Over 30 fabulous birdhouses and feeders: a log cabin, a country cottage, a '50s diner, a San Francisco row house, and many others. Full-color photos, detailed patterns, grids, and instructions, plus charts on hole size, perch height, and feeding--and tips on attracting and protecting preferred species. "Some of these projects look so good, you hardly want to put them outside. None of them are difficult to build."--Booklist.
This was a fun book to look through for birdhouse inspiration but since it was published way back in 1991, I think some of the information is outdated. The projects range for very woodsy and natural to modern and even kitschy. Most of the finished pieces look very well crafted. Lots of color photographs and clear diagrams for building.
As the title implies, this book presents a number of designs for constructing homemade bird houses. I'm an amateur hobbyist photographer, I enjoy practicing wildlife photography, I intend to construct a handful of homemade bird houses specifically because I hope to have several different species of birds living in close proximity to me so that I'll be able to photograph them. You don't need to possess any advanced carpentry skills or have prior experience assembling homemade crafts projects to enjoy this book; the instructions for assembling homemade bird houses that Bruce Woods and David Schoonmaker present are simple enough that everyone can easily assemble these homemade bird houses. If you enjoy assembling homemade crafts projects, and if you enjoy viewing different species of birds, you will enjoy this book.
