Gray Vale Pack #2

His Wounded Warrior

Rate this book
One man has to break the rules… the other must discover who he truly is.

Braden Craig is a popular schoolteacher in Gray Vale, and unlike most wolf shifters, he’s one of life’s peacemakers. When old tensions rise in the newly merged pack, he’s quick to douse the flames. But nothing can cool the heat inside him when he locks eyes with the giant blond stranger who has become the target of some less than welcoming packmates’ aggression.

Tragedy pushed Marius Voss out of his so-called comfort zone in Stoke Ridge. After being forced to move to Gray Vale with his young son, and still recovering from life-altering injuries, he just wants to keep to himself and figure out his new life. He never expected to find an ally at all, let alone a man like Braden.

When fate plays a hand, and the two men find their lives intertwined, will they find a way to be together?

I liked this quite a bit. It was cute, a bit angsty, and just what I needed in the moment. There were multiple errors which is to be expected due to this being an arc but still, that's a personal pet peeve of mine. A solid 3.7 stars

I received an arc for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I really liked this book! Although there were moments that were a bit quick, the story progression still made sense. I do think this story could have benefited from a bit more exposition or at least more character-building for Marius. He is a pretty complex character so I would have loved to learn more about him and his past.

Overall, a pretty good, short, spicy read!

It's a little slow the first three chapters, short chapters which was ok. It's a 200 some page book so I had expected longer chapters with more descriptions. I couldn't visualize the town itself and the limited character interactions with the other townsfolk left things feeling a little shallow. Once the guys get together and have sex things pick up a bit. Though having the characters have a bunch of sudden realizations about themselves with little interaction between them like talking to each other made it all feel rushed and forced. The sex scenes are good and carry the book a bit which is both good and bad. The ending is satisfying and once the pace picked up around chapter 4 I overlooked a few things and was able to enjoy the story while reading it. The book is a good quick read and something to save when you just want something warm and quick to read.

Trying to start a new life

This is book 2 in the series Gray Vale Pack. This story is by a new to me author, Eve Riley. Although I didn't read book 1, I don't feel like I missed out on too much. I missed the part where the two competing packs combined into one. I'll have to read book 1 now to see what else I missed.

This is a story about a single father coming to terms with his; life, forced move, loss of job, and a son he recently obtained custody of after the death of his son's mother. While trying to figure all that out he meets the sweet male school teacher.

I read this book in one sitting and I enjoyed the fast pace and the interplay between characters.

School teacher/single parent, gay awakening, brings some heat.

This is book two of the Gray Vale Pack series and the main characters are wolf shifters Braden Craig, a school teacher in Gray Vale, and Marius Voss, originally from the opposing pack in Stoke Ridge, who has been forced to move to Gray Vale with his young son, Noah, in search of work after the two packs merged. Marius used to be a Guard in Stoke Ridge, and his size is intimidating to any that see him. He has only recently found out he had a son, from a woman he had a brief time with years before. He lost half his arm after being attacked by a bear shifter and is still recovering from these life altering injuries and to having a son in his life! With the merger of the very strictly run Stoke Ridge pack with the more liberal and open Gray Vale pack, Braden is asked to take the kindergarten class this year, as there will be a lot of young children having to get used to a new way of life, rather than his preferred second grade. He loves his job as a teacher and seeing the young faces as they learn, makes him enjoy what he does. He is lucky that Gray Vale is so liberal and his being gay is not an issue in the pack. Braden is a peacemaker in the pack, something very different to most shifters, who prefer to fight first, before talking! When the fair comes to town, Braden goes with a few friends and soon after arriving hears angry voices and can see a group of Gray Vale shifters crowding round a man he has never seen, but definitely couldn’t have missed, as he is huge! It is only as he gets into the midst of them all, that he sees a small boy holding tightly to the man’s leg and frightened out of his skin. Poor soul!

Braden does what he is best at and manages to get the situation defused, but not before a few nasty comments to Marius. Marius is amazed by Braden and how he gets his son to open up. They go around the fair together for a while, until they separate and he goes back to his friends. He had hoped that Marius would ask for his number, but realises that he is unlikely to be his kind of guy, especially if he has a son! Braden definitely felt an attraction towards Marius, but if he isn’t interested, there isn’t much he can do. He gets a shock when he finds Noah is one of the kids in his new kindergarten class, but being used to kids, he manages to get Noah to open up to him a lot easier than he does to Marius, who is still trying to find his feet as a father. Trying to avoid Braden and the feelings he seems to be getting for him, to concentrate on his son doesn’t work all that well after a while and the two get thrown back together again. Marius gets to figure out what he really wants in life and realises that different lifestyles are welcome in Gray Vale and not a problem. A school trip for Noah and his class soon turns dangerous and Marius must go against his usual nature and training to defuse the situation! Braden and Marius are brought ever closer and scenes get ever steamier as the two finally figure out they are fated mates and become their own small family. A lovely tale of acceptance and confidence building, with wee Noah growing out of his shell and getting used to having not just one father, but two, and loving it! Fated mates for a couple of male wolf shifters, where one never had no experience of such relationships, having been raised in a pack that didn’t accept such things. Acceptance is a huge part of this story! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I just couldn’t put this book down
Braden was a popular teacher in Gray Vale, he was a wall shifter who like to keep the peace. The pack was going through some changes due to joining with another pack that used to be the enemy called Stoke Bridge. Even though Braden was gay most of the women would flirt with him shamelessly. One day when there is a fair on he can hear arguing coming from the other side so he quickly goes over to the defuse the situation. He sees the sexiest man he’s ever seen. He must be from Stoke Ridge as he had never seen him before. And it is obvious what they’re arguing about as they were both in the guards and probably defended their packs. That is when he sees a little boy clinging to his leg.

Marius had moved from Stock Ridge to Gray Vale and it was a big change. There were two massive changes in his life one he found out he had a son from a woman he used to hook up with. The second thing was he lost his arm while fighting a bear shifter. And now he had these men in his face. But then a man came over and diffuse the situation. He went down on his knees and spoke to his son and offered to do a drawing of him like a comic. His relationship with his son was new and tense and scary. This young man called Braden seems to work his magic. Marius was quite confused about how he was taking in Braden. He had have never looked at a man with interest before. When Braden offered to help him settle in Marius nodded and then quickly walked off. It shouldn’t be a surprise when on the first day of Noah’s school he found out that he was going to be his sons teacher. He had really regretted not getting Braden’s number at the fair. They would interact in the mornings and when he picked up his son and Marius knew his attraction to him was getting stronger. When they gave In to the attraction everything changes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and just could not put it down . I absolutely adored Marius and his grumpiness but also The way he transformed to looking after his son Noah. I really enjoyed that he doesn’t see being attracted to a man as an issue he just saw Braden and knew that he wanted him. Braden is such a good guy the perfect boyfriend to have. He didn’t care that Marius had lost his arm he didn’t care that Marius came with a young son. Teaching Noah had been a blessing to see Little boy grow in confidence and start again in friends. And he already had serious feelings towards him. So being with Marius gave him that feeling of a family. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

This is the second book in the Gray Vale Pack series and the first one that I have read. I was able to enjoy this book without having first read book one. This is the story of Marius Voss and Braden Craig. This story takes place after the merging of the Stoke Ridge and Gray Vale. Marius is an above average sized man. He used to be a guard for the Stoke Ridge Pack. He has moved to Gray Vale to restart anew. He has lost part of his arm in a fight with a grizzly shifter. He is no longer able to do his job. Plus he is now responsible for a son he didn't know he had; Noah. Noah's mother has just died and poor Noah is with a man he doesn't know; even if it is his father. And Marius is trying to figure out how to go on as a new dad and unable to work at his old job. Braden is a school teacher and peacemaker. He has almost given up on finding his forever someone. The two meet when old grudges arise at the local fair. Using his talent for peacemaking, he invites Noah and Marius to his tent for a drawing and a welcome to Gray Vale. His manner even manages to calm Marius who is feeling overwhelmed with all the recent changes in his life. Noah ends up being in Braden's class so Marius and Braden continue to meet daily. Slowly their friendship grows. But can it be something more? This is their story. I found it to be well written and easy to read. I enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next book in this series.

His Wounded Hero is the next book in the Gray Vale Pack series. It is less ambitious in scope than book 1 but is all the better for it. There are no over-entitled characters of doubtful morals. Braden Craig is a teacher and something of a peacemaker or peacekeeper. He has the ability to defuse situations before they escalate. We are not talking magic as such, rather common sense, a willingness to listen and a big dollop of empathy and he is a good teacher to boot. It is these strengths that draws him to Marius Voss, widower, father, and ex-Stoke Ridge guard. Ex-guard as a result of losing an arm to a bear shifter attack. As Marius was a guard for the enemy pack from before the two packs merged, he has a target on his back when he moves to Gray Vale. He has more losses than the loss of an arm and an aggressive streak to deal with.

The two guys don’t know what to do with the attraction they feel but nature will out and they are soon trying to cope with more than attraction. Maruius’ young son Noah is both a consideration and an issue for both of them but an incident on a school outing may well resolve everything.

This is a romantic and thoughtful tale about wolf shifters and dealing with loss. It is entertaining and worth an evening or two's reading slot. It is also intelligent and considered in its approach.

Brayden is the town’s second grade teacher, gay, a wolf shifter, and a peacemaker.

Marius is also a wolf shifter, new to town, an ex guard since he lost part of his arm to a bear shifter, the biological father to his motherless son Noah, and a man not known for backing down from a challenge or a fight.

When Brayden notices Marius being harassed by some townspeople, he steps in to defuse the situation. He is drawn to the tall, quiet man and his son, and spends some time with them. Even though he would like to at least be a friend to Marius, he doesn’t see him again until the first day of school when Noah shows up in Braden’s kindergarten class, his new assignment this year. Pleased to see Marius and Noah, it is hard to control his wolf reaching out to Marius. As the two get closer together, it is not without problems, including the fact that Marius has always been straight. It takes a threat to Braden and Noah for Marius to accept his true feelings and for the three of them to get their HEA.

This is a short book with lovable characters: cheerful, artistic, peacemaker Braden; strong, brusque, grumpy Marius; and shy, adorable Noah. It is an interesting, enjoyable, satisfying read.

"I was probably the least qualified man on earth to raise a kid… but I was his only hope."

I really enjoyed this book and loved the characters. When I picked it up, I didn't realize it was also a bi-awakening, (a trope which I love), so that made it even better for me. I was really strongly drawn to Marius- a single dad taking care of his son after the child's mother died, and sporting a bad injury that had taken off his left arm below the elbow. I liked his personality and the vibe he put out. Things weren't going so great for him but he was doing his best for him and his son. Braden was a great match for him. He's observant, kind, patient, great with children, and knows how to diffuse tensions and keep the peace. He was immediately powerfully attracted to Marius and I couldn't wait to see how things would work out between them. A random quote that stood out to me that I really liked:

"Just ’cause we’re all shifters doesn’t mean we have to be animals about it.”
“You sure about that? Comes with the territory.”
“For some, maybe. Those who are all about the strength and not the senses. They hide the tongue behind the teeth.”

HIS WOUNDED WARRIOR is the second book in the Gray Vale Pack series but it can be read as a standalone.

Marius and his son, Noah, moved to Gray Vale after the amalgamation of his old pack, Stoke Ridge. Tensions are still high between the two packs which made itself known at the County Fair. Marius is rescued by a peacemaker and feels a connection he doesn't understand.

Time moves swiftly in this novella and I felt it could quite easily have been a full-length novel which would have given me the full backstory I wanted. This is a story of low self-confidence, of being unwanted, of being unable to connect no matter how hard you want to. Considering that, I felt this was a fairly low-angst book that left me with a smile on my face. Definitely recommended by me.

** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

My Review
I received a copy of the book from Book Sirens. The book is already out.
I'm back again with another book by Eve Riley. This is book two of the Gray Vale Pack series. I love Eve Riley's writing. I have been fortunate to review many of her books and have enjoyed them all. I really liked Braden, Marius and Noah and smiled right through the book. I will say that I felt more of a connection with Braden and Marius than I did with Gabe and Ethan from His Healing Heart, which is the third book in the series. Braden and Marius gelled from their first meeting to them being a couple made sense. Marius is a prickly person. Life has made him that way. He is trying to do right by his son while getting used to the new town he moved to. Braden is a ray of sunlight. A natural peacemaker, he is able to connect first with Noah and then Marius, getting him to open up and show people who he is on the inside. This book was a dose of sweetest and just want I needed right now. A nice, short (anything under 300 pages is short) read. Truly adorable read. Until next time, peace and happy reading.

Adjusting to Many Changes . . .

Marius Voss and Braden Craig find their lives intersecting. Braden is a well-liked teacher who is skilled in keeping pack tempers level. Marius is a former guard for another pack that merged with Braden’s pack. But injured by a bear, he endured partial loss of his arm and is still recovering. Now a single father to Noah after Noah’s mother died, this is all new to him. When there is some pack animosity at the local fair, Braden steps in and invites Marius and Noah to his tent to welcome them. When Noah is assigned to Braden's class at school, they all get to know each other even better. Will Marius and Braden recognize the attraction developing between them? Or will Marius not be ready for such a major change in his life along with all the other changes happening in his life?

The story is well-written and the characters are likable. Grab your copy and see if the future has a HEA for Braden, Marius, and Noah.

Braden is a sweet omega teacher in Gray Vale. Marius is an alpha who lost his limb while on duty and is now living in Gray Vale after their packs merged. Braden, being the peacemaker he is, steps in when some people were giving Marius a hard time. When it turns out that Marius’ son is one of Braden’s new students and they interact more, sparks fly. A tentative friendship develops into something more and they become a family and get their HEA.

I really loved this book. It was well-written and the MC’s had good chemistry together. You could tell that Marius had a hard time accepting help when it came to his son, but I was so glad when he let himself become vulnerable and let Braden in. My heart was breaking for him, but I was so glad that with Braden’s help, he was able to heal his hidden scars. Braden was such a strong and loving omega. It was no wonder that Noah reacted so well to him. All in all, it was a great story and well worth the read.

This was a good mm romance and I thought that both characters were interesting but especially Marius. I would have liked to hear even more about him and his past because he definitely had a sense of mystery around him and, to an extent, his accident too. Braden was sweet but also very determined and he definitely fought for what he wanted. Together they made a cute family unit and I thought the wider plot was interesting and fitting for the characters. Would I have liked it to be a bit longer with more characterisation? A bit. However, they had amazing chemistry, there were some very steamy scenes and it had a wonderful HEA. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series and I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a short mm shifter romance.

This is the second book in the MM shifter series and can be read as a standalone.

Jena Wade described the emotiins and surroundings in this story so well. I felt this was a quick to love story with likeable characters. Marius finsing his way in a new pack and creating and byilding a new life with his son Noah. Braden gentle spirited artist and teacher gives encouragement and trust to both Noah and Marius. He and Marius find way more than expected and Marius is finsing it hard to accept he found his mate. There is steam and a slight of kink in this well crafted story which has a hea for the newly formed family.

Marius has lost part of his arm, his job, and been forced to relocate to Gray Veil. He has his son, Noah but they are strangers to each other. Braden is a teacher, very good at his chosen job and has so much empathy that he can’t help but connect to Noah and Marius. The beginning of the book was sad. The damaged wolf shifter and his son pulled heartstrings.

This was a novella so it went really fast. If the characters were human I’d call it instalove. Even though it was a quick read, it was a complete story with all the elements needed to make it enjoyable. I like this authors work and will continue to look for their books.

Together they help each other in ways they never thought possible and with little Noah, life is even better. At the local fair Braden encounters Marius and his son Noah and is drawn to him.
School teacher and wolf shifter Braden avoids the single mothers of those he teaches as he has no interest in females. A the local fair he calms down a group bullying a new comer to town and notice his young son is cowering by his side. To try and cheer the child up he gets Noah to sit and let him do a caricature of him. As he look at Marius he finds his interest rousing despite the injury to his arm. Then Noah starts in his Kindergarten class.

Absolutely feel good story. Brayden, is a wolf schoolteacher who likes peace. Marius, is new to town with his young son, Noah. He tries to keep his head down, but some townspeople just won't let him. He lost a lot in his previous life. He is trying to get to know and do right by Noah. He's curious about his attraction to Brayden. Brayden, is absolutely wonderful with Noah. You read the story adoring the characters, especially Noah and thinking good thoughts and hoping for a satisfying HEA. Good flow, excellent characters, even the jerks. Well done! If you read the first book, which is also very good, you learn about the Gray Vale Pack & Stone Ridge Pack conflict. In book 1 the 2 MC's were male & Stone Ridge did not believe in same sex matings. This causes a conflict which stops the consumation of 2 packs joining. This book is Braden a schoolteacher in the Gray Vale pack & Marius from Stone Ridge. Marius joins Gray Vale with his young son after his wife passes away. There's an instant connection between Braden & Marius but because of Stone Ridge laws, Marius is a little late in the admitting l like him stage. Braden doesn't give up, just goes with the flow to a happy ending. Looking forward to book 3.

I didn't know Eve Riley before this book. I didn't read the first one in the serie, but I don't think I've missed anything. It's a low angst, PNR MM book. There is really little if not none whatsoever drama. I'm knew to reading PNR stuff and every author has their spin on it. This one was good. Small community of wolf and accepting of gay man. This stories was not just a shifter romance but a human one as well. If you're knew to PNR, this book can start your journey.

Braden taught second grade and gave life drawing lessons but was told he had to teach kindergarten the next year. Marius had lost part of his left arm below the elbow in a fight with a bear shifter and just got his son when the mother was killed in a car accident. Braden was doing caricatures at a fair when he made 4 men leave Marius alone then got to talking a little with him and son, his wolf wanted Marius. He had Noah in his class but him and Marius had a night his wolf marked Braden then backed away from Braden. But it worked out after a bear shifter was taken care of. Good book!

This was a really good book. I really enjoyed Braden and Marius together. These two are drawn to each other after Braden helps a situation that Marius was involved in. Neither one really tried to fight their attraction, just trying to figure them out while trying to figure out where they belong in life and in their new combined pack. This was a the second book in this series and I hope we get more soon.

Single father Marius moves to Grey Vale from the neighbouring pack when his sons mother dies and he can no longer work as an enforcer. He gets into an altercation in the town square with the pack enforcers when Brayden comes to his rescue. Brayden is a peacemaker and calms the situation, he’s also Marius’s fated mate. Sweet, steamy romance with amazing chemistry, a little danger, some misunderstandings and miscommunication and a wonderful HEA.

Braden and Maruis' story is second book in the Gray Vale Pack series. It is a good read that pulls you in from the start.

Braden is a teacher and thought to be a peace maker. Marius is a single dad, whose life has been thrown into turmoil when he and son had to move Gray Vale while recovering from losing part of his arm.

Braden and Maruis's tale take you on ride of danger, trouble, understanding and realization about oneself. It was a take that had me not wanting to put it down.

This is a wonderful world. It just comes alive before your eyes. I could visualize everything and everyone so clearly. It was easy to become fully invested in the lives of the characters. It has it all: compassion, passion, past trauma, fresh starts, humor, unbridled joy, and love. There is also a threat, but no violence. Ooh, and sexy times and an adorable little boy. You aree simply gonna love this book!

Braden is a school teacher in Gray Vale and very popular. During the country fair he had his art booth set up and heard a disturbance. Recently members of Stoke Ridge have moved into Gray Vale. Being somewhat of a peacemaker Braden wander over to see what was going on. Marius and his son Noah originally from Stoke Ridge moved to Gray Vale to start over after tragic events. This is a story of friendship, love, commitment and just being accepted as you are.

This is another great book to read about shifters! This book was a real page turner! Braden is a second grade school teacher who comes to the rescue of a single parent. Marius is a single parent trying to raise his son since his mothers death. Will Braden get what he is looking for??? Will Marius get the help he needs????.
