Introduction to International Development: Approaches, Actors, and Issues

Rate this book
Introduction to International Development is a topical and theoretical introduction to development studies. This book is unique in its multidisciplinary approach given that most textbooks in the area are anchored primarily in one specific discipline-such as political science or economics-and
fail to incorporate theories and viewpoints from other disciplines. Drawing contributors from a variety of disciplines-all three editors themselves come from different disciplinary backgrounds-this text ensures that students are exposed to a well-rounded view of development issues. In addition to
being interdisciplinary, the book is international in scope - contributors from North America, the UK, Europe and the developing world expose students to diverse international perspectives. The book is divided into three an overview of the history and key theories, a presentation of the
key actors, and an exploration of contemporary issues in international development. Combining theoretical, practical, and multidisciplinary approaches to respond to the particular needs of undergraduate international development programs, Introduction to International Development is truly the ideal
text for any international development studies course!

Ah this book was a sweet treat for me when I started studying in Development Studies. All the chapters touch so many dimensions of development that you will more or less achieve an overall idea about what development really is. I still remember how furious I was to learn about the colonial experience in my subcontinent haha. A Must Read ❣️

Such a complete textbook.
Very dense on many subjects, this gives a GLOBAL perspective, which is key.
The glossary at the end is also extremely helpful to keep up with concepts and important information to retain throughout.
Tip: keep track of all the abbreviations, THERE ARE MANY to remember and it does get overwhelming.

I had to read this for my degree in Development and it was a perfect way to start my first year. This textbook has all the basic information you would need to learn about key development issues as well as see new sources of information if you want to expand on certain topics!
