During a visit to the Huntington Library in Southern California, I happened to experience one of John Constable’s magnificent and monumental six-foot landscape paintings, “View on the Stour near Dedham.” Inspired, I found this Phaedon book, which contains 48 color plates and another 52 black and white figures, including several “six-footers,” though the Huntington’s is excluded. The text is informative, and while the plate sizes are roughly full page and the reproduction quality is good, I think Constable deserves a larger coffee table book that includes all his six footers.

Interesting and informative. I especially liked the paintings Constable did from Hampstead Heath when he lived there. Always good to see the views of the area before the urban sprawl.
