Discovering an unconscious woman in a snowdrift, rancher Maddox Thunder Horse vowed to save her life. How she had wound up in a remote area of the Badlands was a mystery, but the fear in the icebound beauty's eyes revealed that it had not been by choice. The woman who called herself Kat roused protective instincts the Lakota native had thought long-dead....
Grateful for her rescue, Katya Ivanov didn't want to pull Maddox into her nightmare. Someone wanted her dead, so the less he knew about her and her situation, the better. Still, the growing attraction between them couldn't be denied - and neither could the killer who lurked in wait. But with a warrior by her side, she just might have a shot at the life - and love - she'd always wanted....
Award-winning author Elle James grew up as an air force military brat. She received her work ethic from her rock-solid father, her creative streak from her artistic mother and inspiration from her writing partner and sister, Delilah Devlin. As a former member of the army reserves and a current member of the air force reserves, she's traveled across the United States and to Germany, managed a full-time job, and raised three wonderful children. She and her husband have even tried their hands at ranching exotic birds (ostriches, emus and rheas) in the Texas hill country. Ask her, and she'll tell you what it's like to go toe-to-toe with an angry three-hundred-and-fifty-pound bird and live to tell about it!
Her adventures in the army and air force reserves, and the wild antics of her life on a small ranch in Texas give her fodder for mystery, suspense and humor in her writing. Elle writes gothic, paranormal mystery for the Harlequin Intrigue line and paranormal romantic comedy for Dorchester Publishing. A former manager of computer programming and project management professionals, Elle is happy she now has the opportunity to pursue her writing full time.
I really like Kat, she does everything she can to avoid pulling Maddox into the danger that is chasing her down. Her life is spiralling out of control but she still puts others before herself every time, however, in doing so she causes more suspicion and questions. I loved seeing Maddox brought to his knees by his attraction to Kat, he sends himself round in circles questioning if he can trust her, his attraction, law enforcement and their motives....his changing moods could give you whiplash if he wasn't so entertaining. A great start to the Thunder Horse series, I look forward to the other brothers books.
What a great story! It has a little bit of mystery, some romance and action with a lovable family in the Thunder Horses and a lovable heroine in Alexi Katya Ivanov. Elle James wrote a wonderful story that takes place in the Badlands of South Dakota with a smidgen in Minnesota. I got so wrapped up in the story that I had to finish it and read all 165 remaning pages last night until the wee hours. Thanks for providing a so much reading pleasure Ms. James.
Katya is on the run for her life. Alone and in a foreign country, the Princess of Trejikistan races for her life across the snowy Bsdlands. Saved from death by Maddox Thunder Horse, she struggles against her feelings for him, her fight for freedom in her home country, and for her own life.

When rancher Maddox Thunder Horse finds an unconscious woman in a snowdrift he vows to do everything he can to save her life. When he gets her to a safe place and asks her how she managed to get lost out in a blizzard he finds her story to be missing something. The mystery becomes even more unreal when she is kidnapped and almost killed.
Katya Ivanov is grateful when Maddox rescues her. But in order to protect him and his family from the danger surrounding her she feels she needs to get away from them. Maddox has other plans and will not allow her to run off on her own. He says it's only to protect his family from any danger and to keep an eye on her. But the attraction between them becomes unavoidable
This is a gripping read, but it’s more sexually explicit than u like, so I’m giving it a 3.
It’s the story of Kat, a college student in Minnesota but actually a princess from a country formerly part of Russia, who is framed as a terrorist. She escapes from an assassin, going across North Dakota in a snow mobile, and after an accident is discovered in a snow drift by Maddox Thunder Horse, and the story continues from there.
Maddox and Karta are such strong characters craving threw the suspense of finding out what's happening. You can't help but be afraid of the dangers. Some James pull you right into the depth if the journey can't wait to read more
Enjoyed the dynamic between the two lead characters! Kat had people after her, wasn’t sure who she could trust & heres was this handsome guy, Maddox, who’s willing to do whatever he can to help her!
Mrs. James wrote the story of the first Thunder-horse Boys that goes to great lengths to save the women that come into their lives, at times refusing to admit that they need these woman.
Kat, because she has to, finally reveals everything to Maddox, allowing Maddox to help Kat in her situation while helping her realize that it’s ok to let her walls down and accept some help along with a few kisses!
A good suspense story with strong characters. Katya is running for her life. She thinks her time has run out when she is rescued by Maddox. She can't tell anyone who she really is or why she is running as it could put them in jeopardy. Maddox knows the beautiful woman he rescued is lying to him, but his heart has thawed after being frozen for a couple years. When his fiancée died, he thought he would be alone for the rest of his life. Then this woman comes crashing into his life and changes everything. Can he believe anything she says? Can he help her out of the mess she is in? Will she stay?
This is a great book. I truly enjoyed it. While the ending seemed to fit very well, I couldn't help but wish the book weren't ending there. I would love to hear more of Katya and Maddox's story. There were a couple of things that bothered me in the sex scenes, though. First off, they never even discuss using a condom (or other form of contraception), much less actually doing it. Second, the sex always ended with Maddox's completion, but there was never a mention of hers. I felt like I was left hanging, wondering if she came as well. (Thankfully, the are a couple of times that he pleasures her, during which she does reach her own peak.) Outside of that, however, the story was engaging and interesting. I very much enjoyed the agency that Katya displayed, particularly near the end. I would like to read more of the Thunder Horse series.
