Immortal Obsession is a must read for all paranormal romance fans! While very reminiscent of Anne Rice’s vampire novels, make no mistake, it is all very different and very much original. Rago takes vampire lore and turns it on its head. I was entranced from the very first page. ~ Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews ~ 5 Stars When the last descendant of a French-Revolution era vampire and his mortal aristocratic lover witnesses her brother’s savage murder in New York City’s Central Park - and narrowly escapes her own demise - an ethereal stranger begins to draw her even deeper into a previously unimaginable world. In this gripping paranormal romance, the beautiful, young Amanda Perretti, a promising museum curator, becomes entangled with a group of French vampires who carry their eighteenth century grudges into twenty-first century New York. Desperate to find the stranger who saves her life that fateful night, Amanda pursues her brother’s killer from the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Goth clubs of the East Village. After meeting the heroic vampire who intervened on her behalf, Amanda becomes increasingly torn between the wish to preserve her cherished career and her safe, “normal” life and her growing desire for the handsome, alluring vampire Christian Du Mauré. Ultimately, Amanda finds herself falling deeper into the dangerous realm of immortals, as not one but two vampires vie for her love. Full of intrigue and suspense, yet grounded in artfully drawn characters and settings, this historical love story follows the journey of the mortal yet courageous Amanda as she discovers far more about herself than she ever dreamed possible. What fabulous read!!! I love vampire reads and also love history and Denise K. Rago has combined both to create a world of beautiful immortals that took my breath away at times. Theirs passion, romance and a storyline that blended present day and Paris during the French revolution with characters that were intriguing and savage. Christian and Michel's love and friendship from before they were turned to now was so deeply beautiful their bond goes deep . I adore both these vamps. I also loved Amanda, she is a strong likeable character and her and Christian are magic together. This is a romance, but it is so much more. The villians like vampiress Solange who is a savage blood thirsty demented beauty who wants to kill the old ones and rule,is just one of the many interesting and deadly predators we meet. Theirs a lot going on in this book and it keeps your attention from beginning to end and twists and turns are many. And their story is only getting started . Next up in The enchanted bloodline series Blood Tears!!! Can't wait to read more from this amazingly talented writer. Until next time luv's💞💋

Not for me 32% vampire cruising on his daughter’s descendant some years after he ditches his lover in a house fire during the French Revolution. (She’s her doppleganger btw) might be for you if you like gothic vampires that don’t get their blood from blood banks.

P.S. The vamps also prey on the homeless and drug addicts to drain and kill bc..who cares right? There’s a strange comment about Michel (one of the men in the love triangle hinted at later, manwhore) who’s flirting with an “overweight blonde”) 🙄

Crossposted from my blog I Work For Books
I won a copy of this book and Ms Rago also sent me a great postcard.(Thank you! XD)
I was immediately drawn to this book not only because of the synopsis (having an immortal stalker y/y?XD), but also because of the gorgeous cover.

I think I may have started reading this the day after receiving it because I couldn't wait.
The book follows a centuries-old vampire, Christian from Paris to New York after a tragic conflict with his sire and the rest of her vampire party.
Christian was turned into a vampire shortly before the French revolution, not able to withstand the pain of living separate from his lifelong friend, Michel who had already been turned.
Embracing his vampiric nature came the blood lust, strength, speed and heightened senses, but also the eternal struggle for power. Had he been turned by another sire maybe things would be different, but Gabrielle was a shallow, selfish and cruel vampire who only craved for power and dominance over other vampires and the world.
Vampires often took mortal lovers and it wasn't long until Christian fell in love with a beautiful, dark-haired woman, Josette, who sadly, belonged to another vampire, Gaetan, unavoidably leading to a feud between them. And if that wasn't enough, his sire Gabrielle is not one to tolerate one of her "children" to fall in love with another woman, let alone a human woman.
When Josette dies at a fire, she confides in him that her child is his and beseeches him to take her with him. That he does and as he flees to New York, his daughter Solange grows up without knowledge of her true nature as half-human,half vampire, as he wants her to have a happy life.
She lives on and has children and when eventually she becomes a vampire she becomes a vicious one and joins forces with the vampire family he left behind.
Betrayed by his own child, he vows to look after her human descendants and protect them.
It is present day in New York and her last descendants are Amanda, who takes after Josette physically and her brother, Ryan. Amanda is working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has a love for anything French, particularly around the era of the French Revolution, whereas Ryan always gets into trouble, doing drugs, living on the edge as a bump and always asking Amanda for money.
His latest trouble is that he lets vampires feast on his blood underground, constantly putting himself in danger. What he doesn't know is that because he is a hybrid, his blood is not only irresistible to vampires, but can also give them the ability to walk in sunlight.
Although, it has been agreed that Gaetan and Christian will never meet again, Gaetan comes from Paris to New York following Lucien and by chance feeds on Ryan discovering his secret. Drawn by lust, his need for revenge and the intoxication of being able to walk in the day, Gaetan plans to use Amanda in his game. Amanda witnesses her other's murder by Gaetan and when Christian saves her she is unwillingly and unexpectedly entangled in the webs of an centuries-old struggle for power and revenge.

~ I must say I really enjoyed this book. I really like things that have to do with France, even though I can't for the life of me learn French (believe me, I've tried, I'm horrible at it).
One of the things I loved the most about this book was its wonderful and vivid descriptions. When Ms Rago describes a building or a scenery, she makes you feel as if you are there basking in the glory of architecture crafted hundreds of years ago.
I found myself mesmerized by the details of the architecture and everything from the French Revolution to today.
Even though I haven't read that many things about that era and I really haven't traveled abroad to know what Central Park is like of the Metropolitan Museum, somehow reading this I felt like I was there and seeing all that was part of my daily life. There's a lot to be said about authors who can do that.

Similarly good was the description of emotions and thoughts by the characters and it felt like being inside their heads, sensing their agony and torment.
The premise of the book was quite original and it remind a bit (a tiny tiny bit and if you squint- and usually do :P) of the show Moonlight, where the protagonist saved a a woman as a child and is still protecting her in her late twenties.( I loved the show btw)

In the first couple of chapters I got a little confused with the characters, because they were quite a few (Christian, Michel, Josette, Solange, Gabriel, Gaetan,Amanda, Ryan, Lucien, Etienne, Antoine, Thomas, Bethany, but in the end the most important ones were quite distinct and had their place and purpose.
I very much liked Amanda as the main female character, because she was strong and resilient and wouldn't back down. I wouldn't exactly call her fearless (that would be stupid under the circumstances), but after watching her brother get killed by Lucien (although he got his due by Gaetan) and a stranger saving her, it took a lot of courage and guts to actually go after the man that saved you, knowing there's something supernatural and so dangerous about him. Lucien lifted her brother as if he was nothing and killed him, something a normal human wouldn't be able to do. She wants answers and her brother's killer caught and punished and continually pressures the Detective in charge of the investigation (Thomas)into taking action.

It is by sheer luck that Thomas and Christian "work" together and she meets him in the policeman's office and after that she keeps coming after him - at his place, at his bar- demanding that he tells her what he knows.

The development of the romance between Christian and Amanda is also very good. Gradual, believable and undeniable. At first, Christian tries to pull away thinking that Amanda is a descendant of his daughters (hello? incest-like!), but as the story progresses we understand what's at play.
Even though Christian is a vampire, there's a sense of nobility in him, mostly because he values the concept of duty and protecting one's family, but he doesn't deny his true nature and I quite flinched at a scene where he grabs a bump on the street and feeds on him till he dies and then throws his lifeless body in the river.

Nothing is black and white but there are numerous of shades of gray in-between and I found that quite honest and real.

Michel, Christian's best friend, was another character I really loved. He comes off as a womanizer, who plans (and succeeds) in sleeping with all of the women in the city and I found myself wondering if that was the only thing about him. But gradually we come to understand that Michel is also a tragic character, compelled to keep a terrible secret from his friend, feeling guilty and it is this guilt, this sense of abandonment and failure that prevents him from giving his heart to a woman or asking it in return, instead settling for what he could have without bonding, sex.

I loved how it all played out and the ending. It put a smile on my face and I'm actually wondering if there will be a sequel! XD

Verdict: Great book. If you love tormented love stories, where vampires and humans intertwine in more ways than one, not just for sex, but also for comfort and companionship and would love to read about the power struggle that can permeate the vampire society and its repercussions, then this story is for you. There's intrigue, romance, mystery, (vampire) politics, friendship, banter, a strong female lead and corruption, loyalty, betrayal and ...well everything... Read it!

Rating: I'm giving this 4 1/2 stars because although it is a fascinating read, I got confused at first with all the names and believe that we could have done with fewer. I understand, however, that the multitude of characters was important to stress the whole vampire society and all the intrigue and power play, so it wasn't a big problem. :)

I want to thank Denise so much for sending me a copy to review and bringing the sexy French Vampires into my life.

Immortal Obsession is a fast paced book that centres around the life of a french vampire Christian as he trys to protect Amanda, a woman who he believes at first that she is his descendant. However, as the story continue we learn that not all is as it seems.

There are two main vampire characters Christian and Michel. Both French (swoon), both incredibly sexy and has the females throwing themself at them, especially Michel. Christian is very easy to connect to, for a vampire he is still in touch with his humanity and through Denise's wonderful writing we really get inside his head and can feel everything he is going through. Michel is the ladys favourite in the story they are all falling over themselves to get him. Even though is does come off very selfish and arogant. That didn't stop me liking him though. The friendship between the two is still as strong as it has been when they were human and after centures they still have a very strong bond to each other.

The main human character is a woman called Amanda. She is brave, strong and when introduced to the world of vampires she isn't afraid. She feels a connection to Christian and we get to read the ups and downs of their lifes with some amazing twists you do not see comin.

The thing that I truely loved about this is that even though there is a romance at the centre of the story its not that lovely dovey make you sick romance. Its doesn't get in the way of the plot which I find not alot of authors can do.

So if you want a a truely amazing and unique read then pick this up. It will not disappoint with its fast paced story and wonderful characters that will take you into their lifes in the past and the present. And whats not to love about French Vampires?

The vampire Christian Du Mauré loses his married mortal aristocrat lover Josette during the French Revolution. Before she dies, she reveals to Christian that her daughter, Solange, is really his child and makes him swear to care for her always.

Fast forward two centuries later, in modern day New York, where Christian lives with his best friend Michel. When they were mortals, Christian and Michel were inseparable.

As soon as I began reading Immortal Obsession I was easily swept into the storyline. I really liked the modern-day New York setting, this being one of my favorite places I could easily visualize the sights and sounds of the city.

I like Denise K. Rago's vampires, they remind me of Anne Rice's immortals, with their beauty and seductiveness. I liked Christian and how he still kept a shred of humanity within himself.
There is also a very strong bond between Christian and Michel, and the two are like soulmates.

If you're in the mood for a good romance with paranormal aspects, I recommend Immortal Obsession. This is Denise K. Rago's debut novel, and I hope to read more of her work someday. She leaves the ending wide open for a sequel.

Immortal Obsession was a great vampire book. The author's writing style reminded me a lot of Anne Rice's. The plot had me turning pages late into the night wondering what was going to happen next. There were no plot holes or editing mistakes that I found. There were several plot twists and turns. I figured out one of them near the beginning of the book. One of the characters dies, and that took me by surprise. I was sad when it happened. I really liked the character. The cover looks beautiful. I like how the red/orange and dark blue look together. I also like that the fountain is on the cover, since it plays a big role in the book. I liked all of the characters. I think my favorite character was Michel. I liked his attitude and his fashion sense. He wasn't afraid to introduce Amanda into his world. He also gave Amanda a little push in the right direction by telling her to go drop the note off to Christian. Immortal Obsession was a wonderful book. I would definitely read it again. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I recommend it for fans of paranormal romance. I also recommend it for Anne Rice fans.

This is Denise K. Rago's first novel and it proved to be a very enjoyaable read!

The novel is set in present day Manhattan with flashbacks to Paris in the times of the French Revolution. The story is centred around vampire Christian Du Maure and his life. This is not a story for those who like fluffy vampires, they are dark and they kill which, personally, is how I like my vampires. Christian has been looking after his descendants since he had a child with a mortal woman in Paris and he is currently looking after the last two in his line. Ryan and Amanda are brother and sister and their blood has the ability to allow vampires to walk in the daylight and this brings danger to their door. The attraction between Christian and Amanda is immediate, and before anyone says can say incest don't worry this book doesn't go down that disturbing avenue.

This book delivered all elements. Romance, horror, thriller it's all there!

THis was a gift from the author and what a gift it was. This book is a great vampire read. The characters draw you in.
There wasnt quit as much love story as i would have liked but it all worked out in the end. It does leave the door open for a sequel.
The story line is well written and well executed. I love the jump from past to presant.
The main character makes you feel what she feels. and I felt for christian the vampire too. I was just sucked in with these two characters. It is a book that in my opinion should be in any vampire collection.

Immortal Obsession by Denise K. Rago is a must read for all paranormal romance fans! It’s very reminiscent of Anne Rice’s vampire novels, but make no mistake, it is all very different and very much original. Rago takes vampire lore and turns it on its head. I was entranced from the very first pages.

The book has a whole cast of characters, but they never get lost within the story. It is told in different POVs, but it’s mostly told in Christian and Amanda’s voice. One other main character, Gaetan, has a voice as well.

Christian is a somewhat tortured soul. He fled the French Revolution and warring vampire factions with his friend, Michel, but left his mortal love, Josette, behind facing her own death. You might think that would be the end of the story, but his affair with her will have far-reaching consequences through the centuries to present day, New York. Amanda, who by all appearances is normal, is at the center of all of it. Her life is in danger, and Christian will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. However, he wasn’t prepared to fall in love with her. I’m not surprised by that as he is one of the only vampires left with some of his humanity.

Amanda is an intelligent woman, and she won me over with her love of history. She is also tenacious, stopping at nothing to solve her brother’s murder. She knows it is somehow connected with Christian’s club. She is initially torn between two vampires, but I liked that she was decisive once she knew her heart belonged to Christian.

Now, Gaetan, is quite the complicated character. He isn’t easy to like at all. He has lost so much of his humanity over his many years as a vampire. So, it’s amazing how Rago can show her readers his human side, and yet we know the dastardly deed he must commit to keep that part of himself. I cannot believe I’m writing this, but I almost felt sorry for him in some ways.

Not only were the characters the type who pull you into the story, but the storyline itself drew me in. There was love, romance, and betrayal. All those things kept me flying through the book.

I have read some reviews about this not being a very well-written book. I’m not sure if the book has been through edits, but I found it to be very well-written. Her descriptive writing, especially Christian’s memories, put me right there in the book with him.

The ending opened up even more questions and possibilities. I have a feeling the next book will have even more twists and turns. I cannot wait to read it!!!

Re-Visited Review - 2023

Immortal Obsession by Denise K. Rago is a fantastic Paranormal Romance Read with bits of suspense and thriller fiction. It definitely gives points of view off the Annie Rice vibes. The writing is very descriptive and you can almost see it play out in front of you, and you could easily visualize the sights and sounds of the city. The story plays out from many different points of view. Of course mainly Amanda & Christian's. Which helps to get full knowledge of what's going on with everyone.

Tortured Hero (Don't we just love those types) Christian fled the French Revolution, leaving his lover behind. Finding out later he has a child; who he vows to watch over and protect the lineage over the centuries. Solange, Christian's Daughter, Grows resentful towards him because he wanted her to live a normal fulfilled life. Eventually becomes a vampire herself. Amanda, who works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is in danger after her brother's death. Christian does whatever he can to keep her safe. Amanda is out to solve her brother's murder. Unexpected fall in love (I wot tell you who). Michel is a handsome and close friend of Christian. Growing up together, and living the vampire life together in a tight comradeship. Then you have Gaetan. Consumed by the vampire life, has no humanity. He is a bit selfish, but you start to feel bad for him. There are so many other characters. It's a beautiful setup for multiple books to come.

There are several plot twists, turns, and surprises to look forward to. It's erotic, interesting, and exquisitely engaging. I am on the fence about Michel. Yes, he is beautiful and has moments where you can just fall for him. I just can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's the sharing factor... You'll see what I mean when you read this book. Not a bad thing. Actually, a lot of popular books have that "theme". Anyways, Like I was saying very diverse and complex characters. Amanda is personable, inquisitive, and loyal to a fault, making her a worthy heroine. The ending was explosive. Very well set up for the next book.

The cover is amazing. Even though I do enjoy the hot men on most book covers, I like how this one is more on the beautiful and classy side. It definitely pulls you in. Not so much in a lust factor kind of way, but of the architectural beauty of the design. Intrigues the mind.

There are too many good things I can say about this book, I struggle with not giving away so many spoilers. It is a recommended read, especially for Anne Rice Fans. 5-star rating from me.

Book two, Blood Tears, is available now and is being showcased on Were Vamps Romance on Oct. 31st. Just in time for the Release of, Eternal Hunger, book three in The Enchanted Bloodline Series. So Mark your calendars!

Review 2011

This book is VERY far from disappointing. Ok for starters, who wouldn’t love a sexy French vampire? This book is mad house crazy, a whirlwind of events. It is fast pace, will never let you up for air, and I doubt you would ever want to. Nothing is as it seems. I found the twists to be unpredictable. The characters are completely relatable and very well-developed. The way Ms. Rago writes you feel like you’ve known the characters (esp. Christian) all your life. It will leave you yearning for more. By the time I finished reading this review copy, all I had to tell Ms. Rago was “Wow”. I HIGHLY Recommend you pick up your copy.

Come Check out her interview and more at:

Personal Note:

This lady is awesome! 100% Awesome. I have never met her in my life, but I am so happy I know her now! I am happy she signed up for my Authors Month in April Event. As you may notice this month was packed with authors from every level. From the NYT Best Sellers to the new and upcoming. All of them were nice. I would work with them again. With that said, I would like to point out how Ms. Denise K. Rago has gone the extra mile.

Most of you may have noticed that on every single post this month Ms. Rago, has commented. For most of them, she was the 1st to comment. She takes the time to not only make READERS feel like they are number one in her book, but also this newbie blogger. I received a print copy of her book to review, asked/received her the interview questions After gave her the review, and After I let her know that I seriously believe (and still do) she will undoubtedly make it to the NYT Best Sellers list. After all, that was done and over, The post was done, She still made an effort to come and visit my little blog every day. She not only visited, but she read, commented, and participated in everything.

We are not talking about the normal meet-and-greet time people get with authors. This was not just 5-15 minutes to get to sit and talk with this author. It was literally every day. This author blows me away. I truly mean it when I say it is an honor to showcase this very special Guest author and her work. I do believe you will see her on the NYT Best Sellers List very soon. Her work is awesome. She is my Newest Favorite Author.

BTW…
She doesn’t know I just added this, so she shall be surprised as well. (April 21,2011).

I was thrilled when Denise K. Rago sent me her recent, and first, novel titled “Immortal Obsession.” I love a good vampire read. I teased her when writing her to say I received the book, because when I opened the package in the mail, the package sliced my finger and I bled. Can’t get more ironic than that! I wondered what I was in for!

As far as the book, I didn’t know what to expect at first, since it was her debut attempt; however, I was more than willing to give it a try. Now, I know you all might say that the time is ripe for vampire thrillers with the onset of the Twilight series and there are a million to choose from. Let me tell you that this is one you WANT to choose! Some of us have always loved historical paranormal romances in the vein of Anne Rice and it is nice to see someone penning a novel along that line again. My love of historical fiction and art, coupled with a desire of the paranormal, led me to delve into this book with high expectations. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed! This was a superb read! Intrigue, mystery, love, history, art all rolled-up into a page-turning delight of words.

I was given this book by the author and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The story was do different than any other vampire story I've read. The ideas and concepts keep you engaged and constantly wondering what's happening next. The main characters Christian and Michel are amazing, vampires who are as close as you can be, they have seen and lived through so much but things are about to get very complicated for them, and a long line of others characters who are all crucial to this story. The history and background for each character is so detailed and flawless. You can't help but get involved and empathise with them, regardless of their supernatural status. This isn't the usual vampire falls for a human, refrains for killing etc, all the vampires feed and kill when required. This story has special humans with blood that call vampires to them, this story also includes immortals procreating with mortals which is great although not unique the concept certainly is. It's difficult to go into details regarding the story because it's so full of plots, twists and turns. The love story is not straight forward but very complicated however I'm hoping the author will conclude all storylines in the end. Overall a great read and a must for paranormal lovers.

I just finished Denise's debut novel and loved it.

I was a bit afraid at first that it would be 'just' a paranormal romance, because I usually read more paranormal mysteries. But... surprise!!! The book is far from ‘just’ a paranormal romance.
In fact it’s a real page-turner and I was not able to put it down (completely forgetting the world outside) until I finished it. I really enjoyed the book and would love to read more about Christian and his friends. I really hope there will be a sequel...

... It would be interesting to know who Denise had in mind, when she created Christian... just curious...

I received this from the author after winning the second one on GoodReads. I have to admit I was the tiniest bit skeptical about vampire book after the disaster of a series Twilight. But I was so glad that I was pleasantly surprised. This book had an interesting plot and amazing character. The imagery was pretty good. It felt like you were in New York. I have to say even I was attracted to the vampire Christian and Michel. The only downside is that the flashbacks were unannounced to the point were I was slightly confused. I plan to read the second one, Blood Tears, soon. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes vampire books.

Firstly I want to thank author Denise K Rago for supporting me as a blogger and trusting me to review her books.

Before I started reading these books I was expecting a ‘twilight’ novel. Well, HOT FRENCH VAMPIRES! Not Robert Pattinson hot but more along the lines of Taylor Launter hot. (In my mind that is!)

There are 3 main characters, 1 human and 2 vampires. Amanda, Christian and Michel.

I felt all the characters play an important part to this book, throughout the book we learn of the history and background for each character – which is detailed immensely.

Immortal Obsession is fast-paced and quite frankly a book you won’t want to put down.

A well deserved 5 stars from me.

Immortal Obsession is a gem among the paranormal/vampire romance novels I’ve read. Its sophisticated language weaves a beautiful story filled with deep and intriguing characters while understanding the back story of our main character, Christian Du Mauré. It also sets up the story to have secrets and mysteries while introducing just enough characters to make it an entertaining read. The pacing is really good and its a definite page-turner. I fully recommend it!

Almost feel guilty rating this since I couldn't finish it - it was that bad.
The writing was horrific, just gnarly to read. Complete contradictions between one sentence and the next.
Niether the plot nor the characters ever caught my interest - don't care to know more about them or the why or what comes next. What is the opposite of a book you can't put down? Immortal Obsession.
I really did not understand all the positive reviews...

Denise K. Rago's "Immortal Obsession" and "Blood Tears" are the first two tales in a series. I like the universe of characters. Definitely an ensemble cast of characters! I don't want to post spoilers, but let me just say there are plenty of twists and turns. I could see this as a TV show, similar to True Blood. To me the sexy scenes are more of a "closed door" approach. I will definitely see what else this author has to offer.

An interesting take on a vamp story. Really enjoyable read, compelling world.

The story is complex and intriguing, and develops with a good pace.

I enjoyed this story, especially the intense way the author fleshed out her main characters. Christian and Amanda fill the pages with thought-provoking determination to see us to a surprise conclusion. A great read!
