Hunger Aroused

Rate this book
Jasmine is sick in bed when a sexy stranger breaks in and reveals she's suffering an irreversible case of vampirism. And because her turning wasn't approved by the Council, he must kill her once the transition is complete. In the meantime, the executioner offers to ease her torment with chocolate, hot peppers or sexual release. Fortunately for them both, Jasmine's kitchen is bare...
Corin's honor demands he do his duty, but he cannot execute the lovely woman while any part of her humanity remains. He must also find - and kill - her sire. Jasmine denies ever having contact with a vampire, causing Corin to question the justice of his orders. Sensing his hesitation, the Council dispatches another executioner, forcing the pair to make a run for it.

Every hour they spend together - every sensual encounter they share - finds them growing closer. Now Corin will have to choose: kill the woman he loves, or go against everything he believes to set her free.

It's real review time. Jasmine’s a nurse who is feeling crappy and is sent home from work early. She’s a trooper though and decides to walk, as she normally does, but on this fateful night she happens to walk past Corin who recognizes the “scent” of change. He is a vampire who holds the title of “Executioner” and it’s his job to destroy all unauthorized vampire fledglings. And this one is definitely unauthorized. Her smell intoxicates him and he follows her home.

Jasmine’s a bit taken aback to find a stunningly gorgeous male in her home but she goes with the flow (hey, I can’t say as I blame her). Corin wastes no time explaining what is happening to her body and that he’s there to destroy her in three days’ time. As Jasmine is overcome with the “heat” of change (think Anita Blake’s ardeur) she is told by Corin that the only way to soothe her need is spicy food, chocolate or sex. There aren’t any chick flicks and boxes of Godiva’s lying around so guess what they end up doing instead? After petting her throbbing need into submission for the moment, Corin calls in her existence to the “Council” thus sealing her fate. He must kill her in three days or they will do it for him. He instantly regrets it because, damn, she smells like cinnamon and he finds himself falling in lusty-love. Yummy.

It all starts out fun and sexy and I was looking forward to learning more about both Corin and Jasmine but soon after the setup the story turns into a humorless, running from danger, angst-fest and I was disappointed. Corin is dripping with drama, the poor vampire-man. His past is seriously dark and tortured, I’ll give him that. He’s been raped and tortured and forced to serve a sadistic master at some point in his long existence. It’s not pretty stuff and we only get to see glimpses of it (darn!), but you get the gist that it was a very bad time for him. It’s turned him into a deadly serious vampire. I can take angst, I will even go so far as to admit I’m a sucker for angsty romance, but this one just didn’t draw me in. I never once got that heart-sick feeling that tells me I’m reading an unforgettable romance. Sadness. I even ended up skimming a little and I don’t usually do such things.

As for the storyline, there were far too many things that were not explained in enough detail for me. But the two that stand out are Jasmine’s vampirism (she was poked with an infected needle) and the little fact that Corin is already bonded to his male maker. There was much fuss made about Jasmine being “a new breed of vampire” but it just didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Also the whole sharing blood and bonding thing left me wondering about a lot of things. What if The Big Bad Master Vamp (sorry, his name has escaped me) got a sudden craving for Corin’s fine bum and showed up demanding kinky m/m sex? Would Corin still be forced to oblige? And would Jasmine enjoy watching? (probably not, she’s not me). Seriously, I fear for Jasmine’s HEA.

I liked Jasmine. She was a nice character and she was a good match for Corin. She stood up to him and even tried to save his sorry ass but I would have enjoyed this story so much more if the prose weren’t so overblown and we got a little bit of “getting to know you” time between the two characters. In the end, it all seemed too rushed, much like many of Jasmine’s orgasms.

I found this a good erotic read and I did enjoy it. It has a lot of emotions and action. I really enjoyed the storyline and the way the author takes these two though their predicament. I try my best not to give spoilers in my reviews, but I need to worn you this one will have them, so if you don’t want SPOLIERS please stop reading. Sorry it’s the only way I can explain the 3 stars

I loved the heroine Jasmine she is very strong and willing to do anything, but let this vampire execute her. She knows she was not turned by a vampire because she hasn’t even had sex a long while so she knows no one has taken blood or added blood to her. One day after she ends up very sick and leaves work then at home she becomes very horny, so horny she will let a stranger ease her. Then she finds out he is sent to kill her when she is fully turned vampire, needless to say this wasn’t her day or week.

Now what I didn’t really like was the hero Corin. I cant really pin point it yet, I think it was because he just doesn’t really try to love Jasmine. I will say he has went through a lot in his past and maybe that has to do with it. I just didn’t feel like he was the right hero for Jasmine. Now for big spoiler. He has a gay mate already even though they arent still together (you have to read to find out why.)This is one reason I rated it 3 instead of 4 stars. I like to know before I get into a book where there is mention and or any m/m in it. No it doesn’t go into the whole sex part scene, but it does quite a bit. You see Corin was raped and made to be with this male mate and he still is when he mates with Jasmine I just couldn’t rap my mind around this and didn’t like it. I know some of you will. Needless to say this is not a happy story its very emotional.

This is a highly erotic book that really swept me up in the suspense in the last half. Corin is a vampire executioner tasked with ending a transitioning vamp and her bandit creator. The three day kill order drives the tension. It is complicated by the innocence and appeal of nurse Jasmine. Interesting and tragic flashbacks to Corin's own creation add depth and emotion.

I really wish the book had been longer and the vamp society more fully explored. The ending also dealt with one of the creation mysteries in a quick, nearly unsatisfactory way. Regardless, I was glued to the pages of this novella. It was a quick read.

3.5 rounded to 4 stars.

What an emotional battle between love, loyalty, duty, and death. I feel like I have been on one long emotional roller coaster in this story. It was an ok read for me but not a read where it totally Wow’d me. Anyone who reads this book will either love it or hate it. I fall in-between. I didn’t know what to think in the beginning at first and by the time I got towards the end all these emotions hit me and I just knew it was going to end badly but the author really surprised me with a Happy Ending.

When Jas went home from the hospital sick from what she thinks is the flu, she had no idea she was turning into a vampire until Corin, the mysterious gentleman she saw on the street in front of her place appears in her room to sate the need that is leaving her in agony... and to tell her he is to be her executioner.

In a three day span, a journey of passion sends Corin and Jas overboard for each other as they hunt for her Sire. The Vampire Council has their rules they play by and the out come is something you don’t want to miss. Gruesome in parts but short lived in the end.

The heroine Jas was a fighter all the way throughout the story and I had my doubts about Corin because he seemed to be more with drawn on his own feelings towards Jas but then there were times when he made more sense with his thoughts when he expressed how he felt about her. Over all, a very intriguing story.

I just didn't have the will left in me to read this book page by page. So I skipped (more than half of the book) and come to the conclusion that I haven't missed anything important.

Oh, I did try to enjoy it, very much so, but having read the first seven chapters (all of them, and I mean ALL), revolving around sex between the main characters, it got boring. A flat line of boorishness, because as much as I love sex scenes, the idea that a book must revolve around sex is stupid to me. Sex is not the reason for people to fall in love (especially of we're speaking about eternity here - they are vampires after all), sex is the consequence, and this book tried to convince me otherwise. I am not impressed by it's reasoning.

The characters are in no way complex - I think that Carney got a little too carried away with writing about sex to properly introduce characters to us. I believe that, if sex was put aside (and even not mentioned at all) this book would have been way better (because half of the stuff wouldn't be in it), and Dee Carney has some potential in the writing department, if she had a little bit more creativity when it comes to the storyline. Continuing along this way, I don't see if I'll ever read another book of hers. But well, for the erotica fans, this is the stuff of their dreams.

When Jasmine goes home from the hospital sick from what she thinks is the flu, she encounters a handsome man she wishes she had the energy to pursue. Hours later, weak with a heat that burns from within, he appears in her room to sate the need that is leaving her in agony... and to tell her he is to be her executioner.
Years of working for the vampire council have left Corin cold and empty. That is until the hot bands of Jasmines arms wrap around his very soul. Brought back to life by her touch, he is driven to do something he has never done before... risk his life to break the rules to save her.
Will they manage to get past the role of executioner and his intended victim or will their passion end with vampire law?
A fascinating read from page one that I love love loved. Carney manages to build a world enough like our own that it is easy to believe when she adds the fantastic. Passionate characters that literally climb off the page and a story that I couldn't put down make this one of my new favorite authors! Recommend, Recommend, Recommend!!

Heat: 4/5
Overall: 3/5

Hunger Aroused is everything that the title implies: the new, instinctual urges a newly turned vampire (and to some extant, seasoned vampire) has when the hunger takes over. It's a sensation that causes the vampire to become highly aroused. But, being aroused is only the beginning for the heroine of this action-packed story. When vampire executioner, Corin, comes to take her life, arousal turns in to something much more dangerous...love.

I have to admit that it took me awhile to really get in to the characters and what was going on between them. Sometimes I felt as though their actions were unbelievable based on the type of personal qualities each was setup to have/be in the beginning. You have a strong, intelligent, educated nurse who suddenly has no control over letting a stranger intimately touch her, goes through a bought of doubt and sadness of who Corin is, why he's come for her, and what's going on with her, then accepts the fact that she's turning into a vampire rather quickly. There were a couple of other events that took place that seemed somewhat out of character, but I can't really mention them due to spoilers. But, I will say, based on the character characteristics, I would have expected her to be a little more conscientious of her actions. What I did like about Jasmine was her fighter instinct. She wasn't going to give up fighting for herself, or for what she felt towards Corin.

Corin's background as an ancient vampire, forcefully created during the times of gladiators, comes out through a few reminiscent backstories. He has a horrible past with his male 'Dominus' who forced him to become a vampire, as well as his sexual slave. This part is not even hinted at in the blurb, which may not bother me, but I know will bother some others. While the author does not go into graphic explanations of the acts, they are implied.

I liked both Corin and Jasmine, but sometimes didn't like them together.. if that makes any sense. It wasn't until close to the end that I truly realized just what each of them meant to the other, and that's when my character love fell into place. For awhile, I honestly wasn't sure what Corin really felt towards Jasmine.

There's definitely plenty of smexin' for those of us who love our erotica, but like I said, I had a hard time connecting with these characters until about half way into the book (which by then a handful of sexual encounters had taken place), so sometimes it was hard for me to appreciate the hotness going on until that time.

Even with all that said, about halfway through the book, the character development started to pick up, as well as the action and mystery as to what would happen as the events surrounding Jasmine's unfortunate turning, unfolded. By the end, I was absolutely rooting for a happy ending for these two!

I enjoyed the way the author focused on the two protagonists and used the secondary characters as a means of moving the plot along. There are very little secondary characters within this story. The characters that are introduced are usually done so in pacing, to help support examples or outcomes, or to enhance and push along the plot.

The setting takes place over the course of three days in a closed world, surprising Jasmine that vampires even exist at all. The action also backs up this paranormal world that Jasmine has been thrust in to. Corin's own personal history is a key factor in to his interactions, and eventual outcome, with Jasmine. Additionally, the author's writing style is easy to follow and flows well.

~*~Final Thoughts~*~

This is a book for readers who are looking for strong action, lots of smexin', a world where a vampire council sets the stage for who lives and dies within the vampire world, and a hero and heroine who eventually finds happiness and love, despite the odds against them.

As for erotic specifics, there's graphic language and sex, and implied forced sex on the hero, which makes for m/m implications.

Jasmine goes home from work feeling like she has the bad case of the flu. What she has, though, is an unapproved case of vampirsim. Corin, an executioner sent by the Council, is supposed to assassinate Jasmine once her transition is completed and he must also end the life of her sire for creating an unsanctioned vampire. Once Corin starts questioning Jasmine, she claims she does not have a sire. The situation Jasmine finds herself in is unprecedented and invites Corin to investigate the circumstances that led up to Jasmin's vampirsim more fully.

As the story unfolds, Jasmin and Corin get caught up in Council politics and the dangerous curiosity of a very old vampire who takes an interest in Jasmin's unconventional situation. Corin has been an executioner of the Council for centuries and has led an emotionally unencumbered life until he meets the beautiful Jasmin.

This is definitely a 4 and a half star read. I absolutely loved this vampire tale! The very beginning of the book was a little off-putting for me in that it seemed... inane. As the story continued, it became very entertaining. The three days Jasmin and Corin spent together was sexy, joyous, challenging, loving, and tearful. Hunger Aroused by Dee Carney is a very absorbing adventure.

Happy Reading from Bona Fide Reflections!

I needed a good paranormal romance, so thanks NetGalley and Carina Press for allowing me to read this before its release.

Now, there is mention of m/m and some details that surround that, but I'm sort of into m/m, so I was fine with it. I didn't like how it was done because I'm never alright with forced sex, but it all played into Corin's backstory and why he is the way he is. I saw the reasoning behind it, even if I didn't like reading about it.

Anyway, I did like Corin and Jasmine, both together and separate. This was a good erotic read. I just wish more had been explained about Jasmine's transformation. Is she the only one like this? What did the bad guy find out about her? Questions, questions, questions, and no answers in sight. *sigh* Maybe Dee will write a follow-up about Ezra and inadvertently answer some of them. =)

I took a day off from work...played a little Wednesday hookie. This book was the perfect fit for a little self indulgent escape. In a flooded vampire market it's hard to find a 'fresh' view. Hunger Aroused it's just another vampire book. The characters are great. Not mindless vampire guy seeking sex while mindless human/almost vampire woman who can't say no. There is plenty of heat :) but the author introduces them with such a flare you're instantly invested in them. The pace is great. It's fast but not to the point you're feel you're on a run away roller coaster.

As the cold winds of winter blow this is great way to spend a night. Or if you have had enough family bonding download Dee's book and escape.

Wow. This book was hot. Really. Really. Hot.

Jasmine is a nurse who is transitioning into a vampire. She wasn’t turned in the traditional way, with biting and blood sucking. Rather, she was infected by a tainted needle and has no idea what is going on. That is, until she has the (mis)fortune of running into Corin on the street. He is an executioner for the Vampire Council. It is his job to eradicate fledglings and punish their sires for unauthorized turnings. He can smell the scent of transition all over Jasmine.

He follows her home, planning to kill her. But he is unexpectedly drawn to her. He eases the torment of her changing body with sexual healing. And before he knows what hit him, he feels more compelled to protect her than kill her. The two go on the run from the council, growing more tied to each other with every passing minute. Can they escape Jasmine’s death sentence? And beyond that, can Corin escape his brutal, tortured past?

Corin’s transition was centuries ago, following his life as a gladiator. He was subjected to torture and other atrocities to make him submit to his sire. I understand why this is part of the story. It gives us insight into why Corin is so determined to defend rules for how humans are turned. However, the flashbacks are stark and disturbing. They pulled me out of our couple’s erotic love story and their fight for their future. Of course, it also makes Corin very sympathetic –and you can’t help but want him to finally find happiness.

The story moves quickly and there are plenty of steamy sex scenes. So if you are looking for a hot vampire story and you’re prepared to be a little disturbed in order to get to the HEA, this one is worth a read. 4 stars.

Jasmine, a nurse, is a work-a-holic dedicated to helping those in need. She is alone in the world, with no family and few friends to share her life with. Walking home, after leaving work early due to sudden illness, she encounters the most intriguing stranger and even thinks to herself that she would have attempted to flirt with him if she weren't knocking at death's door. After a feverish nap, she is awakened, in her home by the handsome stranger who offers relief for what is ailing her--she has 3 choices and one of them is sex. Unbeknown to Jasmine, this hot man is her executioner, but he isn't planning on anything that drastic until he slakes the extreme lust he feels for her. Bad choice lover boy--a taste is all it takes for him to realize that this woman is unlike any other he has ever taken and suddenly execution is the last thing on his mind.

The vampire executioner, Corin struggles between the man he was, the man he was forced to be and the one he sees in the future with her by his side--not to mention the duty he has unquestionably bound himself to for hundreds of years. The story was compelling and their chemistry was undeniably hot. Good story.

*This review is part of the A Flash Of Fiction feature*

I Liked -- Plot: This is not your average vampire romance story. Dee Carney has contrived a pretty unique plot to move the story along, and force the two main characters into each other's company. Though Corin, who is supposed to eliminate Jasmine, has a tough shell, much of his backstory is explained through flashbacks. Sometimes, this can be an iffy venture, but Carney handles it pretty well, and I enjoyed learning more about the man than the fact that he is an assassin for the vampire council.

I Liked --Character: Corin was really intriguing to me. His history goes back all the way to the gladiators, and maybe because of it, he does have an oddly honorable sense of justice and mercy. Yes, the vampire council wields him like a weapon to hunt down "abominations" like Jasmine. However, there is plenty of character development to show what kind of man he was, what kind of man being a vampire made him into, and what kind of man he could be with Jasmine at his side.

My Rating: 11/15 (3 stars)

Lia's Review

The instant I opened this book on my e-reader, I was transformed into a dark world, where order and disorder are ruled by a council of elder vampires. A world where a vampire hunter is sent to kill an innocent woman who has no idea how she became one of them.

The characters were enjoyable to read and I loved the fact that both of them grew and evolved by the end. The plot was constantly moving forward with minimal dragging moments. The love scenes were erotic, and the book simply flowed. A few shocking moments made the plot a little unpredictable and more enjoyable. Everything came together beautifully in the end.

This is the first book by Mrs Carney I've read, but I'm sure it won't be the last. The H/H story is intense and full of angst, but even though they know each other only for a few hours, their attraction & subsequent feelings are something natural thanks to the writer's great storytelling.
Oh yeah, the sex scenes are pretty hot too.

WAS THE PLOT EXCELLENT? NAH, IT WAS AVERAGE. BUT WHAT YOU SHOULD FOCUS ON IS THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS. Normally insta-lust is always played off as insta-love by authors but here, it worked and what was love in 3 days...felt like the characters have been together forever.

OUR HERO is an excellent and skilled executioner for his people, the vampire council and he is tasked to kill one newly turned human who is still transitioning into a fledging. In this fictional world, vampires cannot be sired as anyone wishes and must be authorised to do so, if not both the sire and fledging will pay the price - death. When he meets our heroine, he doesn't expect the blazing attraction for her or the fact that he is falling in love with a mere human just from a few hours of knowing her. Unlike most vampire stories, this one works abit differently whereby the sire and the fledgling will always be connected through the blood bond, it borders on SEXUAL and it doesn't matter if your sire is a man or a woman. In his case, Corin was a formidable gladiator who was brought low and was about to be executed when a mysterious man turned him into a vampire and had him serve for 30 years. Sodomy is what he endured and it still gives him nightmares. When his sire grants him freedom, he is recruited by the council and never looked back since. However now a wee human managed to bring down his defenses and makes him question all that he has believed in and it doesn't sit too well with him.

OUR HEROINE is a nurse, who accidentally got some of a vampire's blood into her system when she was handling the injured man (who happens to be a vamp). I wasn't so sure how the transformation occurs, whether one needs to drink the blood and be drunk in return to be changed or just having the vamp blood in your body is enough. In any case, Jasmine was an anomaly and it intrigued Corin, apart from his obvious attraction to her. To sweeten the deal, helping one transition to a vampire includes A LOT OF SEX and that pretty much saturates the whole story until the council comes bearing down on the both of them for breaking the law.

OVERALL if there wasn't any passion and steamy scenes, this story wouldn't even be worth reading. But it is, because the chemistry was panty melting hot.

Disclaimer: I forced myself into reading this book to have one less book on my to-read shelf.
The very beginning was interesting, then I don't know why, nothing was wrong with the story, I just wasn't into it and forced myself to continue. The second half greatly improved and became more exciting. To be honest, though, the flashbacks of Corin's gladiator days were probably the most interesting part of the story. I was like tell me more, tell me more.... Moreover, the whole Jasmine is a new breed of a vampire wasn't fully fleshed out. I also didn't fully understand why Sijourn was executed.

(I marked this book as mm because it had 1.5 mm scenes, but the romance is m-f.) But the romance between the 2 characters was just based on sex. It was insta-love after a day and a lot of sex. There was no substance to it. This book wants to convince people that you can just fall in love solely by sex.

There was no good reason why Jasmine had to be killed tbh (besides the rules). And the ending I was like wtf, is going on. I seriously thought

The character development was terrific and made sense. I wished the story had been longer. The author didn't cram too much into each page, something that drives me nuts in short stories. The style reminded me of J.R.Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I'm excited to see more by Dee Carney.

This was the ultimate Vampire Lover book. Poor Jasmine had no idea about the world she stepped into by accident. Corin was there to kill her. Just added to a fun filled couple of days for her. The loves scenes are divine but not nearly enough. The story is wonderful and yes I did cry at one point. Would recommend this author to all and will be keeping an eye out for her books.

Hunger Aroused is, surprisingly, one of the best pieces of erotic literature I've read in a long time. It's surprising because the opening chapters are the biggest mood killer ever. Jasmine doesn't realize it, but she's turning into a vampire, and the early stages of her change as a flu so bad she can barely stand. Corin, the vampire sent to kill her as an unauthorized fledgling, offers her sex as a way to relieve the symptoms. After all, he doesn't have to kill her for another three days. All the makings of a great relationship, right? What woman in her right mind would turn down sex from her executioner while suffering from a horrible flu bug?

After the reader gets through the first couple of chapters. The book picks up into a good bit of drama, As the two main characters become closer, given what will happen as soon as she completes her change. The narration alternates between their points of view, making both of them very sympathetic characters. The tension comes from the difference between what they want to happen. What they know has to happen. Despite being a little jumpy at points, the plot moves at a good pace and stands well on its own, even without the excellent sex scenes. The climax (no pun intended) was strong enough that it almost pushed the book to a 5 diva rating, but the weak finale was a bit of a letdown.

The sex scenes, both with and without vampire fang action, are pleasant and intense. They go quickly but the authors make room for plenty of them. Jasmine's flu-like symptoms, leaving room for her emerging vampire nature to give her an insatiable libido. (Not as bad as in the first season of True Blood when Jason OD'ed on vamp blood, but kind of close at times.) Corin, of course, is more than willing and able to satisfy her. The sex scenes are between the two of them, with some off-stage sex between Corin and his vampire sire in flashbacks. The sensual nature of vampire feeding are about as good as the more conventional sex scenes. A good book that will be appreciated both for its story and its sexiness.

Absorbing, stimulating, exciting, and sexy, Dee Carney's "Hunger Aroused" delivers on all counts. From the moment we set foot in Jasmine George's life. You are caught up in her pain and confusion. As her body is ravaged, by what she thinks is the flu. Enter Corin Gerulaitis, Executioner for the Vampire Council. He immediately senses that what Jasmine is experiencing is not flu, but the change from human to vampire. He knows she will experience pain and sexual hunger unlike any she has ever known before, as well as how to ease the hunger. Corin also knows that Jas' was an unsanctioned turning, forbidden by the Council and punishable by death for both the fledgling and her maker.

Jasmine can hardly believe, what she is seeing when the devilishly sexy Corin appears in her bedroom. She is in the throes of the worst pain. She has ever experienced. "Please,Help me," she begs the handsome stranger, not for a second suspecting that to ease her pain, He would bring her to the heights of passion again and again.

As Corin tries to ease Jasmine's change without becoming attached to the beautiful, strong woman. He comes to question. What he has held as inviolate for hundreds of years. The council execution orders must be obeyed, always. How can he sentence to death a woman who has no maker. Who accidentally becomes a vampire, How can he kill a woman. Who moves him as no other has in all his years.

I am wonderfully impressed by Carney's "Hunger Aroused". I could not stop reading, even as I wondered how on earth. I would manage to function after being up all night reading.

But I didn't care! So swept up was I in the adventure, excitement, and painful journey of Jasmine and Corin. I could not leave them without closure! In most Romantica, we all know how the story will end but in this case. I was in tears at the end of the book. Aching for the lovers and the choices they are forced to make. Do not miss this one! Hunger Aroused was a phenomenal story. Very well written with a good flow to it and I was hooked from the first word. Corin is one smokin hot vampire and Jasmine is his perfect counterpart. Dee Carney did an excellent job with this story and I can't wait to read more by her. She ranks right up there with some of the greats in this genre.

This story is full of vivid imagery and details that make it almost appear like it's unfolding right in front of the reader.

This was the first time that I have ever read anything from Dee Carney. I now need to go on a massive book hunt so that I can find more of her work. Her writing is very refreshing.

This is the story of an accidental vampire. Jasmine had no idea that she was transitioning into a vampire. The only thing she did know was that she was sick. Real sick with what she thought was the flu. Being sent home while on the job was hard for her no nonsense type attitude, but her boss had been right to send her home. Grateful but still reluctant she heads home. When she abruptly walks into a very intense sexy stranger. He appears angered by their chance meet. Jasmine's too sick to pay attention to his anger or why it should bother him, either way. Sure she looked like death warmed over but that wasn't her fault!

Corin's an executioner for The Council. Its against the law to make new vampires and had there been a new one sanctioned he of all people would know about it, as this was his territory. Of course he will have to end her life the code requires nothing less but for him to follow and mete out her death which will take place in three days after her transition. He comes to kill but instead he finds that his goals are of course not her goals.

Does Jasmine want to die? Hell NO! It's not her fault she is becoming a vampire, and she know's nothing of this "sire" that Corin believe's she has. He describes heighten passion an intense sexual feeling that over takes her nothing of what she has experienced, hell ever. But before Corin decides if he should kill her the two embark on a journey to find out the source of her transition. Everything and everyone are not what they seem. The passion that develops between the two is something that neither of them expected. To Corin helping her through her transition is no hardship, but in the end he knows that he will end her life. Jasmine is ever thankful for his help but doesn't like the detachment she feels after their intimate moments are over, the only way to slate the fire that pains her during her transition is something spicy, or chocolate, or the hands of an expect lover to bring her release which in turn release Endorphins. Tricky tricky is what I say.

I throughly enjoyed reading this! Loved the back story and the way that their two fates are similar, congruent to one another. Cornin was mortal at one time in his life and was facing a mortal death in three days time out in the arena.... (Bring on the gladiators!) Where as Jasmine is facing certain death in three days as well, under different circumstance.

The two develop feelings for one another and as Cornin struggles with his duty and his heart Jasmine struggles with her heart and the will to live. Its passionate and amazing story that has you wanted to continue on. Which is exactly what I did. I love stories that pull on the heart strings and this story did just that.

I gave it 4 stiletto's. It had all the elements and components of an awesome story. Exactly how it should be... Will be looking for more of Dee's stuff and adding them to my ever growing TBR Pile

I'm not really sure what I think about this book. There are quite a few things that I enjoyed thoroughly, but there are also quite a few things that definitely didn't do it for me.

What worked for me:
* I really liked that Jasmine was a fighter, and refused to just "lay down and die" so to speak. The injustice of having to be destroyed simply because she "shouldn't have been created" was a grievous one and I for one applaud her for keeping her head and rolling with the punches as needed to keep her alive.

* I liked the pacing. Things never really slowed down for these two, but at the same time, things weren't so intense that I as a reader felt exhausted after reading, which often happens with stories where the main characters are on the run.

* Our hero was an assassin. I need say no more ;)

* I also really liked the idea that Jasmine was quite possibly a new breed of vampire. It seemed fitting, for lack of a better word, that she would be something special so to speak.

What didn't work for me:
* I didn't like the fact that Corin has another mate, especially given the circumstances of his having taken that particular mate. It's almost, to me, like having a commitment ceremony with the new love of your life rather than marrying them, because you can't or don't want to go through the mess of an actual divorce. In the grand scheme of things, he's still bonded to his previous mate, and that bond theoretically could be called upon in the future, and frankly I don't like that type of loose end. I didn't really count off on this on my rating, however, because that's more one of my personal foibles when reading romance or erotica.

* On the same note, there are somewhat graphic depictions of m/m rape in this story. While I certainly appreciate the fact that this helps the reader truly understand the horror of Corin's past, it still made me very uncomfortable and I think I would've added an entire other star to my rating had Dee Carney simply glossed over these encounters and experiences rather than making us relive them with the hero. Granted, they aren't explicit, but they are most definitely enough to make sensitive readers very uncomfortable.

* I was also squicked by the "testing" done on Jasmine. It was very reminiscent of something you might read in some of Christine Feehan's later Ghostwalkers series, which is honestly the main reason I stopped reading that series. The testing was only a minor point in the story though, and could fairly easily be skimmed over by the reader.

Believe it or not though, I did enjoy the story quite a bit. I'm going to say 3.5/5 for my final rating, though I think for readers who are prepared for Corin's flashbacks, the rating will likely be higher.

Book Type: Paranormal Romance/Erotica
Length/File Size Kindle Edition 361KB
Paranormal Species: Vampires and 1 Unknown Other

Characters:
Jasmine George, RN: Has been turned by unknown means, a loner, thinks she has the flu
Corin: Executioner for the Vampire Council, Formerly a Gladiator, Sire raped/enslaved him for 30 years.
Councilman Sage: Corin's contact on the council
Ezra: Unknown supernatural species, bar owner
Gregory: Gay bartender with a decade long crush on Corin
Cartius Primus: Corin's Domina to whom he has been blood bonded

Sex: F/M and M/M, rape
Plot line: The synopsis above is pretty much on target.

I thought the process through which her executioner becomes her lover and her love was interesting. The Council's justice was bizarre. How could you justify killing an innocent who had been turned, in order to, I assume for it is not said, protect humans and thus protect Vampires? Since at the very beginning it is implied that this mysterious turning is serial, there is obviously something going around. You would think the Council would come up with something else.

Originally Reviewed on www.fangswandsandfairydust.com

In this scenario Carey offers a new twist on vampire turning, with the process taking three days and occurring in waves of fever and abdominal pain requiring first, some sort of catharsis and then, once the teeth start to form, blood.

Jasmine meets Corin in the worst condition. After giving her the female version of a happy ending, he tells her he has to kill her in three days, not now, but after she has turned. Until then he will provide her with sex so she isn't in pain. Problem is that he starts to doubt the Council's meting out of the death sentence. An issue he has had before. In a sort of reverse Stockholm Syndrome he gets too attached to and protective of Jasmine. As is the way of PNR/E they fall in love.

The story goes through a period that reminds me of the Harrison Ford film, The Fugitive in that at some point the situation is so hopeless you believe he will be forced to kill her. That point had me a bit verklempt—I always have a tough time with hopelessness. I personally found the intimate scenes very sexy. I did find how she completely trusted him to find a way out for them a bit silly as was her acceptance that he would kill her in three days. She only tries to get away one time.

This is a short read and it took me about two hours. If I had to give a grade I would say it is a B as the characters were a bit on the typical side or conveniently complacent.

Although there were some problems with bad editing, Ms. Carney pulled off a great story. I will warn you now, if you can't handle erotica, don't bother reading this book. For smut lovers, this one needs to be in your collection.

This book is about a 30ish single nurse who leaves work gravely ill from a medical mystery. She stumbles into a man on her way home, a chance encounter, that changes the course of her life. Her name is Jasmine (I had to get over that personal ick) and unknown to her, she is in the process of becoming a vampire. The stranger is Corin, an Executioner of unauthorized vamp newbies. He follows her home with the intention of killing her and bringing her sire to justice. Of couse, there are complications such as she has not been bitten but accidently exposed by a careless needle prick while at work also he can't kill her while she retains her humanity (a matter of 3 days). While she is transitioning, she is in extrem pain that can only be cured one of three ways -- chocolate, spicey food, or sex. Well her frig and cabinets are empty, so....

I was impressed with the love story and the vampire mythology. There were moments in the book that made me laugh but many that brought tears to my eyes. Corin did not become what he was without having paid a high price after being turned against his will by a very sick individual who enslaved him. There are several interesting characters that round out the cast, ironically, all are men. Not knowing Ms. Carney's writing style, I was not sure how this one would play out. This was a nail bitter to the last scene. I never would have expected that an erotica novel would make me hot one minute, cry the next, then cringe. It's good stuff.

Five stars for the story. I won't take points for slack editing. I will also let it go that the vamps were daywalkers, had no special powers, and did not have the ability to enthrall or mind-meld. Sorry but I started this vamp obsession with Christine Feehan. As for the typos, I am beginning to wonder if anyone checks these ebooks or if it's done by some computer software.

Jasmine has been taken ill, so ill she feels like she's going to die. Little does she know, in a matter of a few short days, her illness may prove to be as deadly as she thinks it is. Somehow, she become infected with the unimaginable, and there's no cure.

Corin is an executioner, and he's very good at his job, the Council calls him whenever there's a difficult job and someone as broken the rules. But now he comes to question if maybe the rules haven't become arcane themselves, especially after he meets Jasmine.

Hunger Aroused by Dee Carney is a steamy paranormal romance that really heated up the pages. As Corin passed Jasmine on the street, he scents the distinctive odor of a newly turned vampire, but no one has asked to turn a female... and the Vampire Council frowns upon having it's rule flouted. The answer to the problem has always been clear, once the fledgling vampire has finished transition, the Council demands the death of the sire and the fledgling. But, what if there wasn't any sire, what if it's an accident that should not have happened? This is where we find Jasmine and Corin, fledgling vampire and vampire executioner. But will he kill her or will he keep her, all to himself?

Hunger Aroused is an incredibly short read, approximately two hours of reading time. This little paranormal romance was exactly what I needed for the chill of a winter's day. It was a fast read, a hot romance, and evil vampires ready to kill if necessary, and by the worse possible means. The Council is heartless, unredeeming, set in it's way and refusing to see the possibility of a sireless vampire. It takes Corin's promise to bring death, and away around it, to see the error of their ways. This is the first book I've read by Ms. Carney, but it won't be the last. Nicely told twist of the vampire genre, more than pleasing to my palate. If you'd like more information about Ms. Carney visit her website.

Sexy Stand-Alone Vampire Romance (3 stars)

The last thing lonely, hard working Jasmine expected when she went home sick was to wake up with a stranger in her apartment. Especially a sexy stranger sent to kill her because it's not the flu she's suffering from. As miserable as a cat in heat she's going through a vampire's transition. Only Jas has no idea why and Corin is there to find out who sired her without permission then make an example out of them both. In spite of his stony exterior Corin can't help but wonder if it's possible she really has no clue how she's come to be at the turn.

When the Council that sent him to slay Jas decides he's gone rogue they send someone else to do the job and the pair flee hoping to find some answers. A passionate mix of danger, sex and betrayal will bring Corin and Jasmine to the edge of hunger.

I really wanted to like this one. It has elements I love... a gladiator turned vampire, a hero and heroine I liked and vampires with rules. Unfortunately, it all felt flat. Its pacing was a little too stop-start for my tastes making it far too easy to put down. The plot seemed to consist mostly of flee, sex, more fleeing, more sex and so on. The sex was hot, the plot was not.

Readers who don't want any details regarding how a hero was raped by another man for decades might also find some of the flashback scenes a little hard to stomach. I'd personally have preferred more hint, less visual for those parts.

I would recommend this one to a reader who is looking for low plot, steamy erotica and doesn't have a problem reading the above mentioned rape bits. While I didn't like this one I think it gave me a good feel for the authors writing and I'll be looking into other work she's written.

Hunger Aroused is the first book in this series. I really liked this book. It was a fantastic introduction into Dee’s world of vampires. It’s hot, it’s erotic, it’s AWESOME! Yes. Yes. I loved it. It was quick, it was dirty, it was…….hmmm…….

Jasmine gets sick one day while at work. She’s nurse at a local hospital. Her boss sends her home and along the way she passes by Corin, who happens to be a vampire executioner. He’s on order by the vampire council. Jasmine’s turning wasn’t sanctioned by the council. That means as soon as she’s a full vampire, he’ll have to kill her. He’ll also have to find her sire and kill them. What a mess.

Along the way, Corin starts to feel something for Jasmine. He’ll kill her if he’s ordered to. He’s just hoping to find a way to not kill her. He wants to keep her.

This was an amazingly hot vampire story. It had some elements of vampire stories we’ve seen before but it also has some new ones. Vampires are intensely erotic in this story. There’s an added bit of mystery to this story. First, we don’t know who Jasmine’s sire is. Second, there’s an undercurrent in the story that tells of a something larger brewing.

So, we have hot erotic vampire sex. We have a mystery of the sire. We have something larger brewing. We also get a hint that vampires are not the only supernatural creatures out there. Nothing is ever said out loud about it, but there’s definitely a hint or two of something…….else.

All of these things add up to make an amazingly intense, hot, erotic vampire love story.

Jasmine things she has the flu, but actually, somewhere along the way—probably at her nursing job in the hospital ER—she managed to become infected with vampirism. Corin, is a vampire assassin. He is charged by the Council to enforce the rules against unapproved turnings. Typically this would mean monitoring the three day transition and then destroying the new vamp as well as the maker. Unfortunately, Jasmine doesn’t have a maker to guide her through the painful transition. Since Corin is not allowed to kill a human and must wait for her transition to be complete, he must assume the role of maker and help her. (Of course one of the ways to ease the pain of transition just so happens to be sex, so you can tell how big of a hardship this is for him.) Along the way, he finds his feelings for Jasmine grow. Will he be able to kill her in the end?

I am a total vampire lover, but this book left me lukewarm. I thought the concept was good, but the love story was unbelievable. I get the whole “You complete me thing” since he’s a killer and she’s a healer, but that doesn’t seem like enough to build a relationship on. I did enjoy Corin’s back story, about how he was tortured in the early years of his immortality. In fact, I liked Corin as a character. It was really Jasmine that I found lacking depth. For an erotic novel, there was plenty of sex—I just like sex scenes to be backed up with a compelling love story.

Overall I give HUNGER AROUSED…

To be fair, while Hunger Aroused's story is pretty much your basic hardcore romance set in bland Generic Vampire World A, it's also one of the least crazy/thinly-veiled excuses for stringing together sex scenes that I've read so far. Granted, my experience with 'erotica' is limited to four books, but hey, I've still read dumber. Then again, if we're to judge erotica on different standards, perhaps this book's restraint and blandness doesn't work in its favor? I mean, where a story about a reformed vengeance demon whose split personalities must be integrated into one healthy persona by her two bisexual werecat lovers via sex might be a laughable concept for paranormal romance novel, as paranormal erotica, it's...well, still laughable, but at least serves its purpose in providing a wide range of diverse and pretty wild sexual encounters.

Hunger Aroused, on the other hand, is more restrained with its storyline, characters, and setting, but suffers from, again, serious blandness and a distinct lack of variety. Of sex, in case that wasn't clear. The most extreme our two leads get is sex on an open street at like 3 a.m. (sex with a stranger notwithstanding, since that seems to be an erotica must). That's pretty kinky in the real world, but after reading about demon-werecat threesomes and wingering (angels - think about it. And no, I'm not kidding), it's almost quaint. I'm not saying you have to involve other parties or species or anything, but when the Sookie Stackhouse series has hotter sex scenes than your erotica novel, perhaps you should rethink your genre...

When I first started reading this book I was a little baffled about how the vampire transformation occurred. Jasmine just thinks that she's coming down with some random bug and feels like death-warmed-over. When she finally reaches the comfort of her bed, vampire executioner Cornin is there to take her back to the council so that she can be disposed of. Sounds like a great scenario huh? Yeah well just when he thinks that his plan won't have any hiccups, Cornin finds himself helping Jasmine through her transformation. (and when I say help I mean all hands on deck, if ya know what I mean). A job that is usually performed by her sire, who just happens to be MIA, is now falling into the unwilling hands of this centuries old executioner.

While reading this book I seemed to find my heart going out to Jasmine, a lot. Being turned against her will, and not knowing how it happened, having to trust her new vampire life in the hands of the one man who tells her he's going to have to kill her, then on top of that having some weird egocentric vampire after your blood so he can experiment on you. Poor girl, all she wants to do it go back to her old life. She never asked for any of this! Now here she is stuck in vampire hell with the mother of all killers as the only person she can turn to, and unknown to her he's starting to realize that there's other things in life more important then killing and revenge.

For my second erotica novel I was truly blown away with how Dee was able to balance the sex, action, and a great story line. You could tell that writing steaminess is what she does, but she's also a great author who can tell a fantastic story!

I must admit that I avoided vampire novels for a long time. With so many out there, I just felt overwhelmed. After reading excerpts from 'Hunger Aroused' on Dee's Six Sentence Sunday blog posts, I decided to buy it shortly after its release. I wish I'd read it sooner.

Wow! These vampires are drool-worthy, perhaps not all of them, but most definitely Corin. I just couldn't get enough. Corin and Jasmine seemed so real. When Jasmine went through her change, her reactions were exactly what I imagine I would feel. She's not one to accept becoming a vampire so easily.

Not only does Dee write great characters, but the plot of Hunger Aroused kept me guessing, especially the ending. What I expected to happen never seemed to happen, but I wasn't disappointed. And let me tell you, her sex scenes are HOT!!

Hunger Aroused is full of emotion. Not only was I fanning myself, but my heart raced as the characters fought for their lives, and Dee made me cry. I love when an author can make me do that.
