A bit of a confused mess from a usually reliable author. Too many subplots, too many characters, and a romance that is dead on arrival.

Nina Monroe, a worker at a duck decoy factory, is reported messing. Sheriff Mitch Tanner searches her bungalow and finds a specially made spoon that belonged to a baby that was kidnapped 27 years ago and never found. That baby was the daughter of Wade Dennison. He owns the duck decoy factory and seems especially upset by Nina's disappearance.

Charity Jenkins owns the local paper. She has been receiving anonymous gifts and has noticed a black pick-up following her around. She was going to do a story on Nina (for some reason), and was expecting to receive a letter from Nina that would be good for her story. After she's attacked leaving the post office, she suspects it could be to do with that letter.

The story consists of Mitch figuring out who had a motive to want Nina, while Charity follows him around, sure she's onto a good story. Apparently they once had a relationship? I'm really not sure! That should be clearer in a romance, of all things! But Charity won't accept anything from Mitch other than marriage, while he's poisoned against marriage because of his parents' relationship, which saw his mother abandon the family when he was a child.

The character of Jesse Tanner, Mitch's brother, was just terrible! He's apparently the hero in the third book (because, yes, this is a mini-series), but based on his character and the phoned-in nature of this book, I won't be looking out for it.

By the end, the reasons behind who did what and why are clunky and confusing. Of course, because this is the first book of a mini-series, the plot that has pretty much been driving the book - what happened to Angela - is never resolved.

Don't pick this up if you're after a good mystery. It's all over the place, as are the multitude of characters and their motivations. Definitely don't pick it up if you're after romance! A couple of kisses and no declarations of love. Not as awful as more than a few Intrigues out there, which is about the only thing that saves it from 1 star.

Oy. I had such high hopes on this one. We started right off with a bigfoot sighting after all! We also had the unique approach of having a couple which have been off again and on again for years. He's a sheriff, she's runs a newspaper and is looking for that big story.

The premise seems simple enough. Missing woman, turns up dead. But it gets twisty. The victim isn't who you think, and there's a lot of daughters floating around. Honestly? I got confused for a bit and never really cared enough about any of them to do more than quick read of the rest.

The best parts? I like the interaction between our couple, the constant presence of mystic pie, and an aunt who seems very good at seeing the future. So the story was fun enough. It just wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped it would be.

Mitch is the local sheriff and Charity the nosy small town journalist. They have the hots for each other and are obsessed with each other - so much that everything Charity eats reminds her off mich. Brocolloci reminds her of a frowning mitch, nice pies makes her fantasise about Mitch in tuxedo walking down the isle with her. But Mitch is afraid to marry, damaged with his parents failed marriage. He's also afraid to mix genes with Charity, and she is afraid too, because her family's hippy background.

On top of that, there's a secret admirer that leaves presents for her, once breaking into her car. And when it's all revealed who it was, nobody cared how stalkerish and creepy and idiotic such behaviour are, but the book washes it away as mischevious and daredevil.

Well, the romance side, as most usual, made me roll my eyes and disgusted, especially with all the obsession and stalkerism that seemed all so normal.

The suspense mystery side of it was okay. A normal easy read, nothing fancy, but entertaining and quick. There's spins and clues and unknown identities. All okay, and it was interesting enough to have me read it fast enough to find out what happened.

Angelia was kidnapped as an infant 27 years age. Nina, age 27, shows up in Timber Falls, OR and a lot of people don't like her. She is not a nice person, a lot of people say. Someone has reason to really not like her, in fact, she gets herself murdered. Her connection to Angelia, who knows? Does Nina know who the kidnapped the baby, maybe. What does she want - money, of course.

Charity has loved Mitch from the time she was 5 years old. Mitch looks at Charity and sees her wacky, hippie relatives and his own drunk dad and runaway mother. He had decided that their genes will not mix well and besides that, he doesn't want to become his father. But, nothing can stop that age old pull of true love. Charity is the owner of the small town newspaper and Mitch is the sheriff. They come into conflict over the disappearance of Nina and tracking down what is really happening.

Good plot and I loved Charity and Mitch. The truth and complete resolution of the mystery doesn't happen. Maybe in the 2nd book of the series, or maybe the whole truth will never be known.

She saw him wearing a tux and then...

There are so many delightful scenes in this book. Some make you smile. A couple made me laugh out loud. But it's not like there isn't a bad guy who's trying to hurt Charity By the way, Charity and Mitch are like two magnets that can't help being attracted to each other. That girl is something else. Well 27, she's hardly a girl but She is something else.

There is a kidnapping, a stalker, a liar— well several liars... And a lot of people who like to talk even when they don't know nothin'.

You might guess who the bad person is. I didn't try. I . I was enjoying the story too much. And I hope you do the same..

This is the start of B.J. Daniels series books. Mountain Sheriff was suspenseful, and once I got into it I didn't want to put the book down. This is what I love about B.J. Daniels books, is how the story pulls you into the characters. So you don't put the book down till you know who the killer is. I'm glad i'm starting her series at the very beginning. I have already read a series that are more recent books, but I decided this year I wanted to start at the beginning of her writing series books. This one I just finished is great. I'm looking forward to reading all of the books she has written.

This was a pleasure to read. Charity compared the good moments of her life to Banana cream pie, and the bad situations to broccoli and cheese. Charity was a newspaper reporter and in love with the town sheriff. She was holding out for marriage. She wanted it all or nothing. She was also independent, and thought outside the box. Mitch was scared of marriage. When Charity became a target, and he came close to losing her, he found out he was more afraid of losing her. Good story. I loved the ending.

MOUNTAIN SHERIFF by B.J. Daniels, Cascades Concealed Book 1

Woo-wee! It is like riding a wild bronc for 8 seconds! Great plot with twists and turns that keep Sheriff Mitch Tanner hopping as he investigate a murder in his small town, but his biggest headache is Charity Jenkins who has a knack for getting into trouble with a killer nipping at her heels. I find myself being pulled deeper into Daniels’ MOUNTAIN SHERIFF and couldn’t put it down until I reach that last page.

Sweet romance with a couple of murders tossed in. Baby is kidnapped 27 years ago…Flash forward 27 years and a young woman comes to town. She manages to get a job at the decoy factory - with no references, no real ID and it’s not an easy to get job. Is she the missing baby? Romance between the sheriff and reporter. Basically on and off all their lives, she’s holding out for the ring. Add in some family drama, and it’s a small town romance lol

Not nearly as good as the other books ( many) I've read by this author.

I've read several books written by this author and I absolutely loved every single one of them but this one was boring.

I picked this up as part of a 2-in-1 book with a Linda Lael Miller story. I read a few chapters, but I wasn't really sure where the story was going, and looking at reviews didn't help ... it seems like this is like a romantic-thriller and that's not my cup of tea.

Mediocre romantic thriller. Ends up a bit tedious as it fails to really deliver on the thriller or romance front!

BJ Daniels does it again. I enjoyed the main characters, Mitch Tanner the Sheriff and reporter and newspaper owner Charity. The relationship between them was funny and kept your attention, as you couldn't wait to see the two of them wind up together. Loved the way Charity drove Mitch crazy (in more ways than one).

This one did not have any overt sexual scenes if you are not into that. It was more of a sweet romance, and not all of her books are like that. I would rate this one as "PG" for the romance.

The Sheriff Mitch Tanner has his plate full between Bigfoot sightings, the rain and murder on top of everything else, when Charity Jenkins is threatened by an unknown assailant. Sheriff Mitch Tanner is in love with Charity but unwilling to commit to marriage. That complicates matters as he tries to find the killer and protect Charity too. This is a well written tale that kept me wanting to turn the pages, an excellent read for me.

This was mostly a mystery/suspense. Most of the romance was either innuendo or imagined. The complete mystery was never solved and the romance was just starting as the book ended, so the story felt incomplete.

I'm a huge B.J Daniels fan. Love her writing and stories. I was very let down with this one and it has made me wonder if I can finish the series. Not everyone will be like me I'm sure but the story and characters just didn't mix well for me. Very disappointed
