I Can Resist Everything Except Temptation

I love scandals about other people, but scandals about myself don't interest me. They have not got the charm of novelty, one of Oscar Wilde's characters says. Another remarks, I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train. Before Wilde himself was brought down in one of the most sensational scandals of his time, he was sought after for his flamboyant personality, his scintillating conversation and his sophisticated wit.

I found a selected translation of mine from this book. It was in 2001, a time when I scanned through bookshelves in the basement of a university library, on all books related to Oscar Wilde.

Reading books by shelves was said to be the only right way of consuming books, said Yu Da Fu. I vaguely remember there were 12 books in the "complete works of Oscar Wilde". It's been 20 years, so I barely remember anything from them, except for the few pieces that'd stay in my memory for ever.
