Magnificent collection of the speeches and writings of this beloved American president, social reformer, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. 352 pages.
Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., also known as T.R., and to the public (but never to friends and family) as Teddy, was the twenty-sixth President of the United States, and a leader of the Republican Party and of the Progressive Movement.
He became the youngest President in United States history at the age of 42. He served in many roles including Governor of New York, historian, naturalist, explorer, author, and soldier (posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2001 for his role at the Battle of San Juan Hill in the Spanish-American War).
Roosevelt is most famous for his personality: his energy, his vast range of interests and achievements, his model of masculinity, and his "cowboy" persona.
Lots of great speeches in here. I didn't read every single one, honestly. But his wit and wisdom, we could use that now. Actually, what we need is his sense of personal responsibility and untameable enthusiasm for the future and what we can do as a united nation. I especially loved reading the speech he gave when he had been shot just before he was to give that speech. He went off script some and it was gratifying.
Content is after all everything if you read non-fiction. This collection of communications by Teddy Roosevelt is extremely enlightening. Most people today wonder why he is on Mt. Rushmore. Read this book and you'll find out who one of the true great presidents really was.
