The wonders of two 24-hour door to door trips in 5 days! I was able to finish a book I started again in March after a multi-decade hiatus.

This is the foundational work in welfare economics. Pigou brought to economics the concept of externalities and developed policy measures (e.g., taxes) to address their mitigation. His advocacy for government intervention to address such market inefficiencies, might be seen as laying an essential pre-condition for Keynes. Later, Pigou was criticized by Keynes, but undoubtedly served the discipline well by bridging classical and modern economics, influencing fields like modern environmental economics.
