The key things I learned in this book are:
1) Goals must strike a balancing act between being too vague and too specific.
2) The employee should be involved in the process of goal setting. This way they will feel like they have a larger stake in the organization.
3) In process of reviewing performance goals the job of the manager is to act as a facilitator where the manager guides the employee on assessing their own performance.

What I didn't like about this book was that part 2 included sample phrases which can be used throughout the goal setting process.
Everything sounded like corporate speak.
