Marriage holds a position of perpetual significance because of the central role it plays in human life. It is not surprising, therefore, that the scholars of Islam have discussed it extensively through the ages. Under the contemporary influence of non-Islamic cultures, however, misconceptions have crept into various areas of Islam - spilling into marriage, divorce, and other family-related matters.
Viewing the needs of the Muslims who live in non-Islamic environments, and realizing that most Islamic writings on marriage are restricted in scope, we find quite a large gap that needs to be filled for the benefit of the English-speaking Muslims - which is what we attempt to accomplish over the span of this 4-book- set that covers various aspects of marriage according to the authentic Sunnah:
As a logical continuation to the series, this book deals with the normal fruit of marriage: babies. It covers the Islamic regulations relating to a newborn. This includes welcoming the baby, naming it, shaving its hair, circumcising it, and slaughtering the sacrificial 'aqiqah.
Muhammad Al-Jibali acquired a sound knowledge of Shaykh al-Albanis fiqh and methodology through personal contact with the Shaykh and an extensive study, indexing, and teaching of his works.
He Studied and maintained strong friendship with most of the late Nasir ud-Din al-Albanis prominent students from Syria, Jordan, and other countries (1983 to current).
He has authored many original books and articles in various areas of fiqh, `aqidah, manhaj, da`wah, etc and has lectured at many conferences and seminars, in North America and around the world.
As part of continuation from the Muslim family series, and as a final book in completion with regards to after giving birth, the author addresses certain issues with regards to newborns, such as giving names, tahnik, aqiaah and circumcision. The author provide arguments and conclusion for each act, for example, is aqiqah compulsory/recommended?
The book also describes in celebration of newborns, irrespective of gender and naming the newborn. Appendices are attached with regards to example of good names to be given to newborns, when to name the newborns, names that should be avoided. Everything that's written is supported by authentic hadith, even some daif hadith are described, just to inform that we shouldn't be following it and innovate ibadahs matters. An excellent book for new parents, and even can be used as reference/guidance.
This book was good, however I am hesitant to take some of this author's choices in schools of thought as my own. I would say most of what he says is on-point, however some of it I really feel like there HAS to be another scholarly opinion out there other than the one he chooses/offers. Not to mention the fact that fatwas (Islamic ruling or scholarly opinion) are sometimes very individual for individual situations and one may not apply to another's case.
