The Small Business Millionaire

Rate this book
This riveting story about heartbreak and prosperity holds plenty of drama and suspense. Frank Mills and his daughter Jennifer are deeply in debt and struggling to make ends meet when a robbery occurs at their little restaurant in the sleepy town of Royal Oak, Michigan. Fortunately a bright young millionaire named Jonathan Berkley is available to advise them. Jonathan shows them time and again that he is a powerful coach who knows how to empower people in business and give them the faith and strength they need to make it on their own. Frank and Jennifer's restaurant goes from being the cause of suicidal depression to a surprising success, using some of the same secrets revealed in Chandler and Beckford's bestselling non-fiction book: 9 Lies That Are Holding Your Business Back. Chandler and Beckford draw on their experience in business consulting and the arts to craft an entertaining, enlightening, and informative business-related novel. Readers will gain insights and discover simple truths about how to be successful in business, and in all areas of life.

Sorry Steve Chandler, this book just did not get there for me. I read one of Chandler's other books, 100 Ways to Accumulate Wealth, and thought it was actually pretty good so I decided to try this one. I did not look it up before I bought it and I thought it would be a similar type of book with good business advice. It is actually a fictional novel with some tidbits of business advice poorly interspersed. I think that Steve Chandler and Sam Beckford know what they are talking about when it comes to business but they really don't know much about writing fiction. I felt that this book did not attain either of its two goals. First, it was not an interesting or entertaining fictional story; second, it really did not impart much business advice, and the advice it did offer was so diluted in the story that you had to slog through 50 pages before you got to anything. If you want business advice from these guys, read one of their other books; if you want a good story, find an actual fiction writer.

This is one of those "Someone's struggling, guru shows up, shows them how to not struggle" books. It's kind of "part 2" to the E-myth. I enjoyed the story, and I especially enjoyed some of the pictures created that give some different ideas for looking at your business. I recommend this to every entrepreneur. You'll refer back to it several times over the course of your business, and the lessons learned are not the same lessons I've seen rehashed a million times. A quick and worthy read.

A corner stone of success in business is creating a wonderful customer experience. With this as the center piece of purpose and intention, along with a sound plan to position one's self and services/products/abilities - prosperity follows.
