Ryan takes care of his friend Trevor’s house while he’s out of town, meeting Trevor’s friends and settling into his life. Then Trevor comes home to find Ryan and their friend Ethan in his bed. Ryan only has to watch Trevor and Ethan together to know they’ve been more than friends for a while. But will the three of them be willing to explore the possibilities of being friends with benefits together?
Jenny is a card-carrying crazy cat lady who lives not too far from Las Vegas. She likes a show about dysfunctional monster-hunting brothers, tall men and driving her family up the wall. When she’s not writing, she’s singing or playing the piano, reading other people’s books, or providing chatroom commentary on awards shows.
Review: This was a very hot, very explicit and highly enjoyable story. Sex with the lights on, I’d describe it! but also with underlying emotional connection. Review for Brief Encounters Reviews: http://briefencountersreviews.com/201...
It’s essentially a protracted sex scene, albeit over a few days. Initially, I struggled to work out the relationships between the three men involved – I should have read the blurb more carefully :) – but otherwise the story was well-written enough to avoid the usual pronoun confusion when all the sexual protagonists are “he”!
Ryan and Ethan are having fun in Trevor’s absence, when Trevor arrives home unexpectedly and catches them in bed. From there, it develops into a sexual free-for-all, though within reason. There are no recriminations when Trevor finds the others having sex, it’s not that kind of a situation. This was a very refreshing approach! The three, highly-sexual and uninhibited men are just having fun together and as a group. No one’s condoning infidelity or seeking lifetime love, just accepting of a consensual, shared physical relationship.
The sex is very hot, the positions and reactions described very vividly and visually. The author skilfully involves all the reader’s senses, increasing the stimulation. There are occasional moments of tension, usually broken by the men themselves and their open honesty about it all. But there’s plenty of humour and banter as well. The characters demonstrate the full-on frankness of sexually-active young men, but I found them all very attractive and engaging.
The story is told mostly from Ryan’s POV, in his individual, inimitable language. He’s an adventurer as much as the next man, but his commentary on the situation lends amusement and character. For example, when he’s been out drinking with his friends: He thought maybe he should quit while he was ahead. Or at least not behind. He tried to stand the empty bottle next to another on the table and couldn’t make it stay up straight. Definitely should quit. He’s a very willing participant in it all but remains rather charmingly surprised at his good luck at being included in the sex games with two such hot men.
And that’s where an emotional impact creates something more than porn-games-with-plot. The author differentiates well between the three characters, showing unique personalities, dialogue and wit, hinting at friendships and relationships already established. Ryan is our main pair of eyes and he’s not privy to everything between Trevor and Ethan, but he allows us to see there’s more going on behind the scenes than the bedroom action. When he comes home and finds Trevor and Ethan together as a couple: Ryan was frozen, unable to move, unable to shake the feeling that he’d intruded on something unbearably private; at the same time, he was desperate to join in.
The story was fun and exciting to read, hot and sweet. The author’s style delivered something far more interesting and lasting than a quickie romp, and the story has stayed in my memory since first reading – and in the smile on my face :). I rate it B+.
As a stand alone story it is limited to the sexual relationship of the 3 men. There are hints to something deeper but so far it is just a tease for more to come.
Ryan has a very close friendship to Trevor, and is on his way to building a friendship with Ethan. The problem is that Trevor and Ethan are so obviously much more than friends. Ryan wonders about them before Trevor comes home, but knows for sure once he gets back. That Ryan goes for Ethan in the meantime is fine, but what is Ethan thinking? Trevor doesn't seem to mind when he catches them in his bed, but Ryan catches a few private looks between the other 2 men when they don't know he can see.
Do they have an open relationship or are they just sleep with each other more than they sleep with anyone else? Do they even realize how much they mean to each other and how they look to someone on the outside? Since everything is from Ryan's POV, we have no idea.
The fact that they are all such close friends, I'm okay with the addition of Ryan. It just seems like it is a weird time in the relationship to be adding someone else.
If this is a one shot deal then I think there is too much going on for such a short story. If its intended to be a fun romp between friends with no expectations beyond the bed room door then the story should have been lighter. The emotion between Ethan and Trevor, and what Trevor allows to happen between the 3 of them really deserves more space.
If this is just the beginning of something more lasting and deeper then I hope there are more parts coming. The ending sort of suggests we are going to see them again so my rating reflects that assumption.
Three studs, lots of sex, oh, and a little domination. Sound interesting? It should. Plus, it’s hot. What is it? With Benefits by Jenny Urban.
This story's writing is tight and doggoned hot. I felt like I was right there with Trevor, Ryan, and Ethan. It was interesting to see the power exchange between the three men. And talk about heat! I needed a cold shower and I was just reading the story. Imagine being part of the action! Holy cow! As hot as it was, I could also feel the emotions between the three of them. They might like to push the limits, but they still respected each other.
But as much as I liked it, there were more than a couple issues that kept cropping up. I realize this is a short story and I know that there are a lot of details that can’t be threaded in. Still, I wanted to know more about each man. There were a couple times when I has to go back and reread to figure out which man was doing what. I completely was caught up in their lovemaking and that was great, but I still wanted more from them. More details, more individuality. I did enjoy the tender moment involving Trevor. That gave me the sizzly warm fuzzies.
This short little story packs a heat filled punch. If you want a story that will crackle around the edges and warm a chilly March night, then this is the book for you.
This is a short, really hot read which focuses on the development of a three-way relationship between friends.
Ryan is surprised to find out that Ethan and Trevor have been friends with benefits for a while, and eager to join them. He has more trouble believing they want them for more than a one-time encounter, but it looks like they pull it off. I liked Ryan's struggle with himself as he tries to decide if he can intrude on the two-way relationship the other two have. He is too tempted to really resist, but he does think about it. That made the whole situation a lot more believable for me, since they are obviously friends, wanting to remain friends, and not strangers.
If you're looking for a fun read with lots of hot sex, you will like this story.

This is hot and sexy but I wasn't sure what the point was beyond several menage sex scenes. Ryan has moved in with a friend Trevor and while the friend is away sleeps with bartender Ethan. Although it soon becomes clear that Trevor and Ethan have a thing, but they keep dragging Ryan into their thing. But despite several sex trios, I still didn't have a clue what the deal was with Trevor and Ethan. Where they just fuck-buddies? Open relationship? You'd think Ryan would have figured that out or at least asked. Because if they are just fuck-buddies, is that all he is? Is it more? A true menage. Ethan seems much more in control or maybe removed from it all. If you're in the mood for some hot m/m/m smexin' it fits the bill most assuredly, as for relationship, I was left just as confused at the end as the beginning.
I'm a huge fan of long reads, so my biggest complaint is that it's too short. I'd have loved this to be longer, but as it is, it's still awesome. The characters are individual and have distinct voices, and the sex is scorching, with just the right amount of hope for more in the future.
