Diamond Heart: Book Five: Inexhaustible Mystery

Rate this book
The final volume in A. H. Almaas' masterwork on the contemporary spiritual path known as the Diamond Approach

From one perspective, we can see ourselves merely as human beings struggling in a crowded and chaotic world of suffering.  Inexhaustible Mystery  opens our eyes to a different reality, one that turns our familiar world inside out. We need only explore—with curiosity and love—our true potential as human beings in order to discover infinite depth and creativity in our lives as we act and interact in the world. When time and space expand their meaning, we come to know ourselves as having infinite dimensions of being and qualities of spirit, and uncover new mysteries about ourselves, one another, and the reality we live in.

This is the last of the five-volume Diamond Heart series of transcribed and edited talks given by A. H. Almaas to inner-work groups in California and Colorado.

This is the last book in the Diamond Heart Series by Almaas. Like the rest it is a treasure of spiritual insight and "straight talk" about real transformation and living the truth one has realized (to whatever degree).

There is more of a focus on the heart dimension of realization and practice here than in the other heart books [ha]. I particularly found moving his exploration of the "poverty of the heart", as distinct from related ideas like nonattachment.

"You feel the poverty in the heart. You feel the pain of letting go of things you love. You experience the poverty of deep suffering and sorrow. It is not easy for the heart to let go and be poor. It lets go with a lot of pain, a lot of tears. ..When the impulse comes from the heart, there is some kind of surrender, of giving up, of learning a lesson after difficult and painful experiences" - p. 21

There is also a valuing of the word of form as the body of truth, as the manifestation of God. This allows Almaas to value both the transcendent and immanent aspects of truth and include ideas like the ever unfolding quality of realization and the evolution of the universe within his view.

Some might find particularly interesting his commentaries on some of Jesus's better known saying, including:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" and "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" both explored in Chapter 1.

Also "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." And
"I am the light of the World" both of which are explored in chapter 10

More generally ,I think, whatever ones specific genuine path towards Truth/God/ Realization, this book offers great/practical commentary and guidance on deepening realization along with living a genuine life which reflects this realization in our behavior and relationships.

"Human beings who really live the true life have to put themselves on the line. That's how our true resources come forth. Our true nature comes forth when we value truth above all else, when we live it." -p.235

I've personally found the whole heart series very valuable and return to them regularly for guidance and inspiration.

Of the five Diamond Heart books, this was my least favorite. Nothing wrong with the material, I just didn't resonate with some the esoteric chapters. The strength Almaas's writing is its application to everyday life. While some chapters were exactly that, there were plenty I skipped. Book 1 in the series is still my favorite.
