I love love love this soft fox
The patterns have some unusual methods. For instance, the stuffed Santa doll's legs are made with pieced fabric. To construct, one sews the various widths of fabrics into one unit. The leg pattern is laid over the pieced unit, traced, and cut with seam allowances. Each leg has two pieces which are sewn and turned.
Projects include
Bumblebee Quilt, pillows, pin cushion, and stuffed bees Flower quilt, pillows, and fabric flowers Circus Quilt Tree Pillow Applique Elephant quilt Cabbage Rose Quilt Patchwork squirrel and rabbit stuffed animals Birds and Sunflowers quilt and pillows Patchwork Fox stuffed animal Pumpkin Harvest Quilt and pillow Patchwork Santa and stocking
This book had some beautiful quilt patterns I'd never seen before, which is difficult when you live with a textile artist ;) It also has some adorable patterns for stuffed animals, which have encouraged me to try and make something for my nephew's birthday. Well worth a look, if you're craftily inclined.
Tilda books by Tone Finanger fill up my crafting shelves so a new book is something to celebrate! Using the distinctive Tilda fabrics,Tone creates whimsical items for home decoration and gifting alike. The patterns are clearly written and I think the only thing I would add is I like paper patterns or links to print outs as resizing can be a bit painful. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this in return for an honest review.
Sewing by Heart is the newest pattern and fabric collection book from 'Tilda' (Tone Finnanger). The fabrics are (as always) beautiful and delicately colorful and so wonderfully coordinated. I absolutely love the designs. The patterns include several groups of coordinating projects: quilts with matching pillows, soft toys or decor items. The quilts are pieced in the traditional fashion but the patterns are new-to-me and original. There are both pieced, modified mola (reverse applique) and traditional applique projects. They are all beautiful and I had trouble picking out what to do first.
There are (by my count) 24 separate projects in 7 broad categories. The 7 quilt patterns alone are worth more than the purchase price. The book also includes chapters covering materials, techniques, scale and full size patterns (there are also printable pattern links), and a handy suppliers list at the back of the book.
There are nice full color photographs and illustrations throughout.
Published 17th November, 2017 through F+W Media and Sew and So, it's 144 pages and available in ebook and softbound formats.
Four stars, beautiful and original quilt patterns and beautifully showcased quality fabrics.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher.
"Tilda Sewing by Heart' by Tone Finnanger is a delightful array of projects. Her ideas are adorable and inventive. Her use of color is terrific. Having read tons of instructions for quilts in my life, Ms. Finnanger has clear concise well written instructions. There is no searching for how many blocks you need to make and how the quilt is laid out. The templates at the back of the book are also well done. There are also beautiful pillow to make which match the quilt. Also with all your left over scraps she uses them to make yet another project. I enjoyed this immensely and look forward to working on several of the projects in the book. I only have one detraction. When you are looking through this book at the photographs, do not let the background of the photograph (the wallpaper) distract you from the actual quilt. The quilts are beautiful so take the time to really look at the quilt itself on the pages that follow. Wonderful! Look forward to seeing more from Ms. Finnangar.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Ms. Finnangar and F+W Media SewandSo for ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I found Tilda Sewing By Heart by Tone Finnanger to be a beautiful resource for anyone who enjoys sewing. I was drawn to this book by the beautiful cover and I was not disappointed.
I love sewing but am not a quilter, although I do have quilting experience. I had so much fun looking at all the colorful pictures in this book and reading the story behind each pattern. I love that this book has many projects that are not quilts such as the stuffed fox, squirrel and elephant. The patterns are available online for free download. While I have not made anything yet from this book, I definitely have plans to. I read through the instructions for several patterns and they seem to be clear and precise. although I cannot be sure until I actually sit down and make something.
This book has a lovely aesthetic. All of the quilts are made with a white background and lovely colorful fabrics and are presented with wonderful floral patterns in the background. It is an exuberance of colorful floral joy. Besides quilts, the book also has patterns for stuffed animals, pillows, and pincushions. The cover does not do this book justice.
The only drawback is that the patterns are drawn on top of each other in the book. This means that you may have to join some of the patterns which are bigger than the page. I did not have any trouble distinguishing what shape went with what pattern, but you do have to look carefully to see what you have.
Having stitched a few of the Tilda dolls I was excited to receive this book. It's mostly about patchwork, using Tilda fabrics of course, but with some lovely soft toys, pincushions, throw pillows in addition to quilts. There is one doll so I was not disappointed in that respect! It has full size templates for all the patterns, plus lots of how-to information for those not skilled in sewing. A lovely book perhaps for those new at quilting or needing inspiration. Thanks to the publisher for a digital review copy.
I love to sew and being a self taught sewer it is hard to find books and patterns that I can understand enough to follow and use. Tone Finanger's book is easy to read and follow along. My only complaint is the way the patterns are set up is hard on me as a dyslexic person. It is confusing to my brain trying to figure out because many of the pieces lay over each over. But if you print them out several times and mark each one you can figure it out. This book has 24 different items to create in it quilts, softies, dolls. I only gave it 4 stars because of the pattern issues.
Do you want to have a new collection of quilts, cushions and toys to make. Well this new book of patterns from fabric designer Tilda [Tone] is the book you need. This selection of designs includes patchwork, applique and quilting projects that will bring colour and beauty to your home. As always, this book features amazing photos, great instructions and full-size templates, You will want to get sewing as soon as you close the last page
this book is great if you're interested in quilting! i'm not really into quilting, so it wasn't really for me, but i loved the reverse applique pillows.
This has a variety of interesting, well illustrated patterns. An intermediate to advanced sewer will find this book easy to go through, while a beginner like me can pick some of the easier projects and work up with experience. The patchwork animals look fairly easy to start with and make good use of scraps. If you haven't tackled a quilt before, the steps are shown. I highly recommend this and will be starting a patchwork fox!
I loved the projects in this book. I'm not a quilter, but I love making softies. Each quilt pattern in this book has several smaller related projects that go with it. I'm excited to make the beehive pincushion and some of the patchwork stuffies. The directions are detailed and many of the projects could be tackled by someone with basic sewing knowledge. Each of the project includes images of suggested fabrics to help you recreate the looks pictured in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves quilting and making stuffies.
I love all books with sewing patterns by Tone Finnanger. 'Tilda Sewing By Heart' is as awesome as all the previous books but its main theme is different. The book is full of patterns connected with autumn: you will find the templates of foxes, pumpkins, a squirrel, a hare and many many more. I highly recomment it to all fans of scandinavian design, sewing, handmade home decor and patchwork. The design are easy to sew even for beginners. Perfect gift for all people who love crafternoons!
If you love previous Tone Finnanger books, previous Tilda books, or have no idea who that is and love quilting and sewing you will probably love this book. Tone consistently uses wonderful color combos with simple quilt blocks and unique sewing patterns to make wonderful projects. The books carries a wonderful color palette throughout. I doubt you could flip through this book and not want to make several of the items. Even better is that it includes everything from pillows to pincushions and more, so you can complete a project without tackling a while quilt.
This book is fabulous, yes you may say it uses Tilda fabric, which is glorious, but you don't have to. There aren't only quilts in this book, but wonderful imaginative pillows and toys/accessories. This book isn't just another quilt book, it is an exercise in fabric colour and pattern use. The designs are not difficult, they could be completed by a beginner but the fabric combination makes this a very exciting book. I just love the Cabbage Rose quilt which is quite traditional, but the others are wonderful, bright yet blended and restful. A list of swatches are given, but other fabric in like colours can be used if unavailable, or just use what you like..
This book is all about traditional quilts in traditional patterns and fabrics. Then after the quilt design there is normally how to make a pillow, and how to make something else, like a bee or a flower. Overall not a bad book, but more for beginners.
I loved the patchwork applied to pillows which is very joyful. The book is a reference book patchwork. The steps by steps projects can be done any time of the year. The collection contains items from Easter to Christmas. Very useful.
