This review was originally posted on As Told By TinaI received this book for free from Hot Tree Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Fictional-ish was a book I was looking forward to because I am a huge sucker for the friends to lovers trope. Fictional-ish was not what I was expecting and I’m still not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Fictional-ish is centered around Livie and Kyle. They have been best friends for ages and Livie has always had feelings for Kyle but has never acted on them until he decides to marry her enemy. I did find the whole enemy thing to be a little childish. However, I did find this to have a good twist to it.

Livie ends up moving to Scotland to open up a bookstore and Kyle ends up following to “interview her”. I had a lot of trouble with this story because I absolutely loved Livie but I hated Kyle. I am team ANYBODY but Kyle. I felt like because he started off on the wrong foot it was going to be really hard to actually redeem himself. I couldn’t like him at all. I also didn’t feel like his feelings for Livie were real.

Livie on the other hand was truly a sweet character and a bit too naïve for me. But overall, I really wanted her to win and be happy. I think she deserved better than Kyle because I honestly felt like he just wasn’t a good guy.

The story was told in both Kyle and Livie’s point of views and I usually love this but there was some confusing parts such as a scene would happen in Kyle’s chapter but then we’d get it again in more detail in Livie’s so I found myself just skimming those parts.

Overall, this was a quick and easy read and although I personally wasn’t a fan of the romance, I think others would like it.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I enjoyed every minute of it. I love a good friends to lovers but this talented author exceeded all my expectations. I was hooked on this storyline from page one. I could not help but to fall in love with these characters. It only took me a few hours to devour this incredible book.

Livie Dunn has been in love with her best friend since grade school. Kyle and her were inseparable until he met her. Mia and Livie hate each other. They are well known enemies. Livie always thought that one day Kyle would see the feelings she had for him but when Kyle tells her that he is marrying Mia she knew it would never be the same. Livie decides she needs a new start so she leaves and follows her dreams as a bookstore owner. She is now living her dream in a small town. Livie has a new life but when Kyle shows back up in her life things start to get very complicated. Will Livie get her happily ever after or will she continue just being only a friend?

I absolutely loved this book. The storyline has it all romance, heartbreak, and forgiveness. You will fall in love with these characters right from the beginning. Livie is a beautiful woman that loves her books. She has always loved Kyle and all she wants is for him to be happy. Kyle is very handsome with a heart of gold. All he wants is to find the right woman for him. This talented author will keep you at the edge of your seat until the end. I can’t wait to see what she will write about next.

I'll be honest and say although I did enjoy myself I wasn't blown away. And the main reason is Kyle. If he were my BFF I'll cut him out of my life and wouldn't even blink.

But despite my anger towards him at the beginning of this story he did kinda grow on me. I mean he flew half way across the globe to be with Livie so there's that. I adored Livie. She was strong, sassy and had a big heart.

I'm giving it a -4* because I just can't look completely the other way from how Kyle acted in the beginning of the book.

Fictional-ish (ARC) was graciously provided to me by Hot Tree Promotions for an honest review. I have voluntarily read this book and have provided my honest opinion.

  "A Gripping and Heart-Warming Read.."

A heart-breaking and gripping read had this reader on a ferris wheel of thoughts and emotions throughout most of this new read.  Between moments filtered with gushy heart-shaped eyes to moments with an over-whelming need to seriously have an eye-opening discussion with some of the characters, to wanting to take a quick trip to Scotland and Australia, this new story was one that kept me on my toes.

When I first came across an upcoming release from an author who I had read before, and LOVED, I practically fangirled upon seeing this new book predicting and hoping that it would be equally great.  Hope being an operative word here..  What I did find is that this story has many different components each of which had me on the proverbial fence as I read this new story.

Fictional-ish, by Natalina Reis, is a very interesting story with an interesting storyline, a gripping, lengthy and varied plot, a beautiful setting, and, plentiful characters.

As mentioned briefly, this is an interesting and somewhat thought-provoking story.  It's title very interestingly ties in with the storyline in ways that had this reader needing to stop frequently and allow it's connection to soak in to a somewhat buzzing mind.  Regardless, I was really on the fence as I read through this story.  While there were many moments when I had melted, as the storyline and a few of the characters were just wonderful as they wore their hearts on their sleeves, who I needed to squeeze-hug tightly, right along others who meant well, and then..then there was a copious amount of moments when the characters just got on my last nerve, who..just need to grow the heck up.  #Justsayin

Despite gravitating towards this story for the beautiful cover, thinking its storyline revolved around love and a bookstore, it is in this reader’s opinion, that it is only a part of the plot..despite having such beauty to it.  In all honesty, much of this story is about the affects of a clingy, verbally abusive, horribly vindictive, spiteful young woman and those who are affected by her antics.

That all being said, despite having for some reason, a somewhat difficult time with the writing, as there were many confusing moments due to either a need for more depth, development or even for clarification, it is still a uniquely heart-warming story that I was so glad for its HEA that despite the need for more of an ending, I still enjoyed it as a whole. :)

This book was enjoyable to read. I have not checked out Natalina Reis before, but this book drew me in from the first chapter. I was graciously provided an ARC but am writing my honest opinion on the book.

The cover on this book, that combined with the blurb and the name (which I love) had me automatically signing up to receive an ARC to help promote this book and I am really glad that I did!

It was an extremely interesting read and seemed a fresh new take on the friends to lovers sub genre of Romance. It was clear from the very beginning that Kyle and Livie have something extremely special and it was really freaking crappy of him to marry someone that was her nemisis. This was one of the main things that rubbed me a little wrong about this book, that seems really freaking wrong.

Well, she evidently agrees with me and took this as a massive bomb and when a situation arose to move to Scotland for her firm, she agrees and escapes her family, friends, and even frenemy.

I do like how things play out and Livie and Kyle have a wonderful connection. This book is definitely worth a read and while I was not super happy about how Kyle hurt Livie, I know that had a huge part to play in the overall story and actually made me feel more emotions that some other books out there so kudos to Natalina for that!

I give this 4 outta 5 stars!

Kyle and Livie had been best friends since they were young. Livie was setting up Kyle's stag night, everything would have been OK if he wasn't marrying Livie's worst nightmare Mia. Livia and Mia were BEF (Best Enemies Forever) again since they where very young. Mia came from an affluent family where money no object, Livie an only child from normal hard working parents, but Mia always seemed to be jealous of everything that Livie had. Now she has the ultimate prize Livie's best friend. Livie got very drunk at the stag night and let out her inner most secret, that she Loved Kyle more than just friends. Kyle chose to ignore it as she was so drunk, but the next day at the wedding, nothing was going right down to the brides dress being ruined by spilt drink. Mia decided to postpone the wedding as she took this as an omen. Livie was relieved and thought that Kyle would come to his senses and see Mia for what she was. But after a couple of weeks they got married. Livvie was not staying around this time. The book is set in Australia and Livie took a job as part owner of a book/coffee shop in Scotland UK. It wasn't long before Kyle came to his senses and realised that Mia didn't love him and where he had gone very wrong. Now it was time to try and sort this mess of a life he had out.

The book is a very enjoyable read and even though not action packed I was still hooked wanting to know what was going to happen next.

A great read about friendship. Kyle and Livie have been best friends since they were little kids. But when Kyle wants to marry her lifelong enemy, Mia, their friendship is put to the test. When it becomes too much, Livie pushes him away and goes to run a bookstore in Scotland. By the time Kyle realises his mistake, it may be too late. Can he fix his mistake and get his friendship back?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn't put down. Well developed characters like Livie following her dream despite her feelings or Kyle as a good friend but also struggling to find happiness. Great cast of supporting characters like the fun friend Jenny or the supportive and honest Liam. A great villain in Mia as relatable and cruel.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the wedding full of life and people with the music and the lilacs full of sound and smells. Or the bookstores sense of a small haven with the homely feel with shelves of books and coffee bar with its soft and colourful furnishings perfectly written. Or the magical sense of the fairy lights by the lake under the moon, making it feel like of another world away from the reality of the situation. I also loved the nature of Scotland with its language and culture and food and people given the respect it deserves and also giving the novel a sense of character and humour. The switch between perspectives worked well to display both sides of events and was easy to follow with names in chapter titles. Overall, a great read and I would give it five stars.

Man, this book had me all kinds of jacked throughout the journey. See, Kyle and Livie were perfect for each other, but they were best friends, so he ended up marrying her enemy, which really had me all kinds of pissed off, and I'm still not over it to be honest. I'm not one who gets over things easily or even quickly so that was unforgivable in my opinion, especially since he was aware of how she felt. Now, I know it was part of the story line, with all of the angst filled moments, but still, I'm not over it. So I was totally on board with her moving to Scotland for her job, and I prayed that she would meet some yummy Scotsman, and forget all about Kyle. Unfortunately for my state of mind, their connection was too strong for my dream, so the journey took a different turn, and Natalina Reis went a different direction. I know I know, not my baby, but my heart still hurts, so I'm bitter, but I guess you could say that this original story was something that definitely is worth the read since I'm so heavily invested in that I'm still all kinds of emotional. So, you know what to do, and that's one click this baby so I can see all of your feelings about Kyle in reviews, as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Fictional-ish to ALL!

Livie has been in love with her best friend Kyle for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately he is marrying her life long nemesis Mia. She can no longer stand to be around to witness their relationship so moves to Scotland to run a book shop.

Mia is spoilt, obnoxious, mean and controlling and it becomes apparent quickly that the relationship she has with Kyle is not all it seems and he tries to disentangle himself and follow Livie.

I struggled to understand how Kyle ended up with Mia given the strong friendship between Kyle and Livie and Kyle knowing how Livie feels towards Mia, which had me struggling a bit to get into this book. I loved the relocation to Scotland and the book shop principle that led Livie there. I love Kyle when he is with Livie - he comes alive. I hate how he is with Mia as he is timid and down trodden and just struggling to find his place. Mia has been controlling him and the realisation for him is hard for him to comprehend and accept. Livie is such a sweetheart and will help even her worst enemy if they need it. Kyle and Livie really seem to belong together.

Fictional-ish
By: Natalina Reis
5 out of 5 stars

The story Fictional-ish by Natalina Reis is a wonderful romantic comedy that I loved reading. It drew me in from the beginning and I found myself lost in the story. I loved reading about the characters of Livie and Kyle. They are best friends. Livie is in love with Kyle and has always hoped that he would realize this. Then Kyle marries her childhood nemesis, Mia. Heartbroken Livie is moving on and this includes moving to Scotland and opening a bookstore. What will happen when Kyle’s married life derails? Will he turn to Livie and hope for forgiveness? There is still an attraction and chemistry between them. They can’t stop thinking about each other. Is that enough to restart their love? What does the future hold for Livie and Kyle? Read this book to find out. This story is humorous, romantic, and fun to read. You can’t help but care about Livie and Kyle and want them to be happy. There are lighthearted moments and also ones that made me wonder what was going to happen next. Don’t miss out on a story that will have you turning pages all the way to the end. Highly recommended reading.

Fictional-ish: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Natalina Reis

5 Stars

Love a good friends to lovers romance and this one was a bit different as it spanned many miles and much time apart and hurdles that made this story unique.

Scotland has always been somewhere I want to visit someday and this book took me there and made me feel as if I was there. Livie moved there to open a new bookstore and she had everything, well almost everything..She left her best friend who in her mind betrayed her beyond repair and as she tried to build a new life Kyle and the hurt he caused her was never far from her mind.

I loved this story, every part of it..I even loved to despise Mia and cant help it but I fell head over heels for Cal and cant help but hope that just maybe this author will let this story continue and let Cal and even Jenny have their own stories.

This is not my first book by this author and absolutely will not be my last. I love the way her words flow and grab a hold and not let go till the very last page.

I highly recommend this story and really anything by this author.

Loved it!!

My goodness I am torn about this book! First of all I love Natalina Reis and all of her books so when I saw this new friends to lovers book with the gorgeous cover I jumped right in without so much as a second glance or blink at the blurb. I truly wanted to love this book and ultimately I did enjoy it, but I just didn’t love it. I had the absolute hardest time wanting to give Kyle a chance from the moment he married the Livie’s enemy. Let’s face it ladies, most of us are not going to put up with that kind of childish and petty behavior no matter how good the love and reasoning is behind it. So I suppose, once I swallowed my opinions and gave the story line a chance I was able to appreciate this as a new twist to an age old love equation such as friends to lovers. My love for Livie’s personality also kept me reading to find out what all she would take and not take. While this was not my favorite of Ms. Reis’ s novels I still find the writing and the ability to keep me reading keeps this at a strong four star read. I will be back for more for sure and am anxious to see what will be next from Natalina Reis.

This is the second book by Natalina I have read. This book was different than the books I normally read. I enjoyed it. Livie and Kyle have been friends for so long, best friends in fact. Then Kyle goes and marries Livie's worst enemy, Mia. Mia and Livie have been at odds since they were little kids. Livie has her suspicions about why Mia would want anything to do with Kyle. Mia has always tried to take what was Livie's. Going after Kyle is a step to far though. Livie can't stay and watch the love of her life be with her enemy. Kyle had no idea that Livie wanted more from their friendship. One choice changes everything for both of them. Sometimes the love of out life is right in front of us and we can't see it. Kyle marring Mia changes more than just his friendship with Livie. This book was a good read. There is a fair amount of angst. Kyle learns that not everything is as it seems and finds himself in some interesting situations. Livie is a great character. I enjoyed all the characters in this book. I look forward to reading more book by Natalina in the future.

Fictional-ish: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Natalina Reis is a friends to lovers romance and I am still not sure how i feel about it. I enjoyed it, but it is not one of my favourites from Natalina. It was and easy read but I really wanted to smack some sense into both Livie and Kyle the main characters and I really didn’t warm to them easily.

Livie’s best enemy has treated her like hell all their lives and always wanted what Livie had. The one thing that meant the most to Livie is the one thing that her best enemy took with no care for her actions nor others feelings. Livie’s heart is broken when her best friend picks another over her and takes a job out of the country hoping to heal.

Kyle is getting married to his best friends enemy and has lost his best friend and the one person who really loves him but being a typical man he thinks with his other head. When things get bad he takes a chance to reach out to the one person who had always stood by him.

It is an interesting read had had some funny moment and a few sad ones but once I was able to put aside my thoughts on the main characters it wasn’t to bad. I am waiting to see what comes next for Natalina.

This is an great story! I enjoyed reading it. There are a ton of ups and downs and a couple times I wasn’t sure everything was going to turn out alright. The story held my interest and I love the easy going writing style of this author. The characters were fun and lovely. If I could only get that Scottish or Australian accent right in my head it would be perfect! Livie is the star of the book. Her secret love/best friend has just decided to marry her worst enemy. I think Livie does the right thing by moving to another place. That would be the fastest way to accomplish recovery. Sadly everything she is running from....follow her to Scotland. So now she really has to figure out how to deal with her problems. Jenny was a great secondary character. (Well Cal too) I loved how she is always there and avail to help Livie whether it’s business or personal. Yet she never overstepped those boundaries.
Another amazing story by Natalina Reis.

This is my first book by this author and the blurb pulled me right in. I'm a sucker for a friends to lovers story, especially when one of them has to work for it. Turns out, no one had to work for this one at all.
Livie was solid in the beginning and I wasn't a big fan of Kyle, b/c I mean, who dates and marries someone you KNOW your bestie HATES? So he had an uphill battle where I was concerned b/c either you think your BFF is a drama queen or you don't care what she thinks. Not much of a friend, either way by his rationale.

But even after everything, Kyle never earned Livie's love in my opinion. And she was very immature when it came to him, treating him more like a child than the man she loves. The first 30% reeled me right in but I'm sorry to say that I had to push to finish the story.

The writing was solid but Livie and Kyle were borderline unbearable.

I am a big fan of this author and was excited to read a rom com written by her.

This is a story that "on paper" checks all of my boxes. The blurb was right up my alley. In fact it felt oddly familiar as this happened to a couple of friends of mine.

I struggled with this book for a couple of reasons but if I told you why, I would be giving things away so I am going to "vague post" this review....

Don't you hate when you hear that someone had really bad timing when admitting something and then expected things to turn into the fairytale? Me too. BEFs are real y'all.

This is a well written story and even though i found both MCs super annoying at times. The supporting characters were wonderful and i loved their support and encouragement.

I must admit that I read this story in accents - both Scottish and Australian and my accents are horrible. Lol

Fictional-ish: A Friends to Lovers Romance is the first book I have read by Natalina Reis. It was a cute romantic comedy that I enjoyed. The story line was pretty predictable, but still had cute parts to stand apart from the rest. Two best friends, that finally realize they are in love. Well, Livie always knew, Kyle just took a decade or two to realize it. I always hate the parts of stories where someone gets emotional and jumps to conclusions, just to realize they blew things out of proportion. So aside from that scene, I liked the book. It has a lot of funny parts, and good supporting characters. The chemistry between Livie and Kyle, and their friends was great. The unique details to this story make it stand out from other stories of similar plot. But for the most part, we know how the story is going to end. I will read more by the author.

Fictional-ish by Natalina Reis is a romantic comedy. This story is the epitome of the story of friends and life shifts the dynamic of their relationship, whether for better or worse. I found the opening scenes in this story to be wonderfully set and certainly the right essence to pull the reader into the story to find out what happens to the characters as they progress chapter to chapter. Kyle and Livie had such a fun friendship/relationship in this story and I loved the creative ways the author drove into that. However, no story is ever easy and there is definitely drama and unexpected events that occur that shift the story in a direction no one anticipated. Grab this story and delve into whether Kyle and Livie's friendship can survive or if everything will be left behind.

Fictional-ish: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Natalina Reis is a book I just fell in love with. I knew right from the moment I read the description that this book was going to be good, and knowing this author I knew her work to always be well done. But this book really has to be my favourite one I have read by her so far.
I loved that it had a basis in Scotland. Being from the UK I felt like that detail really helped me to connect more with the characters and the stories.
And let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to run away to an “exotic” country to open a book shop?
Kyle and Livie were brilliant characters. I found myself really hoping they would find a way.
This book was well written, it had great pace and I found myself devouring it one sitting. I would highly recommend this book.

This is a lovely story of romance, betrayal and realising love was in the one place you didnt think to look.

Livie and Kyle have been friends since school, although they both felt love for each other but never acted upon it.

Fast forward and Kyle is set to marry Livie's worst enemy, a decision which leaves her heartbroken and devestated, so when the opportunity comes up to move to Scotland and run her own bookstore she jumps at the chance.
Realising that he has messed up Kyle jumps on a plane to make things right and confess his love but with his ex wife still clinging on to him its not going to be a smooth journey.

Its a book full of romance and proves that if love is meant to be it will find a way

I loved this book! This is one of my favorite authors as her story are well written and creative. Her characters bring the story to life and make me feel as if I am part of their world. This book is no different. It is a romance story about two best friends. Livie thought they would find a way to each other. But when Kyle marries her best friend, things come crashing down. Now Livie and Kyle are worlds apart but will there be some forgiveness in their future to find their HEA? A must read!

Fictional-ish by Natalina Reis is a sweet friends to Lovers romance. Sometimes you don't know what you have right in front of you until it's too late and gone.

Livie and Kyle's story is sweet even with the bumps in the road they have to deal with. They have known each other since they were little and have been inseparable since, that is until Kyle is an idiot.

As much as I loved Kyle and Livie I think I loved Jenny just a little more. She made me laugh or smile several times.

I would love a follow up or to see Jenny end up with her own story. I think that would be a great story to read.

A lovely romantic comedy based around two people, Kyle and Livie. Livie has always been in love with her long time best friend Kyle, but has never let him know how she truly feels. After Kyle marries the one and only person Livie despises, she decides to move to Scotland and open a bookstore.

A good fast paced read set in Scotland. I found it hard to follow through some parts, but after getting through those it was a good read. Although, I never truly connected with Kyle, I fell in love with Livie.

Fictional-ish: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Natalina Reis is a sweet story. Livie and Kyle have been the best of friends since primary school but Kyle's marriage has created a problem. Livie has had an enemy in Mia since they were young and now Kyle has married her. Livie is offered the chance to not only move but also open a new bookstore and jumps at the opportunity. Will Kyle figure out Livie loves him and as more than a friend?
This is a sweet romantic story. The characters are relatable and I like the story is told from both point of views. I also enjoyed the Scottish setting. This was a fun story to read and I'm glad I picked it up.

Fictional-ish puts a new spin on friends to lovers. I really enjoyed Livie and her strong personality. She stepped out of her comfort zone and left everything she knew behind to start her dream. I honestly don't like Kyle. Him and Livie fit really well together but the whole marrying her enemy was too much for me. I just don't understand how a best friend can do that.
Overall, it's a cute and fun romcom read!

I must first put this before I forget....I love how the author worked another book she’s written ( which is awesome I must add ) into the story. ❤️

The book has a good storyline. You can choose multiple characters to like, one to seriously hate. You like Australia and Scotland? It’s in here. A lovely romance, mistakes, and books!! I love the authors idea for a certain type bookstore. I’d happily lose myself in it.

Grab this. And a cup of hot tea and unwind. You’re welcome.
