And this is why manuals and textbooks are so very limited.

There is useful information in this little book, there really is. There is also severely pointless information because it is worded so obtusely that I have no idea what they want me to do. Take the natural aiming area aka the NAA. They give you an exercise to do. They describe it. I still have no idea what it is that they want me to do. I will have to youtube it later, sometimes the written word does not convey as easily as a video does.

It was interesting to read the little tidbit about the history of the NRA in the back, that was probably the most interesting part of the book. I didn't realize that it had started right after the civil war. The guy who was the first head and the guy who started it have both appeared in the civil war history books that I have been reading lately, woohoo for connections.

Anyway, yeah, it's a manual. Not all that thrilling. Useful info. Boring presentation. The end.

I know, I know...the NRA. Charleton Heston, flag-waving gun nuts, eagle ratatouille.
But if I must be affected with a fascination/repulsion for mechanical things, deadly ones included, at least I can do it with knowledge, skill, and a solid ethic, no? And, once I learn, I can pass my knowledge on to my kind of people.
Plus, now I can shoot a 3-inch group with a .357 mag at 21 feet. And better yet, the women/trans self defense folks I took to the range the other day could, too.

This book, for all its rigidity and flatness of tone and awful photos (think business casual, plus earmuffs), is just waiting to be spread far, far beyond its intended audience. Wanna come out to the range and make the mustachioed dudes uncomfortable?

A nice comprehensive over view of pistols. Easy to read, great pictures, but a little dry. Topics include safe pistol handling and storage options, ammunition, the pistol mechanisms and operations for both a revolver and semi-automatic pistol, and shooting skills. A must have for beginning shooters and people who want to learn more about how pistols work.

I suppose it's good to remember that the NRA actually served a purpose before its activist division hijacked the organization.

A nice comprehensive over view of pistols. Easy to read, great pictures, but a little dry...no, a lot dry--it's a manual. It's a pretty good primer on pistol shooting and not for entertainment. Contains good information and is usually required for handgun safety courses.
