagne, would occupy.

The watercolor illustrations by Georgio Bacchin have many details that children will enjoy poring over and bring the period to life better than the translated text does. There is one slightly gruesome picture of the death of Blanche's husband, however. There are also many supplemental illustrations and photographs. I think it would be a good addition to a elementary medieval history unit.
