Nightcap At Dawn: Soldiers' Counterinsurgency

Rate this book
A group of U.S. soldiers e-mailed their observations and experiences from Iraq, with their candid opinions on fighting an insurgency. The resulting book is a compelling narrative that carries the reader into alleys. bunkers, and homes. It poses difficult questions about engaging with an enemy that hides amid — and targets — the civilian population. "A truly extraordinary book ... of recollections, pooled experiences, and shared sacrifices [written] in the most vivid firsthand manner" (Christopher Hitchens). If I wanted to prepare to wage a counterinsurgency effort, especially in Iraq, I'd read this. People matter. Bombs and bullets rarely have long term results. People think *very* differently than you (or me). I'm sure it is true-to-life, but not recommended because of swearing. And this is probably *far* more restrained than actuality.

God bless those who are willing to go through this to protect us.

Excellent, bring real feeling to the individual soldiers in Iraq's guerrilla war. Reminds me of Robert Graves impressionist "Good bye to all That".

Repetitive, and not the anthology of soldier emails I was expecting from the description.
