A Small Battle in a Big War

When you talk about the Indian Wars of the West you always hear of Custer and the Little Bighorn. There were other battles fought against the Sioux and the Cheyenne on the plains. The trouble is you just don't hear about them. The Wagon Box Fight is one not heard of very much. This book is a good telling of that story. Fort Philip Kearney is remembered for the Fetterman Massacre, it also the site of a victory against the Sioux, The Wagon Box Fight. In telling this story the author, Jerry Keenan, does a good job of giving the events of the fight and provides eyewitness account of the fight. What happened was outnumbered soldiers managed to hold off a repeat of the Fetterman Massacre. My own problem with this book was the quality of some of the photos in it. It was hard to make out what you were looking at and for me it took away from what I was.reading not having a good quality photos. In closing I will say that this book will go into my Kindle library.

This must be the definitive book of the Wagon Box Fight. Jerry Keenan provides much details of the fight itself, the build-up, and the aftermath. You almost feel yourself part of the battlefield. It’s a big achievement to provide so much pages on just one battle, which took place 150 years ago this year. Absolutely recommended!
