Leonardo, the universal man is a well written informative biography on the life of this important historical figure. The chronological format in which is it written helps the reader to put Leonardo da Vinci’s life in historical context. The author, Fregolent, includes many illustrations to compliment the text; she is also very comprehensive in the scope of the art work, architectural representations, sketches, and designs included. Da Vinci is known as the universal man because of his wide reaching impact on art, philosophical thought, and architecture. The only criticism with this book is the two- column format in which it is printed. This layout can make some of the pages appear visually confusing. However, Leonardo, the universal man, is a useful resource for anyone wishing to know more about the man who painted the Mona Lisa.
