This was the textbook I used for my freshman Anthropology course, which I loved. My professor had done a year of fieldwork with the Iskut First Nations in northern British Columbia. He really knew his stuff and explained the material in the book in a way I found fascinating. I definitely learned a lot from this book, especially about the concept of eurocentrism and also the fact that the word "exotic" used to describe someone or something is generally a no-no. Great pictures and case studies in this book. I would say it's a good introduction to anthropology but it doesn't go too much into depth.
This was the textbook used for my Cultural Anthropology course. Though there were a number of things that were dated, overall, it was a good textbook. I learned a lot about the key concepts of cultural anthropology, the various roles of cultural anthropologists, and I found the cultural insights/ethnographic examples to include a wide variety of interesting and insightful information. The chapter summaries were concise and very useful for identifying key concepts to study more closely.
Гарне ілюстроване видання. Мінімум інформації, теоретична складова також на мінімалках. Пасує для вступу у тему, розуміння напрямів і далі вже можна шукати за бібліографією, яка у тексті цілком ок.
I have read several cultural anthropology textbooks for classes I teach and this is the worst I have encountered. Do not recommend, and would not use again if given the choice.
