This book has been written to outline the worldview, practices and history of Islam, to help non–Muslims understand their Muslim friends and neighbours better. Topics covered include the Islamic sacred books and articles of faith, the key religious observances, and the differences to be found among Muslims. The story of Islam is traced from its beginnings in the 7th century to the present. Non–Muslims who read this book will gain an understanding of why Muslims think and act as they do.
A must read if you have Muslim friends, neighbors or co-workers, or if you desire to do missions in an Islamic country. This little books offers merely the basics, but I learned so much!
This is a good intro to Islam; quick overview of the religion. I appreciated chapter 10 the most as the author gave counsel as to how to help a new Christian that has converted from Islam. I also like the approach Sookhdeo took as treating the Muslim as a person...a friend... and with respect still keeping the light of Christ front and center.
Very good "for dummies" guide to start learning the basics about this fascinating confession, followed by 1.8 billion people in the world. It gives you all the foundations to go deep in more specific aspects of the creed. Very good and concise.
Quite disappointed at the purposeful deceptiveness that is done by the author in this book after what seemed a promising start. Informative for a layman who wants a very basic (& skewed) idea of Islam
A really helpful, and brief, overview of Islam. This text will help those with a number of questions, and points to where you can learn more. The glossary is worth the read alone.
A quick read with some very basic information about Islam. Informative, but the final few chapters seem to show a lack of understanding regarding how to relate to people converting from other faiths. The last chapter even goes so far as to say that the church should arrange marriages for converts from Islam. No mention is made of giving council or advice to new converts.
Informative and short, but not practically helpful in regard to conversion or interpersonal relationships.
