This collection of aerial photos by renowned photographer Colin Baxter provides a special and unique perspective of a land of many contrasts and great beauty.
I am not particularly familiar with the geography of Scotland, having only visited the country three times (twice for cricket and once for book buying!) but I do know that one can fit 100 Scotlands into Australia. So it is relatively small in comparison! However, these tremendous aerial shots of the country make Scotland look like a huge wilderness full of mountains, lochs and castles.
Colin Baxter presents an introduction to the geography of the country as he travels by air over a wide variety of environments from lowland to highland, city centre to mountain top, coastline to island. It is a veritable eagle's view of a rich and diverse land.
Lochs, rivers and sea abound, as do mountains, castles and city centres, the last named even looking quite fascinating in themselves for they present nothing like the exciting country that the other features do. The only photograph that leaves me completely cold in the entire book is one of the M8 motorway at Townhead, Glasgow but one can quickly dismiss this from the memory by referring to, for instance, The Storr, Trotternish, Isle of Skye.
It is a visually pleasing book with a brief travelogue of Baxter's journey included in the informative introduction.
