Going a step beyond Bible stories, this fun devotional book challenges children ages five to eight to stop and think about the meaning of each account. More than five dozen devotions are drawn from the breadth of Scripture-from the Creation to Revelation-and are brightly illustrated, in full color, for young readers' pleasure. Bible Devotions for Bedtime is perfect for parents wanting to spend spiritual "quality time" with their kids! It's an ideal follow up to Barbour's Bible Stories for Bedtime.
"Bible Devotions for Bedtime" written by Daniel Partner and illustrated by Richard Holt is a quality bible devotion that we have enjoyed very much. As we commemorate Good Friday, the devotion in here featured the criminals on Jesus' left and right hand side. One of the criminals scorned at Jesus. The other put his trust in Jesus and Jesus said he would be with Him in paradise. Indeed it is never too late to put our trust in Him, even if it's the final moments before death. That is the good news of the cross of Christ. His death happened, his blood was shed, that we might be forgiven of our sins. All of us who believe in Him will be in paradise after we die.
We received this quality devotional before our baby was born. We have since read it as a family three times. The devotions do not have didactic language that preaches a moral tale, but it simply says what Jesus and the band of characters have done in the Bible, from the OT to NT. Each devotion ends with one simple question and a prayer for children to say by themselves. Always encouraging, and something to remind us about the power of God. We look forward to the time when our child will be able to read this independently and be praying these words by himself. Originally written for ages 5 to 8. It's never to early to readaloud!
I agree with what has been said before that the binding of the book is very poor and at the beginning every page fell out as I read and turned it. (The whole block of pages 1-84 just came off one by one.) The content of the devotions was good and suitable for my 3-year-old. In chronological sequence from Genesis to Revelation, but a somewhat random selection, missing out important parts.
The devotions are clear and easily understood for my daughters (ages 6 and 8), but the quality of the book itself is very low. The binding did not last. each page I read fell out as I turned it.
