Eye opening book about Mansfield, Ohio. I knew many of the characters mentioned in the book. I worked at Allprints Photo and remember the men working in the darkroom being summoned into the supervisors office to watch pornographic movies with the blinds drawn. Knew a young man who was put into jail for growing pot and ended up hanging himself in his cell. Lots of shady stuff. It was a strange time for the city, which has tried, and is still trying to get its groove back. If you’re a boomer who was raised in Mansfield, read the book. It will bring back many memories and maybe explain a few.
A fantastic take that sadly leaves more questions than it answers. Accurately describes the sad nature of Mansfield; tells a story of a man defeated by it. Would be five stars but the writing is confusing, there are tons of typos, and two of the pages were in the wrong order. Worth reading if you live in or are from Mansfield. A really good look at small town American criminal “justice”
Gripping and sometimes shocking account of corruption in Mansfield, Ohio. Very good, though I felt some of the charges were trumped up with less than reliable testimony, or, at times, much was made out of what is mostly par for the course. Still, important work.
