Author Susan Page Davis "(Frasier Island)" takes readers on an adventure across the United States in this exciting contemporary suspense novel.
Marie Belanger, a naval lieutenant's wife, unexpectedly finds a computer flash drive in her carry-on luggage at the airport. Moments later the woman she had been sitting with on the plane from Tokyo is murdered. Suddenly her journey from San Francisco to her home in Maine becomes a nightmare as Marie is forced to run for her life. Her husband, Lt. Pierre Belanger, contacts his best friend, George Hudson, and together they set out on a search for Marie that spans the country. As hard as they try, they seem to stay one step behind their enemies, who are just one step behind Marie.
Readers will find "Finding Marie" to be an engrossing novel of faith, honor, and courage set against a background of deceit and betrayal.
FROM AUTHOR'S WEBSITE: I'm a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.
My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim's family have even moved to Maine!
Our children are all home-schooled. When Jim retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, we moved from Maine to Kentucky.
I've always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books. Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I'm proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim's and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.
For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman's World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.
After reading the first book in the series, I adored Pierre. So a book about Pierre and his wife? Sign me up! I instantly loved Marie. She's such a realistic character and I found myself relating to her a lot. Pierre, of course, was fabulous. He's just so sweet, and protective, and caring, and he's French! What's not to like? I also loved hearing more from George. Him and Pierre are a dynamic duo. I also liked Andre and Lisa's storyline. I almost wished they had their own book.
The plot was fast paced, and kept you hopping, for the most part. There were a few parts were things seemed to get a little redundant, but for the most part it kept my interest. Lots of unexpected twists and turns!
All in all, I really enjoyed this!
CONTENT NOTE: Recommended for ages 16+ for mature themes.
While a very good suspenseful story, it seemed to drag on a bit at times. Sometimes not so much back and forth is needed in a story. I think this author likes to “set up” two couples in each story. Not needed for me. Still love the faith aspect. Wish she would have done more with resolution for a couple of the side characters, like the female truck driver and the minister and his wife.
Think The Bourne Identity meets Blink by Ted Dekker and you'll get the same kind of riveting suspense. But in Finding Marie the pursuers are not the USA, nor Arabs from the Middle East, but communists from China. This tale of international intrigue had me on the edge of my seat. Marie's pursuers never gave her a rest. She had to outrun them and in the process had many close calls.
At one point more criminals join the chase and she has people coming at her from all sides. The violence picks up and Marie is terrified, but crafty as she is, she manages to evade them. I enjoyed this story and love the author's pacing and writing style. There is even an engaging romantic subplot among secondary characters that keeps the story moving along.
Much like in Frasier Island, the previous novel by the same author, Finding Marie is non-stop action. If you love heart pounding suspense, you'll want to read this book.
A fantastic tale of Romantic Suspense -- this tale (#2 in the Frasier Island series) begins when Marie Belanger leaves Japan (with other military dependents) for home in Waterville, ME. The first part of her trip takes her to San Francisco, where she witnesses the murder of Jenna Tarrington, wife of Commander Tarrington (one of Pierre's bosses).
Suddenly, Marie's journey from San Francisco to her home in Maine becomes a nightmare as Marie is forced to run for her life. Meanwhile, her husband, Lt. Pierre Belanger, contacts his best friend, George Hudson, and together they set out on a search for Marie that spans the country (including some time in the greater Akron area). As hard as they try, they always seem to be one step behind their enemies who are also one step behind Marie.
Marie unknowingly receives contraband that could get her killed. She is chased by evil and savage men--actually two groups of them, equally evil, and when one of the gangs captures her, both she & Pierre despair for her life. She's a clever girl, though. You will hold your breath as you find out just how resourceful she is. Susan Page Davis is one of my favorite authors!
"Finding Marie" is the sequel to "Fraser Island," and while one would not need to read "Fraser Island" in order to follow the action in "Finding Marie," I recommend it, just to acquaint oneself with the characters. I felt that "Finding Marie" was written more realistically than "Fraser Island." It was an enjoyable read.
I liked this book, but maybe not quite as much as Michelle did. It's full of suspense and adventure, but the little practical voice in the back of my head kept telling the main character to just head to the nearest police station. She didn't listen to me, of course, so you'll have to read it to find out all of the tight situations she gets herself into.
I loved this book! It was fast paced and kept me glued until the very satisfying conclusion. I liked how Marie and Pierre, as fairly new Christians, continually looked to God for help during the whole ordeal. This was the second book in the series. I'll be reading the other books in the series... Frasier Island and Inside Story!
This is Ms. Davis' second book, and it is just a good as her first! I read this one is just over 24 hours because I just couldn't put it down. If you like John Grisham or other action/adventure stories, this is a great one with a Christian message to boot!
Sequel to Frasier Island. Enjoyed it but not as much as the first book. An action story about a Navy wife, headed home from Japan, who unknowingly has a flash drive with top secret info dropped into her bag.
This really is a great book too. I like it just as well as the 1st one in the series. She's christian but not too preachy and doesn't drone on with useless information. I'm looking for more of her books.
I really liked reading Pierre and Marie's story since I had come to like Pierre from the first book in the series. I did not care for the secondary storyline of Lisa and Andre because I felt that they detracted from the flow of Marie's story.
Another installment in the Frasier Island series, this time about Pierre and his wife Marie, who are caught up in a big tangle of international espionage. I kept turning pages, but I was a little frustrated with the main character's naiveté.
WHOA! Espionage and gripping suspense with dash of romance. I was pulled into the story from the beginning. I loved the strong faith element that is woven into the story. I highly recommend this book.
Rating 4.5. This was a great story that really kept me reading from beginning to end. I enjoyed reading about the same characters from book 1 and I am looking forward to reading more about them in book 3.
The first book took me awhile to get involved but this second one sucked me right in. Loved the story, the fast pace, the characters. Highly recommend this book.
