Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
This was one that I chose for us to read. Lots of great pictures to appeal.
This book describes many animals you would find on a farm. What are their jobs, what benefits do people get from these animals? (Milk, meat, clothing...)
I would have liked to see a few more animals: donkey, llama/alpaca

This book Farm Animals has great photos of animals, and poems to help children remember. It has quiz pages to help test what has been learned. It is a great resource for parents looking to assist their children in developing their reading skills.
Farm Animals gives many examples of animals that live on a farm and discusses the different jobs that the animals have on the farm. The book begins by giving a list of items that comes from a farm and then asks which animals make those products. The book then proceeds to answer that question throughout the text. The author includes pigs, cows, sheepdogs, ducks, and many more. Each page includes a couple of sentences about the animal, a photo of the animal, and an interesting fact about the animal.
There were some aspects of this book that I liked, and some that I didn't like. I loved all of the great photographs of the animals. I thought that these photographs helped bring the story to life. However, I did not like that each page rhymed. I feel like it limited the amount of knowledge given about each animal and some of the rhymes didn't even make much sense.
I think that this book could be used in a classroom during a farm or animal unit. It would give another non-fiction resource that is on a level which students could understand. However, this would not be one to use for the main source of teaching.
This book did perceive farm animals in true form. Living on a farm many children's books make farm animals cute and cuddly, or something like that. So opposite what real life is like. This book in nice one person format tells in rhyme about each farm animal. What they do what they are good for etc. Just a nice book.
