Without regret, homicide detective Sergeant Roman Stefan has crossed the line on more than one occasion. When Stefan’s ailing father, a hero to the community, asks his son to stop his corrupt ways, Stefan reluctantly says yes. Assigned to a woman’s murder, he must come to grips with his very nature and take on the broken justice system he was once a part of. Each step takes him down a shaky path that forces him to struggle with his inner demons and the promise he made to his father.
Yet another enthralling read from D K Gaston. The Promise is the story of a bent cop who tries to mend his ways. There is plenty of drama and suspense plus a surprising ending. An excellent read and highly recommended!
Detective Roman Stefan has little to no integrity. Most of his family in blue regard him as dirty and know that he’s not above doing what he wants in order to get results. His dad is dying. He knows that Roman hasn’t been a good man and tells Roman of his own transgressions, hoping that Roman be a better man.
Reassigned to a cold case, Roman’s chief is breathing down his neck with threats of not only ending his career, but locking him away. IA is also on his case and his father’s words are vibrating in his ear. While investigating, he’s doubtful that Ebony Warner, a murder victim, is even worth his time. But it seems that someone, somewhere went through a lot of trouble to shut her up. Is there more to this case?
THE PROMISE: A ROMAN STEFAN NOVEL is an okay read. I like that the main character is sketchy and marches to the beat of his own drum. Gaston provides readers with enough background that you understand the character and his characteristics. The story has a good flow. Some parts of the story are a little farfetched, but as the plot thickens, readers become more and more invested in the who, what, why, where and how of the story. While I really liked the story, there are issues in editing with tense, missing and wrong words that definitely need to be addressed.
Sergeant Roman Stefan of Detroit is a dirty cop. Roman promises his ailing father that he will clean up his life. He is assigned to a 4 month old homicide investigation of a prostitute named Ebony Warner that no one seems interested in. News anchor Hallie Warner is the sister of the dead prostitute. Hallie is putting pressure on the mayor's office to provide answers to her sister's death.
As Roman and Hallie work together find clues of her sister Ebony Warner's murder, they soon become targets of killers who don't want the truth to be uncoverered. Roman is trying hard not play dirty and keep his promise to his father. As Roman investigates the murder and get deeper into it, things are just not adding up to Ebony's death. What Roman uncovers is unbelieveable and you will never see it coming.
This story is very well written and has an unbelievable ending. It will catch you off guard. The plot and twists in this story are so well written. This book will keep your interest until the end.
Detroit Detective Roman Stefan doesn’t really see anything wrong with his unconventional methods. So what he steals from criminals. They’re criminals, right? So what he’s pinned crimes on some that they didn’t commit. They’re criminals so they did something wrong, even if it’s not the crime for which they were accused, right? Roman Stefan is as crooked as crooked can get. With IA always breathing down his neck, he somehow manages to stay one step ahead. Crime does pay. But Roman soon finds his life turned upside down when, on his deathbed, his father asks one thing of Roman – to be a good man and an honest cop. He promised but the timing could not be worst as a case designed to break him lands in his lap. Can Roman stay on the straight and narrow and solve the case, saving his career?
“The Promise” is a solid read. There’s a good enough balance of drama and the unknown to keep readers flipping pages and guessing what will happen next. Author DK Gaston fluidly connects the past with the present to give readers a better and deeper understanding of his characters, particularly the flawed Roman Stefan. I wouldn’t mind seeing Roman or Shango (loved him) in another complete, separate novel (no sequels please!). The editing could have been better. That said, I could easily see myself checking for DK Gaston in the future.
Detective Roman Stefan promised his dying father that he’d clean up his act and make him proud. When he’s assigned to investigate the death of a prostitute, the case turns out to be more than he bargained for. It could either making his career or expose him for the dirty cop he’s been known to be and totally ruin him. Along with the case comes Hallie Warner, a news anchor, who happens to be the sister of the dead prostitute. Unbeknownst to Detective Stefan, Hallie Warner is a master at wearing masks. By the end of the investigation, who will end up exposed and what dark secrets will come out?
In the beginning of the book I wasn’t sure if I should love or hate Detective Roman Stefan. By the middle, I was rooting for him to keep the promise that he’d made to his dying father. By the end, I just wanted him to come out of everything alive!
Once again, Keith Gaston has done an excellent job or concocting a story that is full of suspense. While reading you think you know who did it, but by the end of the book you realize that you had no idea.
I highly recommend that you read this fast-page novel that’s filled with well-developed, believable characters and loads of action.
Roman is a cop that is called in on this case even though it is a case he doesn't want to be a part of. Roman has a lot of demons he has to face and overcome throughout the course of this book. He is faced with being a good cop or be the bad cop he has become. This is case has a lot of twists and turns and he also has to deal with some personal issues. I loved this one, it kept me guessing to the very end and I could not put it down.
Detective Roman Stephan, a dirty cop, makes a promise that will change his life. If he can survive long enough to keep it. Another outstanding page-turner from D.K. Gaston! I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. Be prepared readers for thrilling twists and turns before you reach the incredible ending.
