Elefantina is back in her ice skates and is ready to show the Elympic judges what she's made of. In this sequel to the Olympic spoof" Elympics, " the excitement and spirit of Olympic figure skating is captured as Elefantina attempts to do a flawless salchow and make the Elympic team. Full-color illustrations.
Elefantina has one dream - to be a figure skater in the Elympics. Her determination to succeed, to live her dream, comes through in the rhyming text and lovely, brightly colored illustrations. She manages to find some practice ice, even though she lives in a tropical country. She manages to foil a rival's sabotage, practices relentlessly, and overcomes self doubt. This was a little too long to read to my very young story time audience, but for a slightly older group (preschoolers, early elementary) I think this would be a well received book with a strong message about working to achieve a dream.
Elfantina was the ice skater from Kennedy's "Elympics." This book delves into her backstory, chronicling the inception her dreams to become a figure skater. The illustrations are again wonderfully bright and detailed, making Elfantina's island home pop off the page. This book teaches children about working hard to accomplish a goal. A rival tries to stunt Elfantina's chance of making the Elympic team, but she overcomes the setback, only to face another one in the surprise ending. Adults and children will enjoy reading about Elfantina's adventures together.
This is an entertaining story featuring an anthropomorphic elephant who lives on a tropical island, but dreams of becoming an 'Elympic' figure skater. The narrative is fun to read aloud and the crayon and colored pencil illustrations are cartoonish and very expressive. It's a good book to read with children leading up to the Olympic Games. We enjoyed reading this book together.
