Eradicating Ecocide: Exposing the Corporate and Political Practices Destroying the Planet and Proposing the Laws Needed to Eradicate Ecocide

Rate this book
Providing a comprehensive legal overview of the past 200 years, this enlightening account exposes the laws and inadequate voluntary global governance that have triggered an eco-colonization—or ecocide—of the planet. Examining laws from around the world that have been successfully developed to curtail the power of environmentally oppressing institutions, this record analyzes the impact of corporate dominance and argues that duty of care is owed to the public and the wider earth community. This investigation will interest policy makers, business leaders, activists, and lawyers alike.

This is a non emotive look at how we are damaging the planet and what legal steps we can take to halt this destructive behaviour. Higgins presents examples of laws in other countries which have succeeded in curtailing the power of governments, corporations and banks and made a quick and effective change, demonstrating that her proposal is not impossible. Eradicating Ecocide is a crash course on what laws work, what doesn’t and what else is needed to prevent the imminent disaster of global collapse.

Foundational required reading.

Sets out the basis for the most important socio-legal movement in history. RIP Polly Higgins. If we survive, the new world should bear her name.

Eye-opening advocacy book on the history of environmental crimes proposing international criminal law as the solution for the widespread lack of impunity by adding a 5th international crime in the Rome Statue: the ecocide. Late Polly Higgins has the power of turning readers into activists, inviting us to join her life-changing mission to fight against our biggest threat: environmental destruction.
