This seems like a really good overview of Taiwan. With the availability of apps and wifi, I can't see myself carrying this around when we travel to Taiwan. But I do think it will be a good resource as we plan our trip.

Good pictures and socio-cultural information, not too much in the way of practical travel tips.

2011 edition. Good history and cultural background, lots of info on Taipei but kind of light on the rest of the country. Not much to distinguish itself from other Taiwan travel books.

A beautiful overview, but better for pre-trip planning than to have on your person for the nitty gritty day-to-day affairs.

Some useful background information about Taiwan - useful for my upcoming trip. The book is high level and introductory, but I have other books to read for more details.
