Part of the bestselling What Your Doctor May Not Tell You series, an informative, detailed guide to breast cancer, including treatment and prevention.
Each year, over 40,000 women in the U.S. die from breast cancer. With statistics rising, conventional methods of treatment are simply not working, and in some cases may even be harmful. Now, Drs. Lee and Zava explain the potentially life-saving facts, such likely sources for the increase in breast cancer, including environment, excessive estrogen, progesterone imbalance, diet, and the dangers associated with traditional hormone replacement methods. Readers will learn strategies for lowering their risk and preventing this devastating disease through a revolutionary hormone balance program.
John R. Lee, M.D., was a pioneer and expert in the study and use of the hormone progesterone, and on the subject of hormone replacement therapy for women.
Every woman should read this not just women with breast cancere. Some of the data is hard to follow and I wouldn't say that I subscribe to all of the ideas presented. I do think much of what I read about the politics and history of the study of breast cancer is right on. I wish the section on what treatments are recommended were more clear and specific.
Overall, an enlightening book on breast cancer and everyone should read it just to be exposed to a different way of thinking.
Quite technical, cannot say I managed to master all the concepts outlined. Repetitive at times, which was good for better grasp of complicated relationships, so not a nuisance from my own perspective.
I am trying for 2 months already to keep up with the recommendations for allowing the body to increase natural secretion of progesterone and it works. How can I tell? By the decrease in breast tenderness and definite improvement in PMS. What a game changer!!
So what are these tips to favour natural progesterone and cut back on the harmful over secretion of estrogen: 1. Eliminated refined sugar and carbohydrates. I eat whole grain foods and fruits instead 2. No more alcohol (for a longer period actually) 3. Said good bye to perfumes and not natural cosmetics 4. Respected the luteal phase and didn’t do intense sports or gym classes 5. Eating organic (from the super market mainly, as not much access to farmers market) 6. Replaced synthetic clothing as much as possible and definitely underwear (for quite some time now) 7. Eating 5 days a week pumpkin seeds and chia seeds, together with other nuts for breakfast.
Other factors to take into account: no smoking or birth control. And increased quality of sleep (could not keep up this one constantly). Reduced stress (also cannot do all the time). Still need to get a proper water filter.
All in all, super happy to see such a book out there in a world where rather harmful mammographies are recommended just because the expensive machinery needs amortisation. This when a simple old fashioned ultra sound might make more sense. Or when the go to treatment is chemo therapy and radiation. Fortunate enough as to not have the breast cancer diagnostic, but good to prevent it any ways.
Another thing that annoyed me was the fact that the doctor in my 20s recommended metformin to treat my polichistic ovaries instead of just asking me to cut out the tons of sugars I was ingesting. But here comes doctor Lee to the rescue, some many years later.
The chapter on the psyche of breast cancer made me think of Gabor Mate book, When the body says no. The woman that prioritises others and forgets about her needs, aka the people pleaser It’s not going to help anyone if you sacrifice yourself on the altar of unshelfishness. It’s quite okay to take care of yourself while you also take care of others
I must admit the book feels like a commercial to their progesterone cream at times. The tone is also giving some weird vibes. But who cares in the end when it is packed with the mechanism to empower you take controls of your hormones? Plus it has a wealth of recommended further readings
Estrogen in birth control and hormone replacement therapy causes breast cancer. Many women have too much estrogen naturally from a bad diet.
The way to balance your hormones is to use progesterone cream. It's gentle and natural, made from yams, and can heal fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and prevent you from having to get a hysterectomy.
I've been using it for a while and it also mellows my mood and makes me less anxious.
There is good information in here if you take everything with a grain of salt. They start the book saying don't trust the flawed findings of large cancer studies, but then ask you to trust anecdotal evidence.
Helpful and interesting. I read mostly the last section about hormone balance. It's so hard to know who to believe, but I felt there was some good information in here. I'm not sure I'm sold on progesterone cream, but it's good to know about it.
