Uncle Mugsy is a confirmed bachelor — bachelor bulldog that is — who lives in his comfortable mansion without a care in the world. His only companion is his faithful butler, Peeves, who sees to his every worldly need, while Mugsy romances the elegant Miss Margaret Dogmont. But Mugsy’s perfectly singular existence is put in double jeopardy when his adorable niece and nephew arrive for an unexpected Christmas visit!

Wifeless, childless Mugsy has freedom with no responsibilities Ever doing as you've wanted, Never doing as you should, - And wouldn't change it if you could! learns that Christmas (and other days) is more joyful with people (and a wife!)
This is a beautiful book--from the bright red cloth hardcover to the detailed artwork and down to the choice of type font. Uncle Mugsy is a confirmed bachelor until his nephew and niece come to visit--and then, he is more sure than ever bachelorhood is the way to stay after spending time with the mess and commotion of the pups (they are all bulldogs, by the way). Uncle Mugsy threatened to cancel Christmas, but a little soul-searching helps him see the error of his ways.
I love bulldogs so obviously I was attracted to this book. Maybe it's that I had the pleasure of meeting the illustrator at Mayfest in Tulsa a few years ago with my dad, but I really loved this book! It's definitely a fun children's Christmas story that isn't rife with nauseating religious overtones yet still has a moral.
