Elisha Stockwell, Jr. lied about his age(he was 15) to join Company I, Fourteenth Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment. Seeing action at Shiloh, Iuka, Cornith, Vicksburg, and Kennesaw Mountain - 60 years later he writes of this time with clarity recalling the horror of war as well as the ludicrousness letting the reader get a small idea of what this time period was like for the soldier.
