The novella Pull the Trigger is a short and sweet piece about 25 year-old librarian Bec, recently divorced, and finding love with her high school crush Justin. If you want short, simple, and let’s get right to it, this book is for you.

I generally do not like novellas, unless it’s about characters I’ve already grown attached to from novels. It is hard to get a feel for the characters and the plot always seems so rushed because of the length of a novella. I find it too limiting to truly enjoy. That being said, as a novella, Pull the Trigger isn’t bad. I did feel rushed to get the characters in play. I did feel like I was being told the main character’s past, rather than led and it didn’t feel natural to read. Again, this may be my personal preference for being led into a story and being shown rather than told events or things about the character.

The intimacy is hot in this book. There is an attraction between Bec and Justin. After the reader gets over the rushed feeling and now knows all the past that leads up to where the novella is meant to start, you can relax and enjoy the relationship the two of them begin to build. If you like a relationship to unfold and build to intensity, there isn’t time in this novella. The two quickly “get to business” and grow into loving each other within a two week time span. In these two weeks, Justin learns a lot about Bec’s sexual problems with her ex-husband, and Bec learns something that deeply affected Justin in a previous relationship. The tension in the plot is Bec has agreed to take her dream job in another state just as she is finding Justin. The dilemma is will what they have meant to each other the past two weeks be enough to keep her from leaving?

Short, sweet, and to the point. I personally think this could have been a much better novel, fleshing out the characters, leading the reader through the ups and downs of adultery, divorce, betrayal, hope, crushes, excitement, finding new love, discovery, and really making us care about Bec and Justin, what they mean to each other. The main characters are very likable and Justin is a great leading man. The intimacy would still be hot, the plot the same, but the experience for the reader could be relished and so much sweeter for it. I read on Goodreads from another review that this is the first in a series about the small town it takes place, Memory Grove. Whether this is an opener to more Bec and Justin, or a series of more novellas with different characters, I don’t know.

If you are a novella fan, this is one of the better ones I have read. Once the rushed telling of the past is over, the author gets into a nice flow and style. But, if you are a fan of novels, with all that comes along with investing in characters and their plight, this is probably not be for you.

Caveat: My rating is based on my experience with other novellas, not novels.

What a sweet love story! Bec has a loser husband and they get divorced. She meets Justin and they fall head over heals for each other. I am not going to reveal much more than that.
Melissa shares the characters' lives in a very awesome way. You don't even realize that you are getting snippets of their pasts. She does it like real life.
Sometimes in my day a smell or a sound or a song will remind me of my (not too great) past. At least most of the things I remember are not too great. And I have to force myself not to dwell upon the past because it can never be undone.
This is how Melissa gives us the past of her characters. Another way she does it is when a life situation arises and it needs to be explained.
The end is great. I am so glad that Bec realized what she was doing and changed her mind.
This is a must read.

What an adorable story. Rebecca is a strong woman, but because of her marriage and how it ended, questions everything about herself. Enter Justin. Mmm sweet and yummy. The high school hunk she had a crush on, turned amazingly gorgeous cop. Can you ask for anything more? The spark between them is instantaneous and thank God Justin is alpha enough to take control of the situation because Rebecca never would have thought he was interested in her. Once their love affair begins it's no holds barred. Justin and Rebecca are hot together. The ending is heartbreaking and just when I thought they wouldn't have their HEA.. it all changes.

I can't wait to read through this sweet series of books.

likable characters, hot, steamy sex, and a decent storyline. I really liked Justin and Rebecca. Bec is coming off a nasty divorce to a no good cheating, emotionally abusive man. Justin is a cop, and has past issues of his own. They went to high school together and Becca always had a crush on Justin. Sparks fly, and the relationship blossoms.

Short and easy Novella

Pull the Trigger is the 1st book in a series by Melissa Ecker about Memory Grove. It introduces us to the small town, along with two of it's residents Rebecca and Justin.

Rebecca works at the local libray and is newly divorced. She married her first love, or so she thought. As the story progresses, we see how he knocked her self image down over the years they were married. She is not confident about herself or her abilities, she has a poor self image of her self and very low self esteem. All that changes when she decides to take the chance and go to dinner with Justin.

Justin is a police officer in the small town. Everyone knows everyone's business so he isn't surprised when he stops Rebecca and she tells him about her husband. After her divorce is final, he runs into her at the liquor store and asks her to dinner, not knowing where the dinner invitation would lead them.

Rebecca can't believe that Justin really is interested in her. Her self esteem has been so damanged by Tim she thinks he's just going out with her because he feels sorry for her. As they get to know each other, Justin slowly helps her see that Tim was the one with the issues not her.

Justin was popular in school but has never married, he was waiting for the "one" to come along. He's had his share of romances but no one he wanted to settle down with. There is an instant connection with Rebecca that he never expected but she is moving in two weeks.

Both of the main characters are very easy to relate to becauese they have real problems. They are complex and intersting and I wanted to read more about them. I was instantly pulled into the story and agreed with Justin, Tim needed to be shot for the things he did to Rebecca. I hated to see her so down on herself but loved seeing her regain her self confidence and independence.

The airport scene was one of my favorites, it was beautifully written and very touching. I loved the fact that Justin wasn't afraid to show his softer, more vunerable side. The sex scenes were steamy and you could feel the connection between the two of them.

Overall I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the other two in the series. All three books will be released through Lazy Day Publishing in December. Visit Melissa's website at http://www.melissaecker.com/ for more information about this series.

Overall I give Pull the Trigger 4 Flaming Hearts.

Pull the Trigger is the 1st book in the series Memory Grove. Rebecca is newly divorced. She thought she married her first love, but come to find out he was knocking down her self image. As the story progresses, we see how he knocked her self image down over the years they were married. Taking a chance is what she is looking for and accepts Justin's invite to dinner.

Justin is a police officer in this small town where everyone knows everything about one another. He was popular in school. Now come to find out he has a connection with Rebecca and the only problem with that is well, she will be leaving in two weeks.

I totally fell in love with Justin. He was goodhearted and very patient with Rebecca in helping her move past her issues. Adoring them as a couple is a understatement, their characters just jump out at you. They were interesting and I would love to read more about them. You just can't help yourself to be sucked in.The airport scene was one of my favorites and it jumps out at you. It was so romantic.

Ecker takes you on a journey of giving a second chance at love. Romantic, steamy and very enjoyable read. I am keeping my fingers crossed that in her other books we get a chance to check back in on their lives. I loved how the story came together so perfectly. Who could ask for more? Wait, I can because I can't wait to read the two other books in this hot series.

What a nice way to start my day, reading a short hot romance between the "geeky" librarian and the "hot" cop who inspired many lustful fantasies when they were growing up!
Nice to see those fantasies of Rebecca's come to life as she and Justin finally connected after Rebecca finalized her divorce from her two-timing husband.
This less than 100 page novella had exactly what I needed to start the day smiling!

I cannot express how much I loved this book...this series! Because yes, I ate up 3 of the 4 within a few hours, that also tells you how short these stories are.

I wanted more! So much more! I was happily surprised when I found the BDSM elements in there.....exactly how I like it ;) When Luke suddenly grabbed her neck and slammed into the wall? Oh my! Be still my heart.

Review coming soon! I started reading this book last year and put it down after a couple of chapters. Over the weekend, I needed something that was quick, hot and steamy to read. I started to read this story again and loved it!
