A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

The end of the Ultimate universe is nigh? The Ultimatum Wave has struck! This volume collects the final season one issues of FF, our merry mutants and Spidey. Let's roll this out in order of quality, from low to high, so kicking off with the Fantastic Four, who have the most insular story as Ben Grimm find himself the lone resident member after the Wave, where are the other three and how can he get them back. On one hand a brilliant character study of Grimm, but too understated a story for Ultimatum, methinks? 7 out of 12. LIke everything in Ultimatum still a must-read though.

The carnage and graphic violence in the Ultimatum X-Men story further underlines the more realistic approach and works pretty well.... but ooh the carnage. As soon as the Wave strikes it's apparent the next target is all the mutants, how will the X-Men fare? I'll tell ya, they don't! 8 out of 12.

And at the top of the tree, it's a no-brainer Brian Michael Bendis and David Lafuente's Ultimate Spider-Man, take some medication before reading this one, this is the shocking ride a superpowered teenager has to take when trying to help, and survive an apocalyptic event with sterling performances Aunt May, Jameson, Spider Woman, Hulk, Dr Strange and the creative team themselves. LOVE! 9 out of 12.

You have to read the mind blowing and wonderful well thought out Requiem for Spider-Man! A Five Star read! 10 out of 12! The Ultimate Fantastic Four requiem is pretty good, but the Ultimate X-men one, which you'd think would be the best considering Ultimatum's cause, is the weakest. Four Stars, 9 out of 12 overall

To be fair, I think this probably deserves a 3.5, but I'm going to go ahad and round that up, since the authors had to salvage Jeph Loeb's leftobvr brain garbage Ultimatum.

In Ultimate Spider-man, Peter has some adventures! During Ultimatum! It's very clear that Bendis isn't really into this, but he still manages to make it more entertaining than all of Ultimatum put together. And issue 130 is wordless and beautiful, and the Requiem issues are now some of my favorite JJJ moments.

In Ultimate Fantastic Four, Reed and Johnny are gone, leaving Ben to save Sue. I like that Reed is missing, since he's only marginally in the Ultimatum book, and it reveals how little planning went into the whole event. But regardless, the FF issues are full of fantastic flashbacks about how Ben and Reed became friends, and touching moments between Ben and Sue, and so on. It is, again, fundamentally adventures! During Ultimatum! But I've got to say, I found some actual character moments in there. It explains why Ben does what he does so randomly at the end of Ultimatum, and the ending is so fantastically depressing, it's great.

In Ultimate X-Men, some stuff happens. That series has been off the rails for a while now, so I have no particular feelings about this either way. It's just more of the same. There's a nice twist on Madrox, but since all the characters you like are either (a) inolved in the main Ultimatum book, and hence missing here, or (b) being killed in Ultimatum, and hence missing here, we're down to almost nothing at this point.

So, yeah. It's alright. Which, in the context of Ultimatum, is freaking incredible!
