I am beginning to think that Raymond Roussel may be the most important writer in Literature - and yet, try to find one of his books! The U.K. is the best spot to locate his novels like "Impressions of Africa," but other wise he is merely an eccentric legend. But what a mind he had and what a world he lived in. This is great art from a man who cut himself off the world as much as possible, yet he transformed his surroundings into something special, strange and really great. Good collection of essays on the man and his work.

Sorry .... I actually read Francoise Caradec's biography. Atlas Arkhive 8. Truly exhaustive and essential reading. His discipline in the degree of focus (or detachment) required to avoid that which others had seen or done is stunning. Is his work the only true fiction?

If you only need/want one book on Roussel I'd go with this one, but then again you probably should buy all his books and make a special shelf for them next to your bed.
