This goes onto my "Must own shelf" and in fact is already in my Amazon card! What a beautiful way to wrap gifts vs the "usual" way!! Lovely!
The book has easy to follow step by step pictures.
I can't wait to have a need to do the Ringo tsutsumi ~ Rabbit-shaped fold!

This has a lot about the cultural significance and current use of furoshiki in Japan.
The sizes of the clothes are squares, with them ranging from as small as 20" x 20" to as large as 80" x 80" and sizes in between, and they are used to carry things, wrap things, and they are both decorative and functional. That does seem like a theme in Japan--that art is very much a part of the culture, and that making the things that you use in every day life to be beautiful is a cultural goal.
These are not something that I endeavor to make myself, but rather I will be on the look out for them when I am traveling there.

These descriptions make the art of fabric wrapping seem easy. We will definitely have to try this the next time we do "How-To" programs at the library. I didn't get to try any of the wraps yet because I need to buy fabric, but we will definitely be trying this.
