Re Hijacked Honeymoon - Eleanor Rees makes a quiet HP farewell with this one.

The h is engaged to her cousin with the wedding on for the next day when the book opens. She isn't wildly excited, but then due to the h's aunt being a real pushy snobbish bovine sewer gulper, I don't see how anyone would be.

The aunt has never let the h forget that her mum was a bit of a rover back in the day, the h's mum was all about following her passion and it led her to her doom.

The h was raised by the snob pustule aunt and her grandfather. There is also another another semi-related cousin whom the h used to be wildly passionate about, but the h has been taught to repress any type of feeling or spontaneity, so she pretends she doesn't know him.

As an added pot boiler, the grandfather's will specifies that whichever of the two young men marries and starts producing babies first gets the whole of the family firm.

The h and H meet up in the woods at night a day or so before the wedding starts. The h is wandering back from her hen party and moping about the wedding - she is srlsy not enthused and should actually be calling it off, but this is HPlandia and the h is a jelly blobule.

So when the H, who is the black sheep cousin who is in competition for the grandfather's inheritance, meets the h in the woods and in the dark, a big lurve club event occurs.

In the aftermath the h goes to her BFF's house. The BFF thinks the h has been attacked, but the h insists she wasn't and she has also lost the family heirloom engagement ring.

(Little does the h know that her BFF and her fiance are really in love. But the Snob Pustule Aunt refuses to have her son marry a housekeeper's daughter, so right at the moment their love is doomed.)

The h believes she has to go through with the wedding, even tho she was wild in the woods just the night before. So we all get to the altar and things are going along, when the H storms into the chapel and breaks up the wedding ceremony.

The h runs off, the groom runs to his real love, the h's BFF, and the aunt has conniptions. It was rather funny.

So the h takes herself off on her Bali honeymoon alone and the H shows up and pretends to be her husband. There is H chasing h antics, lots of roofie kisses and huge declarations of love, h rejection of the H and then the h getting jealous cause the H is chasing after some Balinese ladies. The h is also pregnant, but hasn't told anyone.

The h believes the H is only wanting her because of the terms of the grandfather's will. It seems the H got married once before, when the will first became known, right after the h dumped him the first time.

But it ended in divorce after the lady the H married had a little breakdown cause she married the H on the rebound and she demanded a divorce on her way to alcoholism after she miscarried her former flame's baby, (who was not the H).

Now the H claims he has always loved the h, irregardless of wills and family companies, but the h thinks he might need money to expand his current business.

Finally after a lot of back and forth and the long flight back from Bali, the H cues the h in on her BFF and former fiance's big romance and the H also explains that he got a loan a long time ago to expand his own business and he totally doesn't care about the family firm.

The h, who really doesn't want to be a single mum, decides she loves the H again and believes he loves her back for a pretty quiet but sorta believable HP HEA that is ER's farewell to her short stint in HPlandia.

Oh, what a temper the hero has!

The heroine meets the man from her past on the eve of her wedding. She hasn't seen him in 7 years and yet it takes only one glance. Still the heroine is determined to go on with the wedding and the hero storms into the church.
The wedding is off and the heroine flees her hometown. She decides to take advantage of the pre-paid honeymoon suite in Bali. The hero follows her there.

Why oh why are there so many annoying heroines in HP novels?

I’m only at the first part of the book. Not even at page 50.

And so far we have a heroine here who is about to get married to her cousin in 1,5 days, but she cheats on him with the H whom she hasn’t seen in years. She was a virgin until that happened.

And after that, she wants her best friend (who is also a friend of the groom-to-be) to go find her engagement ring which she lost in the woods when she was doing the wild thing with the H there.

And if that isn’t enough, she asks that mutual friend to lie for her to the groom-to-be that the ring was always with her.

When that friend protests because she doesn’t want to lie to the groom, the h then lies to the friend that she will tell the groom about her cheating after the wedding ceremony.

After that the h lies to the H that she was drunk when they had sex.

I mean: WTF?!

If I manage to get through the book, I’ll come with an update.

Update: I DNF’ed.
